I think the reason I enjoy the mystery pattern videos is because I have learned so much from them. I was never taught to read a pattern, and these videos have improved my ability to do so by leaps and bounds. Also, learning to make (and feeling confident about) “executive decisions” to improve on the stability of a pattern. The fact that you show your trial and error thought process is incredibly helpful. Thank you so much for all the hard work you have put into these videos…watching them has improved my crochet skills enormously!

@@doninis1354I am a stacked single convert. For the first time ever, I am crocheting a sweater for an adult. I think Corinna’s channel has given me the confidence to do so as well as TLYarn. I’m so grateful for creators willing to share their talents and having the courage to put themselves out on the internet.

I'm from the hippie generation and 60's. It is a scarf hat or kerchief band that is supposed to be like that because crochet was a huge alternative to use instead of cloth and you just weren't "cool" if you didn't have some things that were crocheted. It marked you for the hippie style at that time. I had all styles in many fabrics. You had to be from that generation to stylize it in your wardrobe super willingly. We wore them everywhere because it was the fashion. Yeah, the 60's were a very wordy time, especially coming on the tail of the Beatnik's coffee house poetry era. Yup. Wordy... lol. You do honor to women and men of that time. Thank you.

Baxk in the 60's and early 70's, many girls had big hair, back-combed into beehive styles, so that would have been just the right size! Well done!

That's interesting. It makes a lot if sense in that context, and by that logic, modifying it for modern hairstyles is only natural. We revive retro fashions with a modern twist every new generation

Once these are washed a couple times they lay a bit less stiff, however making one with a finer yarn is usually best. Back in the sixties, we wore these things everywhere. The brighter and more colorful they were the better we liked them.

Wow! I’d love to have seen that...my grandmother made our clothes when we were little-we had hats and mittens, leggings, dresses, jumpers and even double-knitted “carriage” suits for riding in the pram! I think she was tired of knitting and crocheting by the time we were in school...Thanks for reminding me-I wish I could sit and crochet with her now that I have finally learned. She tried to teach me over the years, but I never got the hang of it until I had to slow my life down due to cancer and chemo. I made hats I donated to the cancer centre “hat box” (not the first one I made-it’s pretty bad, and I wear it😜). All best regards to you and your mum!

Deviations from original patterns are how new designs and ideas were made. You honor the spirit of these patterns by doing them at all! Do what you need to make them work for you. Keep up the good work and if people have a problem they can watch something else or do it themselves instead of giving you grief.

Couldn't have phrased it better, myself. Whether it's by the book or going rogue, we all should do what makes us happy in the end, and not waste energy trying to make everyone follow suit the exact same way. If we did that, there were be very little variety in life.

I think it's so interesting that every generation of women finds a way to use the same stitches to express themselves and make items that are beautiful and useful. Even though I don't crochet, I enjoy your vintage patterns! In the 60's, I made most of my own dresses and skirts, and always made a triangular scarf from the same fabric go with them. Always tie it with the strings under your hair in the back!

David’s wife speaking - I don’t remember crocheted bandanas but cloth ones that matched your dress or skirt The idea of using lighter weight yarn or even yarn that ppl use to make socks out of would be good. I grew up in california so maybe the yarn scarves were used in cold weather states instead of the tried and true winter that that messes up the hair?

I remember having seen many of these during my childhood. They were used primarily as a way of holding hair out of the face while working, but also to keep some of the dust from settling on the hair, as well. It was loose by design, so as to cover hair that was pulled back or up, to serve as a utilitarian accessory, a fun, creative alternative to the typical basic kerchief or scarf that was most commonly used for this same purpose. I really enjoyed the mystery! Well done! 😍🧕

I try and watch all the videos but can't always. I do love the mystery ones because it is neat to see how you interpret the patterns and tweak things to work out. It is also fun to try and guess what it is going to be as you are making it. I hope you don't stop doing your tutorials either because they are so informative. I have seen that tutorials don't get as much views because people only access it when they need it. I am constantly looking up tutorials on how to do stitches but not so much for huge projects, unless I am working on that particular project and have to keep referring back to tutorial. Thanks for all your work. You help bring humour and colour to a world on fire.

❤ LONG COMMENT: You did great! I love the "turn into a purse/bag" idea! It would make a really nice reusable market shopping bag. I'm sure the ladies in the past didn't "follow patterns to the letter" either, making their own decisions and in their own way; from color choices to how they made the stitches. Crochet is about fun and creativity and you give that in your tutorials and mystery videos. And if I may, I would like to add my vote to the tally of don't give up the tutorials either. Even if I decide not to make them, I do learn from them: your beaded 1920's purse being the perfect example! I never knew how to do beaded crochet until I watched your tutorial, so thank you very much! 😊 I would like to also add advice of making sure you take time for the things you want to make--even if you don't video them (hint hint- finish that peacock beadspread you've been wanting to finish😘) Nothing is worse than feeling burnt out on doing something you love. So ***sigh*** maybe make videos less often? There is no crochet/KZread law that says "Thou SHALT post videos every week, or every few days--OR ELSE!!!" Que dramatic ominous dun-dun-dunnnnnn. 😂 Keep up the great work. You have made so many unseen friends on this channel who are right behind supporting you! Myself as one of the major pillars holding you up. ❤❤❤❤ (BTW I am putting together a "Happy Mail" package for you. I just need to get things together, and to wait until my funds are a little less tight before I ship it. My hope is to have it you before the end of May. 🥰)

This 1960s Mystery pattern video popped up today probably because I’m a crocheter. I LOVED it! I agree with a previous commenter as you can learn so much continuously watching other crochet videos. Yeah I’m old (75) so guessed it right off. And the wig looked great as it was perfect for the longer straight hair worn back then. I’m thinking I’ll work one up in DK as my hair is quickly thinning UGH. I don’t want to wear hats so the “kerchief” would work great without looking like a biker chick. I just had to subscribe and will enjoy your video library. And you know the Mysteries come 1st!

I should watch the full video. But I just can’t wait to see it finished. I guess I will suggest keep going and turn it into a poncho. Or some kind of bag. A swing for a kitty.

I never do beginning and end of row increases in first and last stitch, but do them in the stitches next to them. Gives a lovely smooth edge. 😊

I noted something in the pattern, it says worsted 4 ply , worsted and 4 ply are two different ply yarns. If you had used 4 ply the results would have been different. Nevertheless I think our 3 granddaughters would love to wear these, so out come the ( original) colours and I’ll make a start. I absolutely love your channel, your sense of humour and your ingenuity. Please don’t change a thing. “ if it’s not broken, don’t fix it.”👋👋🇦🇺

Gosh you brought back memories!!! I had a brown corduroy one with brown/purple paisley on the reverse. I'm sure I had more but that one stands out. Would wear to go motorcycle riding, I had long, straight hair. Tuck the point in back under the ties and wear it lower on the forehead.

I love it! I’m currently working on a granny stitch shawl, it’s totally 1960’s using Walmart brand yarn called tutti fruiti, bright purple, orange yellow pinks, I will be seen from miles away🧡💛💗❤️💜

I am a child of the 60's so it looks like the 60's. It wasn't a fail it was a different time is all. Pretty colors. New subscriber. I think it will help me with reading patterns also. Thanks. I do think they could have said Sc all the way the center and then do 3 Sc and then continue to the end with Sc. lol like they do now.

You guessed the reason for the size! Back then, many women would grocery shop with rollers in their hair, and would cover them up with a scarf. Plus, most young women and girls had very long hair. Think Woodstock.

I love your mystery videos. It is always neat to see what you end up with. If you take fingering weight yarn and made it I think you would like it better.
