You are DEFINITELY an art journalist. Just because you don’t paint, doesn’t mean that what you’re doing is not art. A lot (read : ALL) of your creations are so beautiful, creative, and artful. Almost every video of yours, I’m always in awe and have lots of “how did I not think of that?” moments. Thank you for this great reminder of what we can use in our creations ❤️ “Use what you have” is a definite motto for us art journalists. Have a beautiful day and thank you for creating this video!

OMG, the free things I've gotten over the years! Yarn, beads, lace, lace trim, fabric, cardstock, scrapbooking paper, rubber stamps, paper punches, markers, calendars, tissue paper, seashells, ephemera, thread, buttons, feathers, foam shapes, etc. Just not die cuts, glitter glue, scissors or ink pads.When you give and give and give, and craft and craft and craft, people will give you everything unwanted, rather than toss it out, bcz they know you'll use it, or rehome it, and that you'll really appreciate it. They appreciate giving stuff to someone who is already a giver.

I don’t believe I’ve ever seen a video this in depth about crafting materials that don’t cost anything!

I made junk journal with my 2nd graders and they loved it! It opened their creative minds and weekly I took in my scraps and they treasured them.

I did that with 4th graders for my Elementary Art course. It actually stumped some kids because by then they’ve been told what & how to the project of the day & struggled to trust me, a stranger, that whatever they do with the materials will be ok. It was overall a lot of fun when they got going.

I have a confession: I have stuff for every category you’ve shown here. Why? Beauty can be found everywhere. I’ve just moved my craft room to a larger space and handled everything in used jars, office files, packets, redwelds, notebooks, etc. Bits and bobs galore. I used to make costume jewelry, beading, and got into papercrafting several years ago. I LOVE the piling on of diecuts onto a card. But I want more! I wanted to learn junk journaling after following Tim Holtz for a few years, and found your channel today. Your excellent teacher’s voice sharing your finds and makes has connected all the dots. I have all the ingredients and needed to find recipes. You’re a master, and I very much appreciate everything you’ve shared. Now that I’ve handled every single thing while reorganizing I can say that while I’ve hoarded way too much stuff for decades, I like order. All my glass jars and folders filled with broken things and scraps are arranged by type, color, texture, and labeled accordingly. I moved here after my mom (best friend!) died last November 1st so that my stepdad wouldn’t be alone, and have kept her “special” clothes, shoes, coats, purses and jewelry so that I could tell HER STORY. I’m the creative one in the family, and no one understands why I’ve hoarded my own stuff and now Mom’s stuff. But it’s neatly arranged and labeled and I have space for all of it. I was led to you, My Dear, and I’m inspired to begin soon. I’m grateful to you and I can’t begin until I’ve watched way more from your channel. Love the faux hand made paper, drives my husband crazy that I save the tea bags, lol. I really like using free items, when I first started I bought way too many things. Repurposing items we would throw away is so helpful. Your mark making idea bag is great, I need to do that. I was just showing my son the other day how and why to save buttons, very few people do that now. Buying buttons now is quite a bit more than it was even ten years ago. Also using the old clothing to make strips for rugs or belly bands for journaling. We throw away so much when people during the depression used to use everything up or repurpose it.

