    To lift up your rear wheel for lubing the chain, put kickstand down. Put a piece of board (of the right length) leaning against the right end of the rear axle. Tilt the bike to the left, and the piece of board goes under the axle nut. Now your bike is standing on its front wheel, kickstand and that piece of board.

    I always keep a soft, dry cloth and a couple of luggage spanners underneath my pillion seat. Whether you need to get rid of the pesky flies on your beautiful chrome visor, you want to dry your seat after having the bike stand in the rain or the package of toilet paper you bought doesn't quite fit into your backpack, these are by far the items I use the most :3

    I used to use the kerosene trick in the 1970’s and still do. It’s a fantastic and bike-friendly cleaner and won’t leach grease out like many other products. It’s also good if you have a reservoir on your water blaster. Leaves a nice shine and acts as a release agent for road grime. Pretty effective on brake pad dust too.

    If you use the recommended gear oil to lube the chain it’s very easy to apply with an old tooth brush and you don’t need to have the wheel moving whilst applying it. Just fill the bristles of the tooth brush and it’ll be enough to do 1/4 of the chain, then just move the wheel around to do the next section. Remember your not really lubricating the chain, your only preventing corrosion to the links so no need to lather it everywhere, just a nice thin coat over the links.

    Diesel fuel works great too for cleaning chains. Pretty much same as kerosene. Also when living your chain make sure its warm. The lube penetrates much better on a warm chain vs a cold one.

  • @mikecheeze4312

    @mikecheeze4312

    4 жыл бұрын

    @Palm Coast Adventures image but your talking about cleaning vs lubing. After cleaning the chain take a 10 minute ride, warm it up and them lube it. It helps the lube to penetrate in between the o-rings and the small spaces it normally wouldn't. Yes lubing a cool chain looks like it works just fine but you can't seen anything except the outside of the parts, the inside is the most critical and is what needs the line the most. I clean, dry, ride for 10 minutes to warm up chain, put it on a rear stand then lube with bike in first gear. That allows the lube to work it's way into the hard to reach places and extends its life greatly

  • @bigt43

    @@mikecheeze4312 I haven't got a motorbike yet, but I am all for extending service life of consumable items, although not to the extent of say extend brake pads life by trying not to use them lol, but I like the thought of getting the most benefit from lubing the chain by cleaning it drying it off then getting it warm before applying lubrication. I hope I remember this tip.

    Is this video a wind up? I don't normally write comments on videos, and certainly not as long as this, but some of this needs to be questioned... Sorry for being that guy... 1. I was always told by my instructors to put helmet on by pulling the chin guard as pressure on the straps can damage the lid... I never even carry it by them... let alone load em up 2. Not sure about this... I would check the load rating of the bolts your using. If they snap you'll wish you paid for proper kit. I never use a jet wash (dont see the point and like spending time with my biies) but if you do, make sure you re-grease and never fire it closely to any bearings (wheels, yolks, etc) 3. Just no. It's gonna slip and you'll mess up your fork legs, or worse, the bolt... get the right tool... you'll use it again. Someone else may be able to confirm, but I would guess torque values would be off if using this method when doing back up? 4. Like it! 5. Nope. Scratch bike much? Helmet as a beer opener, c'mon. Also, who takes a beer from fridge to bike without opening it? Beers don't mix with bikes. 6. No. Hell no. You wanna loose fingers... cause that's how you loose fingers. No. Stoppit. 7. Forgot to get a container..? Go get one and carry on. Unless you only have 3 bolts to take off... then how about a pocket?? 8. Nice. 9. Service your bike properly. As others have said, check the chain type and sensitivity to the cleaner. Front cover tip is spot on. Sorry to be so critical, I liked the video shots and edit, but just don't agree with some of these hacks. Ride safe everyone 😁👍

    Hilarious video, had me giggling like a school girl! As a mechanic your hacks were something that I assumed everyone knew. But sadly this is not the case. Don't fully agree with your chain cleaning, but at least you said a disclaimer. So I just wanted to add a tiny bit of safety advise. Please make sure that the bolt you use is a "Hardened steel bolt" of at least Grade 8/Grade G. Not just any old bolt that will fit into the hole. This will be much safer lifting your bike and keeping it secure and safe on your swing arm stand. Because as you said, we all have a love affair with our motorcycle and I'm sure we'll do anything to protect it!

    Just fit a scottoiler to the chain. My old CBR daily went eight years with only one adjustment required. Keeps the chain clean too. The only thing I miss about my old Goldwing is that it swallowed all equipment so you didn't have to carry all your stuff about. Got the weekly shop in it too. The other 98% of the time it was a heavy PITA! And NEVER use your helmet as a basket. There's nothing to stop items from deforming the inner foam or scratching the visor. Its as bad as dropping the helmet.
