Montenegro or Croatian people used to be the highest ones, as I know, then dutchies. Also, NL is quite multicultural, so all subsequent generations will probably be more mixed height.

A few things: After Hurricane Katrina struck the New Orleans area, city officials there consulted engineers from the Netherlands about flood control. You can see more Dutch influence in New York City with the names of neighborhoods like Harlem. The bicycle fact, probably also includes the random bikes left throughout Hoge veluwe national parks to use on the bike trails. I loved that experience.

Related Dutch/American history: Martin Van Buren began life speaking Dutch in a New York Dutch community and is the only US president to have spoken English as a second language. Cousins Theodore Roosevelt and Franklin D. Roosevelt were also of Dutch ancestry.

Ik ook. At this point I'm understanding far more than I can speak though. When I try to say what I'm thinking, I'm still having to think in English and convert, but I'm having trouble with word order and vocabulary recall. I can't quite think in Nederlands yet. I've been working on the Duolingo course, but I'm only a couple weeks in. Watching "Easy Dutch" and Kim's channel are helping. I've also started watching NOS, but that's still mostly way over my head. Good luck, Paola. Tot ziens!

Zero bikes. My boys are trying to learn before we move there but they are 14 and 17. Lol. We have several cars though. My acls are both torn from basketball so bike riding is extremely painful for me. Hopefully I'll still fit in okay!

You don’t have to bike to fit in, lol. Maybe try an electric bike, that might work for you. Once the boys discover the freedom a bike gives them they will bike all day.

Aha! I did know all these facts. The one I love touting especially is New Amsterdam, which is what I still refer to New York City as when discussing it with folks. 😆

We hebben Vlaggetjesdag ook in Duitsland. Bijvoorbeeld hier in Bremen, of in Ostfriesland. Dat heet hier "Matjestag".

Het woord Matjestag komt waarschijnlijk van het woord Nederlandse woord maatjesharing, een verbastering van maagden haring of maagdelijke haring. Maatjesdag dus in het Nederlands.

Gebruiken Nederlanders ook veel het woord "stoned"? Een van mijn vrienden, die uit Groningen komt, zegt dat hij en zijn vrienden "skaff" zeggen-een heel coole term! Mijn familie maakte deel uit van de New Amsterdam Dutch, maar de naam werd verzonnen in Amerika.

Another Dutch fact: for some reason the Dutch like to come to Wales for their holidays! 😆 Well, perhaps not - it could just be coincidence. My Dutch friend (a 1.88m tall woman, so also helping to confirm fact #9) came to visit in August, and while she was here, I've never seen so many cars with Dutch number plates. I counted about 16 cars over 3 days. By contrast, in the same time I think I saw two German, one Spanish, one French and a handful of other cars from mainland Europe.

My Dutch is only one things hehe : Ado den Hag. Forever. And second : Amsterdam capital and nice cities in Netherlands 🇳🇱 😀 👌 👍 😉 😄. Take care darling. Actually, the dutch traded Nieuw Amsterdam for an island in Indonesia, so the VOC could get the monopoly on the nutmeg (nootmuskaat) trade.

Finally someone who knows the whole story :) Both countries could keep what they had (In this case the English, New York and The Netherlands Suriname) but The Netherlands also got the last of the Banda Islands.

Dutch is the 3rd most widely spoken Germanic language - after English and German.

Het was een leuke pubquiz! Ik wist ook veel dingen nog niet. De buitenstad van Amsterdam moet ook op palen staan , mijn vader moet er zo nu en dan wat heien ;) En als weetje: Wist je dat Den Haag officieel geen stad is?

Best teacher. The Dutch people also tried to colonize my city is called "RECIFE " In Brazil, unfortunately they couldn't. But they built some things here etc.. and today we have a museum to remind us of that.

@@PetraStaal haha sorry if i confused you. I said unfortunately because the Dutch didn't stay here long. so they couldn't colonize and make the Dutch language our language. So, whoever got it was Portugal. so today we speak Portuguese and not Dutch. which is sad because I really like the Dutch language and culture. :/ but it's ok at least the Dutch people tried and they built nice things here. 😀

Graag gedaan! And about the piles: that's what the paid version of VanDale suggested because they are specific kind of poles, in Dutch "heipalen" and they've translated that as "piles" in the dictionary...

My thinking would be that 'poles' are above ground whilst 'piles' are below - hence the use of 'pile driving machines'

@@hannofranz7973 Een dochtertaal is afkomstig van de moedertaal. Duits is niet afkomstig van het Nederlands. Duits, Engels, Fries en Nederlands behoren tot dezelfde talengroep, de West-Germaanse talen. Ze zijn dus verwant.

ik heb een nederlandse frau en ik kan praat en beetje nederlands....nu engels...... I find I can understand about90% of what kim says but when my wife's relations are speaking I am lost...too fast and too much slang/dialect/difficult words and phrases...if only they all talked like kim!...and when it comes down to it, nearly all of them speak excellent English
