@@Zuthieus well, the 30mm guns they always tended to jam, also in the turns they used to break their wings, occasionally killing the pilot in the process. In addition, the plane needed concrete runways, which in the Germany of 44/45 were luxuries that were not always available, on the other hand the pilots had to be re-trained so they could fly jet planes, the me262.

@@Zuthieus And? Britain, Germany and the US experimented with jet engines since the 1920s, but in that time piston engines were way more efficient and safe. Anyway, the Me262 made its debut in 1944, the same year the British jet, the Gloster Meteor was in service, and 2 years prior the US had its first jet, the P-59.

A carrier Dauntless dive bomber shot down 3 Zeros that jumped it while on patrol duty towards the end of the Solomons Campaign. The rugged SBD could perform violent maneuvers that Zeros couldn't do due to structural weakness of the airframe. The USN pilot used his dive brakes to make real tight diving turns that made the Zeros fly past his rear gunner who placed shots into their sides before the fighter flew into the sights of the pilot who put some more into them. Their dog fights lasted 15 minutes with the SBD returning to its patrol as the last Zero fell towards the sea on fire. The USN took notes on how the pilot handled his aircraft to avoid being shot down then transferred him to a fighter squadron.

Messerschmitt me 262 has left the chat. Btw it was the first ever jet fighter plane ever produced in ww2 its 150 mph faster than any Americas fastest fighter plane at that time

The ME-262 was never mass produced so it was very ineffective to the the Allies and it was also made very late in the war and by that time it was a losing battle for the Germans. Not to mention since WW2 was mostly dogfighting the ME-262 couldn’t go it’s full speed if it wanted to hit targets so it went slower most of the time for actually fighting. It can evade fast and dodge, but when it comes to doing its job as a fighter jet it’s not very good at fighting. In total the ME-262 was basically a propeller-less plane that went fast.
