Prior to the American declaration of Independence, everybody drove on the left for the reasons you mentioned. But in America where wagons had no driver's seat, the driver would have to sit on one of the horses, he preferred to sit on the left one so that his right hand could be used to whip the right horse, and by driving on the right-hand side of the road he could get a better view of wagons passing him and avoid collisions. Meh, I can play table tennis, but I find it rather unexciting and boring. It's similar like tennis but your movement is restricted only to the sides of the table. Unlike other sports in which you incorporate all of your body skills and traits (e.g rugby or American football, in which you use kicks and hands or anything in that matter), this one is like playing chess in a gym.

From what I remember, the Dutch where a trade empire (empire in a very real sense) at the time... I'm not sure they could have "Invaded" them without some serious political repercussions. But that's way out of my expertise.
