10-minute Off Grid Cabin Build!
Ойын-сауық
We will show you our journey of the building constructing a small rustic live-edge off grid cedar sided log cabin built by a group of friends by hand. This is how we built a small cabin in the woods on a small budget. We will show you how we hand dug our post holes to hold the cabin up, right up to installation of the custom built front door, all using a portable saw mill. You can see the whole built including full commentary here: • BUILDING a Small Cabin...

This cabin build is something my brother and I really wanted to do ever since we were kids, playing around in the forest, coupled with whatever materials we had from the local infill to build all sorts of forts. Now we build a full habitable cabin
First we start by digging in reclaimed pressure treated posts by hand using a shovel.
Next we cut and harvest dead-standing cedar and pine trees for the structure including the 2x4's, ridge beams, and sidding.
We must use battery powered hand tools because there is now power at this location in the forest.
We use reclaimed windows from a house demolition and install a used fireplace.
The roof is supplied by Vic West and goes up quickly with screws that have rubber gaskets.
The door is custom build using cedar.
The deck is held up by pine logs (dead standing) and covered with cedar.
Season 2 will cover more of the build including the interior and outbuildings for things like off grid power.
As always we are using our HD36 Norwood Portable Sawmill.

A big struggle with our cabin is keeping it warm using natural materials that are inherently leaky. So we really need to close in all the gaps.

Whenever we run out of lumber, we just mill more wood from trees that are right on the property. We'll use handtools like hammers, axes, saw, shovels and prybars, but will also use power tools including chainsaws, winches, atv's, and a chopped up SUV whenever it is convenient.
We will be using cedar and spruce trees that are standing dead so we don't have to kiln dry the wood or let it season.
Please follow along with the full playlist in order to understand the full construction of the tiny cabin.
In this series we use materials around us to construct a small forest cabin.
We'll use cedar, pine, ash, maple, and whatever else we can scrounge up from the 30 acres around us. The aim is to avoid using as much store bought material as possible and keep the budget reasonably low.
Originally we set a budget of $1000, but that included the use of a frame from an old camper trailer. As we build, the budget will remain flexible in effort to produce a cabin that we are proud of and one that will last a long while, be comfortable, and sleep real human beings.

This is an actual realistic build unlike the videos where one guy builds a cabin out of pallets that magically appeared in the middle of the forest.

This was interesting and calming to watch, and the ending with those 2 beautiful kids playing together its heartwarming, thank you for this video and good job on the video, time well spent watching!
Yes sir I see a lifetime of fun and friendship in this house. Thanks so much for sharing.
A cabin in the woods out in the middle of no where would be paradise to me
I can almost smell the freshly cut pine
Few men with hammers nails & saws tamed the wild. Beautiful!
The exterior wall is really cool lookin with those wavy planks!
Its great to have friends and family with tools and know how.
Wow all weather lumberjack carpenters, legendary effort people.👍✌️
I like that deer antler handle
Ooooh i like that saw mill
These are the people Ill be searching in the apocalypse
Many hands make light work. It is nice to see family and friends working together to build a cabin. Very lovely.
Dude, I just happened upon your chanell this evening (05-07-23). You've kept my interest for for hours; what a great presentation. These guys who send in negative comments don't deserve your time. Originally from Detroit now in California. I've been asked if I miss anything about Detroit. I replied sure, the CBC. db
Nice little cabin.
Fantastic job gentlemen ! Time well spent . This inspires me to one day build a cabin with my family ! Great video ! Enjoy !
Having a lot of hands available really helps with many of these tasks. Love this. Really nice work on this cabin.
What a beatiful video, thanks 4 this
We LOVE your channel!!!! We have less than 7 months to complete the tear down of the old 1840’s home place along with its companion barn, get them packed up and shipped out to Montana to begin the up-cycled♻️, off grid cabin build! We can’t thank you enough for all of the awesome ideas and fantastic content here on your Instagram page- we can’t wait to incorporate some of these ideas into our upcoming build! There is nothing more magical than building a new to us home to live in that was once lived in and loved by someone else so long ago! If those walls could talk! Thanks again for being such an amazing inspiration- April and Jeff
Definitely not ASMR but I love it lol

My wife and I watched every minute/episode. We thoroughly enjoyed it and the house is beautiful. We plan on building a guest house just like it but it will be more Pine than Cedar. Thanks again for sharing and hope y’all stay warm in Canada!
I wish I have one of this little cabin somewhere in the woods, and just watch the snow come down
What an awesome built! Gave me some ideas for a cabin built of my own..
Love the live edge for the shingles
Only thing more impressive than that awesome cabin y’all built is that nobody said a word the whole time. Great video!
I don’t think this is asmr but it is cool
good editing for people who missed the segment
Great cabin and excellent to see everyone enjoying it at the end.
Unbelievably talented. That cabin is stellar. Something to shoot for I guess.
Nice build and video.
love this in anticipation of my own build. I have such great vibes from this video - the use of existing timber is perfection
I watched the series as it was happening, it was fun to reflect back on that project in a condensed form.
Full stop. Crazy how all that fit into 10 min. Looks great.

Pretty damn cool. I need more friends that have some skills.
Absolutely gorgeous!

Wow. The antler door handle topped it for me. Well done.
Very organized
Good to see them using dead trees and not live ones
I love the wood building, I like whole process build the building. I'm so happy now.
I’ve watched a few of your videos now and enjoyed every minute. Especially the cabin build. Just finishing my own 12x16 remote cabin as well. Only wish I had built it when my girls were younger. Some of your ideas I’ve used myself. I pretty much built it from donated, or next to free, windows, door, wood stove and items from and old pop camper(propane stove and sink). Even have 2 bus seats for a booth, Lol. There’ll always be nay sayers about how we may do things but I’d rather listen to those who have something to contribute. Cheers from Newfoundland.

Hey bro, what’s the life expectancy. Because the timber is not treated, how does that effect the life of the build?
