As big as Isaac is it always feels to me that it's still very much unnoticed or disregarded by most, despite the influences we see in modern games. Vampire Survivors certainly spawned an entire generation or copies and inspirations, but that game itself came from the wider genre that Isaac inspired, even though it's still under the rogue umbrella itself. Isaac is Heavy Metal to the traditional rogue-like Rock & Roll, and Vampire Survivors is the Power Metal that inspired it's own tree of subgenres. It's all good, but these days there isn't enough love for some of the good old classics!

@@w1-em4nq in case you didn't check it out (or just, anyone seeing this later) it kinda is, kinda isn't. Big point, not all that infinite - doesn't overstay it's welcome, but there's a limit to unlockables, which is the core reason to try out new weapons, characters, and 'task'. Flipside, great excuse to keep going till it's done, the dlcs are good, and the latest dlc (or just a patch) has this 'story mode' ish separate thing, that's like a repeatable, resetable subsection of characters, items, and unlocks to give back that early vibe.

Heroes of Might and Magic 3. That game is more than 2 decades old and it still is loads of fun to play. The fact that the fandom is still incredibly active and even making full blown expansions to the game, on top of it being a repeat top seller on GOG is just a further testament to the games immense staying power. Neverwinter Nights is another one that is still going strong thanks to an active modding scene.

I’d like to throw my hat in for Civ 6. Insane amounts of map types, sizes, game modes, and leaders that lead to a different experience with every game. This is still my go to game when me and my friends can’t decide what to play together or just wanna hang out and play something casual. Perfect balance between mentally engaging and relaxing. Or you can crank the difficulty up and give yourself a challenge! So much to do in civ!

Played Civ 4, 5 and 6. Played 6 more than 4 and 5 combined, bought a new content pack to try to convince me to play a different map/scenario from huge map real World start location. For the first 100 hours I couldn't work out the game, or more specifically whether I liked it. I've put almost 1000 hours into it now, and I've done all the new leaders on the, erm, huge map real World starting point.

I want to add couple of more and I am surprised you didn't mention these: 1. Hades: every run is randomised, every rooms reward changes every run. So your build changes in every run and it is quite fun. 2. Elden Ring: there are hundreds of different weapons in elden ring and every weapon drastically changes the gameplay. And also there are a lot of different weapon arts to combine. 3. Baldur's Gate 3: You can do ultimate role playing in this game. For example I made Geralt of Rivia, for my second playthrough I am planning to create Galadriel from Lord of the Rings. It gives you the opportunity to become whoever you want. Either yourself or those fantasy fiction characters.

Yeah the tower of Sisyphus is so damn addictive. And that shit gets HARD by the upper levels. The base game was amazing and beautiful, the story is great, the cosmic horror elements are unnerving, but once I got the secret ending I felt done with the game. Runs are too long to have that compulsive “one more run” factor. Then they dropped the tower of Sisyphus dlc and made it a much quicker more action focused and that shit goes HARD. So addictive.

The fact that I had to grind for 20 minutes just to lose to a boss over and over again because I didn’t got lucky with RGN made it unbearable and a waste of time. Yes, 7 Days to Die 100% With over 2000 hours in the game I still haven't explored half the buildings, let alone remodeled them into anti-zombie fortresses. Do you remodel a grocery store, a police station, tool store, one of the sky scrapers, a prison, gun store, hospital, bar, nudy bar, daycare, some factory, or one of the hundreds of types of houses, mansions, apartments, motels, trailer parks, etc. or do you build from scratch? And where? Everybody is different and has their own swear by strategy, but every game you'll always have a better idea, making the game play practically endless.

Deep Rock Galactic is absolute perfect. Even if you fail a mission, the players will not rage quit, they just try again, plus they are very friendly, that is probably one of the coolest thing of that game. Also that game can be pretty hard, especially in the long run missions. It was a game that I found randomly, and it is to me, one the best games I ever play for cop-op or multiplayer game.