I also save a lot of things now, and I repurpose them when making things for my grandchildren, or just for other uses around the house. I have people say that I'm really creative, but it's just a case of seeing something, or seeing a need for something, and then thinking of a way to utilise what I have, or thinking about how I can reuse something that looks pretty, or something that I consider is too good to throw out, I try to think of a way I can give it another useful, &/or pretty life. It's also very challenging to think of ways to repurpose items as it also keeps my mind working, and in a way that I never have before. I've never considered myself as creative before, but now that I'm older (nigh on 70), I've begun to think I am a little bit nowadays because I even surprise myself with the way I come up with ideas that I never would have when I was younger. I also love the challenge when I see people online making things using bought items, to try to think of another way to achieve the same thing but by utilising things that I already have. My consideration about using what I have is partly for the creative challenge, partly because I'm becoming greener with age so the more I think about the depletion of the earth's resources, partly because I'm very concerned about the reduced materials that will be left for my grandchildren, partly because I think of the greenhouse effect and how it will affect my grandchildren, and partially to save money. I remember when I was young that we never heard about sunscreen, or such a thing as spf when we used thick applications of pink or white zinc cream on our noses, cheeks and shoulders to stop our skin from burning then blistering, and then the ugly peeling. We never even heard of sunBlock. We had no idea that the sun could cause cancer, or more wrinkles or age spots when we were older. We'd never have even heard of age spots or skin cancers/melanomas. No-one ever thought about having skin checks for skin cancers, and we'd never heard of 'malignant', or 'melanomas'. I think that with the depletion of the ozone layer, has come the knowledge of melanomas and the various cancers. We'd lie out in the sun for hours wearing coconut oil to get a good tan, while doing our best to judge it carefully so that we got enough sun to tan, but not so much that we'd burn, because we certainly didn't want to blister and peel. We knew that we had to do it gradually (although we'd try our best to get it sooner without peeling, but some of us still peeled easily), say over a week, so that we didn't burn, because 'a good tan' was what we all aimed for. We hadn't even heard the 'ozone layer', nor did we hear about skin cancer, or any other cancer or melanomas for that matter. We also thought that the gifts/minerals found out of the earth were an endless supply. We didn't even think about chopping trees down for land clearing, or for making paper, etc. It was a bit like women plucking their eyebrows. We didn't know that they weren't going to grow back, and so it was the same with land clearing. We've damaged so much of the planet with all of the rainforests that we've chopped down that the fragile ecosystem has been damaged to the point where we've already lost many bird and animal species that we're desperately trying to replete, but no matter how hard we try, the planet will never be the same again. This is why we so desperately need people to reuse as much as we possibly can, and find other sustainable ways to achieve the materials that we're currently using that come out of the earth. We need to learn how to reuse what we already have instead of wasting what we currently have, and rethink the way we utilise whatever we dig out in the future.

@@wendyfay16 Your comment turned into a book itself! I love it! I can't write 'small' either! My family thinks I'm nuts for saving stuff, and often complains about it. I hope no one complains about you, or anyone trying to save things for crafting purposes, or garden uses even, which I also do, although gardening is very difficult for me the last couple years. I am 70 now, so I understand all the comments about the earth, and not thinking about all the things we're seeing happen today. It makes me sad and mad to see we've become such a 'throw away, disposable' world now. Anyway happy saving, and journaling. Or whatever you use your treasures for!

Thank you so much for inspiring me! I am a cancer survivor and 40 yrs ago went to art school, but was never able to parlay that into a career. After watching you one day, and lamenting that I didn't have any money to buy stickers, etc., I realized I can draw and make anything I want!!! So now my journals are super individual and unique because no stickers, stamps or other things are used, so my journals and paper art is now one of a kind. Nobody will ever have anything like mine!!!

What a delight! You have given me a lot to think about. I am new to junk journaling, I wasn't even considering making one but I will now. My mum passed away a couple of years ago and recently I came across lots of correspondence I had from her. Well I am going to put it all together in one journal, using cards and making pockets for the letters. It will be a lasting legacy to pass on to my son, better than a bunch of letters in a bag. So thx very much indeed

Natasa, thank you for sharing your passion. All this incredible packaging is valuable. I know that when I buy a box of tissues, I am paying for the packaging. So I tell anyone who scoffs, at using this throw away stuff...I say..."You paid good money for it, be proud to use it". This usually changes their perspective. Companies go to a lot of trouble to create eye catching packaging. Good on you for making such beautiful items. You are very talented.

Very inspirational!! I love everything you mentioned! More often than not, the people I watch have all kinds of expensive gadgets and a ton of digitals (I personally think using digitals in a "junk" journal is cheating, but everyone is entitled to their opinion). Also Dear Natasa, art is whatever you think it is. There are no rules, and no art police. Your journal covers are art. Your beading on the spine. Your color composition when putting things together. Your faux leather. These are all art. If you like to paint or draw, that is art. No matter how "good" you think you are at it. If it brings you joy, you should continue to do it! 💙

