I'm glad Austin mentioned number 10. Christ the number of freakin' back seat drivers on forums is insane. Even on songwriting forums it's the same.
Austin, man you're so sweet! A great teacher, humble, and super talented. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with all of us!

Great as always, Austin!
finally getting back into music so time to binge watch everything i've missed!
Another great video Austin and fantastic tips/advice. I'm obviously NOT guilty of any of these mistakes. 😬
Solid advice. Thanks.
Thank you! this helped meA LOT!!
Honestly, my friend You're Amazing!
Brilliant as always!
Very helpful guy - Love watching him!
I liked that you made a distinction between quality stems and time-aligning. I think my major issue currently is the second, not the first -- but I wasn't thinking of it this way until you cleared that up :)
Cannot stress #1 enough. When I was starting out I couldn’t figure out why my mixes weren’t hitting as hard as “commercial” mixes and it’s all due to the source recordings. Then I stumbled across a really well tracked song and the mix came together seamlessly - changed everything for me. You can only polish a turd so much.

solid advice.
Great Video! Would love to hear from you on how to produce an indie-pop track.
Your videos beat every single course i've signed to, just amazing! I would love if you could make a tutorial on Zedd, something like the middle or stay! The chainsmokers would be awesome as well!
Thanksssssss
thank u :)
Good video. Yep group opinions can be hilarious and the poor OP has no idea who to believe! Streaky just posted an A/B of a £50 interface vs a £2500 interface and even on cheap computer speakers the difference was clearly audible but some commenters still preferred the mushy brightness and lack of depth of the £50 interface. 🤪

Great, thanks! Also, could you please do a video on how to create a drop if you don't know what to create? I am in the EDM and so if I don't want to do classic future house, progressive house etc. then I don't know what to create that is not yet there. Can you help?
Great tips, I was chasing all the dragons.
Amazing video as always. I have been listening to Westside by Ariana Grande a lot lately and I am wondering if you could spend some time explaining how to create a similar loop like that song with reverse and chopping screw sounds.
South Africa is in the building.
Great tutorial! What’s your opinion on pink noise mixing? Also, many plugins like Nexus add a lot of default reverb to sounds. Do you turn reverb off and add back in later in a bus? And finally what acoustic panels do you have in your studio?
@MakePopMusic
3 жыл бұрын
I don't like mixing to pink noise. Typically I will adjust the reverb of the synth preset to fit the timing and depth of my track. If I am adding a ton of different synths and the reverbs are all over the place, occasionally I will turn the internal reverbs off and use a send or an insert with similar settings to get the synths in the same space, but that's rare for me.
Can you make a video about digital platforms lufs and how to master it
🙌🏾
I'm starting to write pop music I would like to know which software you use to write songs
Hello, I watch your videos from Russia, I apologize for the clumsy English) could you make a video on how to write music in the Jon Bellion style, broken rhythms, creating melodies and mixing his voice, so that it would also come out cleanly and on the topic in the general mix?
What should we need to record professional vocals?
ı do not like pop to be honest but for producing technique ı ve got a lot from this video thanks :)
Hi bro can you make video about gainstaging please 🙏🏻
Very good points. Do you use a SUB with your focals to mix? No one really talks about this topic. Thanks!

Hi Austin , i would like your point of view about Bus compression or bus (groups) for multi channels , is it good option? is it a must to do A side chain ? can you make a tutorial of a Side chain once?
@MakePopMusic

Bus compression can be great to glue elements together. I will add some bus compression to my drum group, lead vocal group, and background vocal group sometimes!

First comment 👐👐
How do you feel about mixer presets for workflow? For example of once the vocals is routed to your mixer channel, pull up a preset that opens your compression, delay, reverb etc
@MakePopMusic
3 жыл бұрын
I don't like presets unless I'm mixing that artist again and I have a chain from the last time I mixed it. I rarely ever use preset chains. I have a template with my general routing and color coding, and from there every project gets its own treatment :D

Compression is over estimated when it comes to one shots…
Asking fake pros on forums is waste of time; they compete in nonsense…

You can file it under taste, but for me your mixes are too muddy (From the Videos I've seen). Seems to be a quality channel though, cheers.

Have you ever found the final mixes on streaming platforms? These videos are quite a bit darker than the actual mixes because the recording software doesn’t capture lossless audio and then KZread also steps on it. The mixes sound pretty different on the channel than the final mixes.
@TheShinsakuto

@@MakePopMusic Found you on www.austinhull.com and the Spotify versions really aren't muddy at all. Slipped my mind that KZread steamrolls everything. Thank you for your answer and my apologies :).

@@TheShinsakuto No worries! I didn't realize how lossy it was until I was listening back one day and I was like "wait huh?" Vocals always have this weird lispy sound and the lows lose their transients after getting screen cast which sucks.
