I had an experience similar to the camping story once. I had just moved into a city and still had plates from the state I used to live in on my car. I was driving around at night and somehow got lost, so I turned down this street in order to turn around. Not even a minute after I'd done so, this group of 4-5 guys surrounded my car and said "Get out of here, or we'll kill you!!" and things like that. Believe me, I didn't wait around to find out if they were serious. They even chased after my car as I sped away from the street. I think that I escaped with my life that night.

Here in France you can get your car destroyed/at least graffitied in certain parts of the country if you have a license plate from Paris. (around biarritz (south west) and corsica). It just something that happens. The husband of one of my teacher is from one of these regions, and despite living in Paris suburbs, has a license plate from were he was born. These regions have a history of wanting to be independant, and in the late 90/early 2000s things were really bad.

She described his eyes as dead and cold. He didn't hurt her too badly or himself--I think he may have pushed her against a wall and choked her? In any case, the next day it's like it never happened. Most of these people have probably never been punched in the face and have no idea how quickly they can become a statistic. Its not really surprising since no one seems to be interested in teaching our kids how the world actually functions and all the cold realities that come along with it. Removing all forms of adversity is the biggest mistake we could ever make for any growing child.

@@candycabngfl Agreed. I didn't have an easy life, had a dysfunctional family, got bullied in school... I was also best in class in various subjects, until an even younger kid came in by skipping a year. He was a true genius and he finished even before us. So, he started to study at maybe 16 and took on two subjects at once. However, school and university are quite different and for the first time in his life, he failed an exam. How did he respond? He climbed a tower and jumped! Now, I could act tough since I never tried anything the like, despite all my hardships, but my hardships pale by comparison with what my grandparents went through. I frankly fear that I wouldn't have been tough enough to survive that S-show they managed to survive (poverty and lawlessness of the interwar years, and obviously WWII and then being displaced and having to start from scratch again).

I went on the Dragon's Tail water slide at white water Atlanta which was similar to the German water slide except no rafts. I went airborne on the first drop and landed right on the 2nd one and felt like I had snapped my back in half. Caused my vision to go out in a white flash and my legs to go numb for a bit and I was really scared I had been hurt badly. Fortunately I was just bruised up from it. Makes no sense to have a ride that you can fly off of even if it's just a brief moment. Same slide had a nail or screw pop through the slide material and it damn near flayed some poor girl.

Can confirm that story from the Philippines. Happens quite frequently. Not just for cellphone thieves. Sometimes they put signs like "Adik ako wag tularan" (I'm an addict, don't be like me.) Or "Pusher ako wag tularan" (I'm a drug pusher, don't be like me). Crazy part is some or most of them aren't. They're killed by vigilantes or cops even before giving the opportunity to defend themselves. It's a short story, but it's scary cause it can happen to anyone here.

With the first story, I've always camped close to home/where I grew up here in Arkansas - though these places would probably freak you out if you weren't from around here. We had plenty of like weird, meth hillbillies just come walking out of the woods but we just usually offered them some booze and everything ended up well. And, being close to home, I or my family would usually know said "lurkers"... Like, "Oh, that's ol Billy Joe's nephew" or something lol. I've heard people talk about camping/partying in the woods and running into at least one murderer who'd escaped prison just hiding out in the nearby woods in a cave. But I'm sure more often than not, we scared anybody hiding in the woods more than they could have possibly scared us - we would be shooting guns, running chainsaws, etc and we'd be so messed up, we probably looked like Germanic pagans or something dancing around the fire and screaming and yelling - we'd get so crazy and drunk that I've seen - on more than one occasion - someone eating live snakes and fish. One guy was walking through the woods with a cottonmouth in one hand and a flaming torch in the other hand and his own brother shot him in the arm with a 12 gauge - it was just birdshot so we just kept drinking and partying. Getting a group of rednecks together with a group of metalheads always turns out eventful. I was more of a wallflower but it was entertaining. I've also camped quite a bit in Colorado too but it was usually the bears and big cats that caused me to sleep with one eye open there. Any nearby humans were usually pothead hippies or families.
