You don't stop with one watch. You usually end up with 5+. Dress, field, diver, chronograph, and GMT. Getting them serviced cost a fortune. Every 2 years, a few hundred bucks. When you get a chronograph or moon phase, it's thousands to service. After the Rolex... Jaeger, AP, IWC, and Patek. You can't go downgrade or sidegrade anymore.
