U restoranu ili ducanu cesto vode small talks, pa pitaju “ How was your weekend?, What are your plans for the weekend”😂😆, sto je za nas prilicno cudno i to definitivno neisputujes strance koje si tek sreo 🙄😂. Al to sve pitaju tek tako, da ih uopce nezanima vas odgovor! Kad dolaze u goste, nedonose vam nista, a kad vi idete kod njih, morate si puno puta ponijet vlastito pice! Meni definitivno vise odgovara nas stil zivljenja I uzivanja u zivotu! Zime su uzasnooo duge i depresivne! Moja obitelj i ja tu definitivno nismo nasli svoju srecu I gledam ovo kao ogromno iskustvo i vise sada cijenim nas zivot I mentalitet definitivno!

Meni npr. fali moja obitelj, jer smo muz, djeca i ja sami tu, a vrijeme brzo tece I nemozes vratit izgubljeno!

Otprilike nakon skoro godinu dana sredili smo sve potrebne doktorske preglede i ostale peripetije dobili potrebne papire i dosli u Kanadu. Znaci racuni uvijek veci nego prikazani.

More accurately what is now sold in plastic bottles as fresh milk, with short expiration date, back then was sold in bags, or more rarely in glass bottles. But you had pasteurized milk with long shelf life in Tetra Pack, not all milk was in bags. In fact where I live those bags with fresh milk would always sold out in the morning so if you came later all you could buy was milk in Tetra Pack. As I recall pyramid shape Tetra Pack was very popular in the 80's for some reason.

This is such a heavy topic here still, that unless you are very familiar about the person only then will you ask it: Even then, it can be though to ask. My grandpa took his war stories to his grave. Some of my uncles and neighbours spoke a bit about the time in the war, women are a bit more open about hardships of raising us in the basements, with limited supplies, etc. It is a trigger for many so we learned not to ask too much. I know my reply is a probably too late, but just in case someone else stumbles upon the comment...Museums in the war torn areas are your best bet for learning more about it. They either have an entire museum/memorial centre about it or there are specific displays about war in the area. I wouldn't count on personal testimonies too much.

😁😁😁 Mujo moved from BiH to Canada and started keeping a diary ... August 12. We moved into our new house in Canada. I'm so excited! It's so beautiful here! The mountains are beautiful. I can’t wait to see them covered in snow! October 14. Canada. It is the most beautiful country in the world! The leaves took on all those wonderful shades of yellow and orange. I drove through nature and saw a couple of deer. They are so graceful! These are the most beautiful animals in the world! This must be heaven. I love Canada. November 11. Remembrance Day (Canadian public holiday). Deer hunting will begin soon. I can't imagine anyone killing such a wonderful animal. I hope it snows soon! It's so wonderful. December 2. The first snow fell tonight. I got up and saw everything covered with a white blanket. It looks like the most beautiful postcard! We went outside, cleaned the stairs and the driveway and then huddled (I won!). When the rake passed we had to clean the gate again. What a wonderful country! I love Canada! December 12. It's snowing again tonight. The rake passed again and buried the gate. It's really beautiful here! December 19. Snow again tonight !! I couldn’t get the car to go to work. It’s really wonderful here, I’m just a little tired of shoveling. F**k rake again! December 22. This white shit was falling all night again. Got blisters from shoveling and my back hurts. This monkey with a rake seems to be hiding behind a corner and just waiting for me to clean in front of the gate. Idiot! December 25. HAPPY CHRISTMAS! A little more shitty snow. If I ever like the hand of this monkey driving a rake - I'll kill him! It bothers them that they don't sprinkle more salt on the road so that it melts sooner. December 27. It's snowing again tonight. I haven't been out for three days except clearing the snow whenever the rake passes. I can't go anywhere, the car is stuck in a snow hill in front of the gate. And it's cold! They say that another 30 centimeters of this shit will fall tonight. December 28. The prognosis was bad. It fell half a meter. If it continues like this, it won’t thaw until summer. The rake got stuck and that hoof came to me looking for a shovel. I told him I had already broken six shovels by cleaning that shit off the door he had loaded and I almost broke it off his head. January 4. I finally got out of the house! I went to the store to buy some food and when I came back I hit the deer with the car. $ 3,000 car damage. Those monsters need to be killed. They are everywhere! Why didn't the hunters kill them all this fall ?! May 3 I drove the car to the mechanic. It's amazing how rusty they are from the F**** salt they sprinkle everywhere. May 10 I'm moving to Florida !!!!! I've had enough! I can't imagine how someone normal can live in that F***** Canada. 😁😁😁

Um ... yes. We used bagged milk here a long time ago in Zagreb. We called them “žlundra” (a tough piece of meat that can’t be chewed). As an offset machinist in a printing house, we received a liter of milk per person for free in the "žlundra" every day during the "gablec". I drank it in hectoliters in my life ;-))