Girl, you are genius. Last week, I watched your "getting to know you" video for the first time, and was so moved by your story (and inspired). I sent you an email. Your mother didn't just give you the gift of a lifetime back in Sarajevo, she gifted all of us who benefit so much from your shared ideas. I am new to papercrafting, and everyone in the youtube PC world are so wonderful and helpful and sharing and caring. I'm old now, so finding this wonderful art at my age and stage of life has been a gift from God. I was severely injured in 2005, but survived, and now I'm retired on disability after working until 2012, and it is not just lying on the cough watching soap operas and eating bon bons (an A,merican expression). It's awful. The first week is great: you catch up on sleep. You watch tv and movies you missed. I garden, so I worked in my small flower garden. I went to bed late, and slept late and then .... there are too many idle hours in the day. I now papercraft for some period of time nearly every day, while watching TV, trying to break the bad habit of snacking while watching TV, now I craft. I have used so many of your ideas since I started -- and like you, my sewing machine is my No. 1 favorite tool -- not just for crafting, but for all areas of my life -- my 2nd favorite tool is my full size, 12 by 12 score board -- sorry to prattle on so much, but I wanted you to know how much you inspire me. Lately I've been watching YT on my tv more than my computer, and I can't leave messages. I have a brain injury from my accident which affects my short-term memory and I can't remember where I put my phone -- ha -- now the battery is dead -- but I made a journal for my son's 30th birthday, which was quite the scandal when I gave birth to him at age 5 ;>} -- but it's not complete because I keep waffling about the cover. -- and your idea about the "scrunched up" napkin on cardboard and then painting it with gold highlights is genius -- the journal is a mash up of his favorite things throughout his life, and when he was small he loved dragons. At the thrift store I found a 100 % men's silk komono embroidered with dragons with gold thread, which is great -- but -- to cover the entire journal didn't make sense -- I then thought I'd cut up an old purse that had decorative straps on the front like the old suitcases had, but that wasn't quite right either -- now I'm going to use YOUR idea and finally finish it -- his birthday was Jan. 25th -- last year for Christmas, I finally finished the Jurassic Park quilt I began making for him when he was eight -- better late than never -- ha -- but if I may make a suggestion -- why don't you create a journal with this type of cover for father's day and sell it in your shop, or take orders -- you won't be able to make enough !!! Again, sorry I'm so wordy, but I wanted you to know how much I really appreciate your sharing, especially now that I know your story. My email was to tell you that when you were that scared little girl -- I cannot imagine the courage everyone there faced -- in America I was a young adult working in the legal industry on some of the largest lawsuits in the country, and we talked almost daily about Sarajevo. I personally prayed for everyone every day, as did many of the churches in our area, because it touched us so much, worried about the children and families, not the political outcome. When I moved into this home in 2016, it was a quiet little neighborhood in the city very close to a large and very beautiful nature park. I love birds, and there was every type of bird and animals, including deer that walked through our backyard -- and now, instead of the hooting of the owl that spent its nights in our tree in the back yard, there is gunfire and murder every damn day -- I cannot image being either you as a young girl, or as your mother, caring only for the safety of her family -- but you were never alone there. On the other side of the world, we were there with you, both in physical donations of aid and in our hearts and prayers. And now look at you, the beautiful soul and artist and mother of that treasured little boy. God's peace be with you always and in all ways -- Patricia

THANK YOU! You have made me feel like I'm not the only person in the world saving everything. Brilliant ideas and inspiration.

Love all of these ideas. I often have things that come in the post or gift wrapping etc that I really hate having to part with. I make things for my grandbabies using various items along with purchased items. I'm currently making a garage for my grandson using the hard clear plastic boxes, etc that come as boxes, etc and I can use them for the windows or other parts that I think of while making other things. The garage is made with felt, but the firm plastic pieces are for windows of different shapes, for ramps on the garage and so many other things as it's going to be a collapsible garage that can be taken when there will be a long wait, and he can play with it with his little matchbox cars and trucks. I made my granddaughter a mushroom house for her dolls, including some peg dolls that I bought for her and painted the faces and clothes on them to go with the mushroom house. Since then I've come across other items that I can use to make other dolls houses. I never throw out anything that looks pretty even if I call think of another use for them at the time, it's amazing just what ideas come to mind when I'm making something special. I love saving these things to reuse them when making something else. They make it easy to provide inspiration for things. I'm not into scrapbooking just for hthe sake of it, but I do love to use these things for something useful. I love what yo do uwith all of these things. You're a woman after my own heart! I'd love to see you make collapsible things for children to use in quiet times. Some of those things are also great for making books for little children's books with zippers, buckles, buttons, shoe laces, etc made into books for them to learn how to use them, such as doing up their buttons on their clothes, same with zippers, shoe laces, hair bows, knots, etc. People who have dementia also like books that have crunchy paper, bubble wrap, and all type of different textured things made into books similar to the books for children. I hate throwing out any of these things that come as parts friends other items. Thanks for showing that it's not just hoarding for the sale of it, but it's hoarding for a purpose!