Iv spent almost 16 years in skate 1. The feel and feedback of every move you make in that game makes you feel like you are really on the board and really doing every trick. The weight and impact of the pops landing and grinding is unreal. None of the sequels came close to the feeling of the first in my opinion so I don't have much hope for skate 4 if it releases sadly. There are a lot of other games that come to mind as well but I am just always so impressed with skate 1 every time I jump in.

Falcon saying "I never said I'm good at dead cells I just said I like it" is me saying "I never said I was good at games I just love playing them" makes me think of this time my wife was playing no man sky and told me "I wish you played this so you could get good at the game and teach me all the cool tips and tricks like you did with borderlands and fallout" I told her "I'm not as good at games as you think I am I just spend a lot of time on youtube looking up tips and tricks videos and letting the smart players teach me everything" but I love that she thinks I'm some God of video games even though I consider myself midly below average at best. For me it's Sifu because the amount of mods there are and how robust the Replay Editor is. You can take almost any character from any other game, port them into Sifu, and make martial arts films with them. I've made so many Sifu Short Films on my channel and it has inspired me to fall in love with martial arts films, learn cinematography, and even bolster my film scoring skills.

The game I probably go back to most to in a year is Minecraft, my main survival world was started on Xbox 360 in 2013. It's fun to add to your world and see where you came from in your older builds. Other than that I replay the entire Elder Scrolls series every other year, from Arena to Skyrim, I've started playing Elder Scrolls in 1998 and it has a very special place in my heart.

I wish they had done their obligatory mentions first. Like they are highlighting less well known games, but there's a reason Minecraft and TES instantly come to mind...both super open ended, both great mod scenes.Creative mode Minecraft is a digital art medium in addition to the base survival/adventure game, and then you can try to do those same whacky builds and redstone machines in survival when you really want a challenge. The mod scene on TES is what pulls it ahead of other RPG series who's base games I've played hundreds of hours of...as much as I'd love to see the Fallout, Bauldur's Gate, or even the Mass Effect series get a mention, TES's mods are what make that series infinite.

The problem is once someone gets good at any particular game, picking up another game feels like starting over and having to relearn everything. Sure some skills might carry over, but there's always a pretty steep learning curve. It also depends on what someone's friends are playing. If they are hooked on playing Fall Guys as a squad, for example, then playing a different game will be kind of lonely and friends usually want to stick together doing the same thing even if it gets a bit boring because it is more about the camaraderie than the actual game being played.

Time is prescious and we only have one life. Yakuza Games are the exception : i dont replay them but mini games can be fun or/and adictive ( The Hostess one ).

Nah it doesn't have enough mods. I don't see much replayability in it other than just going around and killing bandits. Replaying once is fine if you'd like to see the different plots but other than that there's not much to replay. Not having different skill trees doesn't help. But, CDPR is releasing a mod editor for witcher 3 this year so hopefully it gets modded a lot just like Skyrim and become a super replayable game.

Earth Defense Force series(4, 5 and 6) are hidden gems that not many people know about due to having no marketing, but one of the best replayable 4-player coop game series ever made. There're insects the size of a car, aliens the size of a building, freaking godzillas, and UFO the size of a city. And you fight them with guns, explosives, laser weapon, air strikes, satellite lasers, all kinds of vehicles and exoskeletons. Each series around 100 levels with each mission ranging between 10 minutes to near an hour, 4 different classes, 5 difficulties, with each difficulty unlockes different weapon and different enemy mutation and spawns, even story dialog details change along with them. Each EDF game can easily get hundreds or even over a thousand hour without feeling tired

I think Earth Defense Force (4.1, 5, 6) deserves a mention. It's the only series I still know of that offers good arcade gameplay and endless grind, and infinite ammo. Not to mention each game has over 100 missions including DLC. EDF6 actually hits 200 with DLC. You can grind armor on these games forever, there are a ridiculous amount of weapons to pick from (and upgrade on later games), etc.
