Oh, Barry's death gets better. He isn't disintegrating, nor is he returning to the speed force. He's transmuting from matter to energy. As his consciousness fades and he loses all direction, the energy flies through time and strikes a beaker of chemicals. This beaker explodes...and covers Barry Allen, causing him to gain super speed. Barry is both the participant and the catalyst for his own origin story.

Ah. That's a predestination paradox. If time travel is possible, effect can precede cause. It cannot, however, be its own cause.

@@alm2187 I always get a kick out of predestination paradox twists. Some poor shmoe tries to prevent an event from happening, only to realize they caused it in the first place. And often dies in said event, causing an eternal loop of cause and effect.

@@alm2187 yo, you seem to know stuff, so I got an question, can there be multiple forms of time travel that co-exist like Harry potters time travel, or back to the future?

I honestly think that time is still a river always flowing forward, it's just that you jump into a different river so to spesk if you travel backwards. I assume there are no otherrivers however, making backwards travel impossible
I will always remember Firestorm's death in Identity Crisis. After he is run through with Shadow Knight's sword, the nuclear reactor inside of him is punctured. He realizes that he is going to explode and there is nothing that anyone can do to save him. Shazam tells him to fly away as fast as he can. Without hesitation, he flies off, and his last words are, "Someone say goodbye to my dad for me" before he detonates in the sky.

How can you not have Hal’s death in final night? He redeems himself from emerald twilight and zero hour and reignites the sun by saying the oath one last time and expelling all his energy. Come on it was beautiful.
They sing no songs in Hel, nor do they celebrate heroes, for silent is that dismal realm and cheerless. But the story of the Gjallerbru and the god who defended it is whispered across the Nine Worlds. And when a new arrival asks about the one to whom even Hela bows her head, the answer is always the same. He stood alone at Gjallerbru and that is answer enough. (Thor #362) Skurge the Executioner for #1.

Best comic death of all time.
Regarding the arrow death: That's something I lowkey hate with the "revenge" things. It's nearly almost always a "swift death" as payback for... hours of torture. Very rare to see an actual "eye for an eye" in those.

@Kattlarv

@@sonic3000010 Quite the opposite. It fails at EVERY turn. Or to clarify: It DOES offer "eye for eye" payback. But... *completely* fails at any type of ... let's call it "balance". For example: The bad R men do R *because* they are bad R men, and want personal gratification out of it. The bad R women do it because... they are sadists. And cannot get personal gratification. Because "they aren't men". It basically boils down to: Man: "I'm gonna do R because I am a man, and it satisfies me physically." Woman: "I'm going to torture people with my R, because I am not a man. So I cannot be satisfied physically!" Not to mention the whole: "You R'd my mother! So, I am going to... turn you into a woman, and let other bad men R you, because women cannot R men." Overly simplified, I know. But that's basically that show in a nutshell.

I always, always, seem to get something in my eye, when I get to the part where the spirit of Nimue rips out Hellboy's heart. It just comes out of nowhere. Likewise, when, in the BPRD series, Roger the Homunculus was killed. He was such a likeable character, it was a great shame. He could be brought back, but his spirit told BPRD agents that he preferred to stay dead.

Oh man, number 5 broke me first time I read it, had that final panel as a wallpaper on my computer and everything for the longest time. Truly a death worthy of Odinson and Hyperion.
Ted Kord's Blue Beetle when he's executed by Max Lord in Countdown To Infinite Crisis. A noteworthy last stand.

I had the final issue of Spider-Woman. Jessica Drew accompanies Magnus, her "old wizard friend," on some out-of-body time travel. (All run of the mill for Marvel, right?) At the end, her mortal form is right where she left it, but her body & spirit can't remerge. They somehow suss that villainess Morgana Le Fey (iirc) killed her inanimate husk while she was out.
Have you guys done a "most badass final stands in comics" or something similar

I was sure #1 was going to be Thanos having his heart ripped out by Drax. He saw Lady Death prior to it happening so he knew his death was imminent. Stunned that it didn't even make your list as it epitomizes that moment.
All star superman should have a mention. Not main continuity but Supes knew he was dying and showed his best qualities.