Hello Natasha you're a real artist! You can also use fleecy sheets (the ones we use in the dryer machine) after being used you can color them with different kind of colors or dye and they become so beautiful.

Found this video randomly so started watching it and I must say, YOU ARE SO GENIUS!!! I’m mind blown. We often don’t realise how much stuff we have lying around to use. 10 mins into the video and I cut open a cardboard box I was about to throw!! This video is TRULY A TREASURE 💐💖🌥👏🏼

I feel completely VINDICATED, at last :-) I adore tissue boxes and cereal bags & boxes. I love using them as windows in cards and add dried flowers and photos and nature/botanical pics. In fact, i save almost EVERY thing you showed (plus buttons)! I think you're a sister by another mother!!!

Ive always been a hoarder since i was a kid, but as ive gotten older i try to manage it to things i can repurpose, or things i know i really want to keep and reuse. For the past year ive been saving so many paper scraps and old tags and such, and finally i can do something with them. i wanted to use them in my formal art pieces, but i think im just gonna paste some of them chaotically into my sketchbook :)

Now I’m thinking of all the broken bits and bobs I’ve thrown away through my life! Will never look at an old/broken purse or wallet or boots or jewelry or clothes the same way again!!!

This is the best art journal, scrap journal, homemade art video I have seen. Normally I speed up videos or skip through things but I found myself mesmerized your tips and ideas and the books that you had made. Huge inspiration for me! Thanks!😊

I just pressed a lot of flowers from my sons farm. I love them and will use them in my journals. I bought pressed flowers and realised they were just those we see on our walks. Thank you.

I haven't watched half of the video yet but this gave me so much inspiration!

I've done this sort of "collecting" all my life and am now in my late sixtyies. I gather stuff from friends and family and turn them in to cards, books, etc, then give them back to them and they are mostly, non the wiser 😂😂 occasionally I get a , do I recognise this? But that's part of the fun of it. But if you are new to this BEWARE it is totally addictive and almost impossible to stop seeing something in everything, just as the lovely lady says. But it is so much fun and so rewarding to make something beautiful from Junk.

I love this video! Your sense of humor is great. "Don't become a hoarder. Don't keep everything... Like me". That made me laugh SO hard, my children came to see what was so funny!

You are very creative and resourceful!! I do the same this with items/objects I come across…”how can I repurpose/reuse this?” I worked with a former preschool teacher who was the Queen of junk but….called them “treasures!” I learned from her as well. Over the years I look at things before I recycle/trash them and ask “can I do something with this?” Usually I take it to preschool to paint with or keep it at home to use in my crafting. I LOVE your idea with the wipe dispenser top!!! I’m going to save my makeup wipe tops and the dog wipe ones to make mini journals. Brilliant!!! Blessings!!!

Every month I keep small pieces of paper, tiny boxes, potential bookmarks, thinking I would do something with it, and then I just watch the paper bin get full before it gets emptied on collection day. This is inspiring me in so many ways, and also tells me I'm not the only one out thinking that paper pile is actually a treasure!

You are a genius! The variety and artfulness of your creations is Awesome, you inspire me more than any other creator of any of the crafts I dabble in. Keep up the amazing videos, you've turned a drab day into an inspired one. Thank you!

This video just opened my eyes to everything I have around my house, I currently have plastic from 3 cereal boxes washed and rinsed sitting on my counter. I can't believe the amount of things I can use instead of running to Michael's and spending a fortune on paper and printables and whatever else. Thank you for taking the time to do this, really. I'm so excited to start!!!!

I loved watching this video !!! I have been doing like you since I was a little girl, picking up things from the ground, tearing things out of fliers and junk mail, and tearing pieces out of unwearable clothes,purses and other things. I cut on both sides of felled seams and use them like string or ribbon. Thank you much.

