$10 DIY Valve Seat Vacuum Tester
Ғылым және технология
I just wanted to show how easy it is to make a valve seat vacuum tester instead of spending $100 on the actual adapter.
All you need is:
- A/C vacuum pump (mine is 1.8cfm rented from AutoZone)
- A/C gauges (got mine on Amazon; I think you can rent these too!)
- 1/4” Flare x 1/4” MIP union
- 1/2” thick piece of PVC/plexiglass (cut mine 3x3”)
- Sheet of rubber (got mine at Home Depot sold as 6x6 rubber packing sheet)
- construction adhesive or something to join the rubber to the plexiglass; also can use to create tight seal between adapter thread into plexi)

Bro I have been stressing about getting one, thanks for the info bud!

My pleasure! You're welcome
Thanks JavaTL, just what the Dr ordered🎯. It seems that once the vacuum is made , the valve can be shut on the a/c manifold and the timer started for the leak down reading...

Exactly!
Thx for the video. You've got the right concept, but for useful valve sealing measurements your rig requires several tweaks....The typical A/C 1 to 5 Cfm pump is Way too large & is Grossly over-pumping the typical 200 cc (0.01 cubic ft) cyl head Port Volume resulting in way high erroneous Hg vac readings on badly leaking valve seats....Obviously, this Requires a Much smaller (0.2 Cfm max) vac pump or a significant Orfice Restriction (0.020" diam) at the pump side of gauge.....The gauge Needs to be a Vac only 0 --30 Hg (0--1 Bar) scale type instead of the typical A/C Pressure--Vacuum manifold gauge.....A vacuum cutoff/isolating ball valve needs to be used to enable pump off vacuum Holding/Leak-up time rate for meaningful valve sealing performance evaluation....

Thanks for the comment! AutoZone does offer a hand vacuum pump rental which can be repurposed to do this same test too if you want much lower CFM.

@@javaTLI would have like to see your results, I just did a head gasket on my 2000 1NZFE and had mega carbon buildup on exhaust valves and top of pistons, I cleaned and polished the valves then did the lapping, wanted to play it safe and do the vac test prior to install even though it looks great, thanks again💯
