As much as so many of the older events should never see the light of day again, I still think it would be cool, maybe for the 50th edition of WSM, to do a repeat of the events from the very first competition. All either modified to be both heavier and safer, or in the case of the more ridiculous things like bar bending, replaced with an event that is thematically similar and uses the same muscle groups.

  • @lukeroan1719

I don't think it'd be good for the 50th edition but I think it'd be cool to see some top strongman do the competition the same as it was or as close as possible but it should just be a fun thing. Would be a cool episode of The Strongest Man in History if it ever gets brought back

As you now know Loz, Megaman moved his shoulder inside his hand into a break arm position, which when combined with having a ref who didn't have a clue how to spot dangerous position led to that horrific break. It's such a bad position that we banned novices from doing it and would stop the match if it moved into the break arm position. But for armwars, it was anything goes as everyone knows what they're doing (Frode Haugland is a master of pulling from that position)

How about a practical farm show approach? In the 1920's, my grandfather in the Ukraine was said to be able to lift a cow on his back. A calf was born and he decided that he would lift the animal every day. As the calf grew bigger, he got stronger. In the end, when the animal grew to be full grown he could still lift her up! You could call it the Kurpita lift in his honor.

Arm wrestling, I fully agree on. Whilst long-term, Nathan Jones' injury might've turned out to be a blessing since he's done fairly well in acting, from the little that was seen of him until that arm break, I think he could've won a world title. He was like a proto-Hafthor almost. Gravel shovel and brick run were stupid too, fully agree. Also agree - certainly at anything remotely claiming to be serious, the primary-school-sports-day should never be a strong-man event. Unless it's just for fun, then absolutely. What about the wrist-roll? I feel like a good strength test, but I'm not sure how visually impressive it was, and tore a lot of hands to hell. - That said, personally, I'd like to see it again, even if just in a throw-back competition. Barrel/keg overhead is another visually impressive one that was always fun - though I do get that it's maybe not so good since different body types allow for better lock-out than others and so it's not the fairest. One thought with murder-ball. What about the globe thing, but just having to push it along a distance for time?

For me I'm highly on the edge of the about the wind walk event. The one where they held up a plastic (i think) panel and walked it against a jet engine wind. I don't even remember where or when it is from (probably wsm?) On the one hand it looked absolutely stupid. On the other hand if they made some sort of pushing apparatus on the rails so that it is more stable I absolutely would not mind seeing it again. Also that #1 spot must've been the birth of crossfit. And honestly would absolutely love some of the current strongmen try it, would be funny

I never liked the stone press or the block press. Always makes me nervous and someone always drops the stone on their head. The Arnolds in 2020, i think did this but they were able to press it away from them so it wasn't over head. Then Giants Live did it straight overhead and dudes were dropping it on their head.