Another great video. Here are some differences I would like to add: 1) everyone is a larger size (hence the need for SUVs, large coffees & meal portions),....2) the way people dress to go outside (lack of style (PJs are ok to go to the bank) while in Croatia you don't go to your curb without makeup & heels....3)in Canada when you enter a store, you are greeted "hi how are you?" but that's it, while in Croatia, as soon as you enter, you haven't even seen the entire selection at the deli counter or where you have to order, and the person asks "Izvolte" and seems frustrated if you ask to "just look first".....4) refunds at stores. Here this is the norm, slowly very slowly it's beginning in Croatia but not yet the norm. I remember while we were on a Disney Cruise 14 day across the Atlantic, there was a Croatian working in the gift shop (lots of croatians work on cruise ships). During the last night on the cruise, I came to this gift shop Croatian employee with my new purchases I made within the 13 days on the cruise hoping to bring them home as gifts, but because they couldn't fit in my luggage, I asked her for a refund. Up until now, we chatted everyday but this time, she was so frustrated and said "You Americans (Canadians)---why do you buy when you want to return the items? and said other things in frustration. This shocked me that she had this attitude......5)"price matching" in Canada at grocery stores....While in Makarska I asked if there was price matching because Konzum offered the same item as the store I was in (not Konzum) a lower price...."can you price match?" They laughed and said "No way, go to Konzum and get it"...6)Parents in Canada feed their families packaged, prepared foods (anything quick) instead of cooking. Cooking is not the norm here...as quick meals are the priority instead of healthy meals.....7) rein checks at grocery and electronic stores for sale items....if something is on sale, and out of stock, a grocery store will issue a rein check valid for 14 days or 30 days so that you can get it for the sale price when it is in stock again......8)pizzas at most pizza places in Canada are not tasty but made with shortcuts and additives; Pizza is eaten (even if the piece of pizza is enormous) with our hands, while in Croatia it is tasty and with knife & fork/personal pizzas....9) Canadian grocery is not as delicious as in Croatia---for example, a tomato, an egg, bread, a chicken or veal, all taste almost plastic or tasteless here......9) you don't see children walking anywhere outside by themselves here in Canada. Every time we visited Croatia during summers, I was sure to send my daughter to the Konzum with a list of things to buy & money to teach independence. She went alone. Here? That's a huge no no, and frankly, children lose a lot when not given responsibilites and to go alone to the store, to visit a friend, etc......10)kids don't play outside in Canada during summers...where are they? This is one of the reasons we went to Croatia every summer since my daughter turned 4......11)there isn't the same respect for police officers in Canada as there is in Croatia......12) there is more theft in Canada---especially auto theft from people's homes, from stores,.....13) in grocery stores, our produce is written in "per pound" while at the cashier, you pay in "per kilogram". I have always asked why is this like this? Some stores are considerate and write both prices at the fruit & vegetable area, but most don't....why they do this, nobody knows, nobody can tell me as I ask managers, workers, everyone...how do we know we are paying the sale price for the item when it's in another unit? (so frustrating).......14) calling call centers (for internet, tv, phone, airline) you call by phone and someone in a 3rd country (India, Philippines, etc) answers the phone---Canada is not hiring its own people for the call centers......15)at the airport you are expected to arrive 3-4 hours before your flight if flying to the US or International, while in Zagreb, Split, Dubrovnik you just arrive 45min before and you are fine......16) during Covid (August 2020), we travelled on 3 airlines in one day with a HUGE difference in service: Croatia Airlines, LOT airlines then Air Canada. Both Croatia Airlines and LOT airlines had full service during the flights, with flight attendants polite and masked. Air Canada? The flight attendants stood in front while we were all seated, and threw us bags to catch in the air across the entire airplane (there were only 10 passengers, but still), as if we were playing baseball because they didn't want to catch Covid, and weren't require to do any work/service during the 6 hour flight from Toronto to Los Angeles. We didn't see them at all after the throwing of the tiny bag. What was in the bag? Mask, water bottle, hand sanitizer in a clear bag. No service, no flight attendants in sight for 6 hours. 17) Anyone who comes to visit, is shocked at what they actually see life is like here----very boring and monotonous that "no wonder one gains weight from the stress here" Yes, there is stress in Croatia, but it's different. 18) If you have money in Canada, you don't show you have it most times while in Croatia, even if you don't have money, you still manage to buy the latest fashions and look perfect. .....19) smoking: hardly anyone smokes here while in Croatia it's not frowned upon.....20) Emergency Room in Hospitals: In Canada you wait 12-18 hours to be seen, and treated as a patient while in Croatia, when I broke my leg, and was taken to Karlovac hospital, I was seen immediately. They even took an Xray immediately. In and out in an hour with a cast on my leg while in Canada I would wait hours hours hours. 21) donations---every time you check out at a cashier at grocery stores or Costco, you are asked if you want to donate to the hospital fund, to animal shelters, to this and that. ......22) our cars are all being eaten by salt ---they put too much salt on our roads for 5 months winter (Nov-April) of the year, and if you don't wash your car everyday the salt begins to eat away your vehicle.....23) we celebrate Christmas, and Easter with national holidays for all religions, but not everyone celebrates. We also have a day or two off for Government workers on Remembrance (Veterans') Day, but most people don't know why they have so many days off.....24) Everyone in Canada says "Excuse Me" or "Sorry" even if they didn't do anything to justify the need to say this.....25) when you purchase produce in grocery stores, you rarely know where it is from (if written it is in tiny tiny letters)......26) We don't have tellers in banks or government offices including post offices with plexiglass shields (excluding Covid). Also our bank doors open freely in and out, while in Croatia it is a timed release. These timed release doors should be in Canada as well...........27) in Canada everyone lines up naturally for everything, there isn't any swarming for items........28) you will never see anything for free on holidays as in Croatia when they serve fish for the community, or bean stew.....in Canada that is unheard of............29) coupons in grocery stores, and McDonalds points cards for free coffees in Canada......30) Credit Rating extremely important and taken seriously in Canada for paying bills on time, to obtain a mortgage for a house......31) in Canada most homes are bought with a mortgage as a first time buyer and not through inheritance as in Croatia.....There are so many more examples of Canada is different but this is enough