Oh gosh Natasa! I’m well on my way to hoarding! My husband is like, we’re not throwing anything away anymore! Lol. I’ve also started visiting local thrift shops too. Junk journaling really has given me a new perspective on how I can use things/repurpose things we would normally throw away. Thank you for inspiring!

Hello from California! Thank you so much all the ideas! I started to make my own junk journaling and I saved a lot of postcards, business cards, just a lot things I saved on my travels to different states, including Hawaii and Alaska, and Canada, so I can make travel junks journals. It’s all saved in boxes and bins and put away in my guest room closet so our bedroom won’t look like a messy craft room…Me and my hubby really need to make a craft room for me or we need to move to a bigger house! Lol 😉… Thank you for sharing your ideas! 💖😁

Ive been doing this stuff since i started journaling. My kids thought i was nuts.thanks for proving them wrong Lol.

Like me.” I love how cheerfully you say that because I say it the exact same way. 😅 My husband had noooo idea what he was really getting into when he decided to spend forever with me. This Poor guy is always having to look at neatly stacked selections of “trash” and ask if saving it. He’s stopped asking what I am saving each piece for though. And thank heavens for that. LOVE your videos! They give me the motivation to create rather than just stare at my amassed collection of journal making supplies and go blank. ❤️

Yay for real junk journalling - so many great ideas - makes my little diy heart sing! I love the effect of the dried tea bag over the pictures - amazing! We really are swimming in endless resources that can create infinite possibilities - it's kind of overwhelming really - thank you for your inspiration! My favourite find recently was discovering the local takeaway joint uses paper bags lined with wax -I can print an image onto the wax side and use it as a transfer - works great - though kind of dangerous on the waist!

15 seconds in and I’m hooked! The bad thing is I WILL NEVER THROW ANYTHING AWAY AGAIN!

What a fabulous video! I have a large bag of greeting cards that were sent to my mother over the years (I think she kept every single one!). She passed away about two years ago and although my intention was to put the cards in the recycling I haven't been able to bring myself to do so. After viewing this video I'm glad I still have them. I will select some and create a journal of her special occasions to be treasured. The rest I will use as suggested in your greeting card journal video. I’m right there with you. Mom died almost a year ago, and she kept EVERY SINGLE CARD anyone ever sent her. I really don’t know what to do with them. I may be closer to finding their purpose after Natasha’s video and reading your comment! Blessings to you.

Inspired and blown away! I absolutely love your tutorial. I laughed when you said not becoming a hoarder but OMGOODNESS! Your entire video was filled with ideas but I think my MOST favorite was recycling the jewelry and using a simple paper clip to attach! Definitely subscribed and will be on the look out for more! This video showed me I am on the right track when I collect travel brochures and maps and magazines. So many of the things you mentioned are thingsI love to save and use.

Right Judie! I LOVE the rigid people create,but there is no way I can afford the inks to print them with! So, I have to search hard for alternatives that can be just as pretty, but that's not always the case. I don't wish to tear apart vintage/ antique books either ( Sacrilege and they are Valuable as a whole, or Rare) . If they can be copied and printed as Public Domain ,I would or will. I don't own a printer because they always go out of date, and can't be fixed,or inks are hard to find, and expense,don't last as long as claimed etc! Sooo, Magazines and books in plentiful supply or misc papers,mail etc. are what I have. Or,,rubber stamped images and my own hand drawn or painted/ colored... Bit of a wind bag am I lol! Lots of goodies to be found at yard sales,second hand shops,recycle bins, book sales or via swap pages online etc. Have Fun!!! Be Blissfully Creative✍🎨📜📚📑📂📎😁

I am both inspired and sad seeing this video. I am new to junk journaling. Last year, I was "strongly encouraged" by my niece to "declutter". I gave in. I had an amazing collection of many things I found lovely. They are now gone. On the bright side, I have a reason to begin collecting again. I clean for a living and people always throw out things that can be repurposed. I have a reason to look forward to work now, ☺!

I ran into a video the other day that talked about junk journaling, and it seemed that the woman has spent a lot of money on supplies. I then wondered why she kept using the word “junk” if most of her items were new. I just ran into this (your) video and it has brought me a lot of joy and encouragement...WHY? Because I LOVE how you are repurposing “junk” to make a journal. This is real junk journaling.
