At the opposite end of the spectrum is the big retcon involving Hal Jordan's time as Parallax. Having him be controlled by the entity of the same name kinda ruins his redemption at the end of Final Night.

Kinda but not really, now rather than a psycho changing his mind it’s a hero overcoming the control of an evil entity. What it really ruins for me is his descent into madness

I won't lie I like this change. It makes the powers hers, instead of her and shazam being similar. Also makes her connection with the gods a lot more personal. Plus the Trinity is now made out of an Alien, a rich boy and a demigod, makes that dynamic great as well.

@@Druguzu The power would still come from the God that sired her. She would only have that because of her father. And whereas suface level, yes, the Greek pantheon blessing her with abilities is similar to Captain Marvel, he gets his abilities only in that form and it can be taken away. Her powers are innate to her, they cant be easily taken, and she has them at all times. Her being formed of clay also had her set apart from the other two of the Trinity and even the rest of the Amazons, they all had parents, but she was wholly herself, a creation of the gods and her "mother". She was essentially a female Adam or and Eve without an Adam, the first of her line.

But for me I like this, it gives her powers room to grow, also it makes sense in greek mythology, zues was making children constantly. And also, I just liked how it opened her world up, once that became her new origin, she had a lot more stories involving the gods, and not just the amazons or regular villains

I still prefer scarlet witch and quicksilver as mutants and the children of magneto

At the time of their appearance in the MCU Marvel/Disney didn't have the rights for 'mutants' (Sony did). So another origins had to be created for them. Pity MCU didn't simply waited until they acquired the rights then used them in the movies. That way the original origins could had stayed intact.

@@cheritripp9470 correction; Fox owned the rights to "X-Men" and "Mutants", not Sony. Sony has the rights to any Spider-Man related characters (which is why they can make movies for his villains: Venom, Morbius, Carnage)

@@cheritripp9470 Nope. I they're still owned by Sony, but shared with Marvel so they can keep making very profitable MCU movies. Which is why everyone from the Sony Spider-Man movies were back in MCU Spider-Man: No Way Home

@@cheritripp9470 They were also mutants in all the x men cartoons such as the 90s series, X men Evolution and Wolverine and the x men. BTW Fox had the movie rights to X men while Sony had Spiderman

i thought there was gonna be explanation on what made the retcons better, not just laying out how the character was retconned. Because Id say a couple of these entries are better before the retcon.

I didn't really understand where the retcon came in with some of these. I sounded like one continuous story with most.

Yes. Interesting article, but the author does not know what the definition of 'retcon' is. Just should have titled it something else. Some of them are just the evolution of the character over time, not a retcon OR a reboot.

They really kept going back to Bob Kane’s “Bat-Man” look. Zur En Ar, Jason Todd’s original look… I’m surprised there isn’t a current villain with that look.

Let's just say everything that came from New 52 era was awesome. The storylines were great, and I was so happy to see the 'underwear over the pants' look, gone at last. I really hated that look, so when I saw them removed in New 52, I was beyond happy with that decision.

When Moira dies the timeline gets reset to the moment of her birth and she retains all of her memories. However, if she dies before she gains her mutant powers than the timeline won't reset.

You show original Jason Todd in the thumbnail but completely skip over him in the video. Why?

One thing that's always bothered me (aside from the fact that Walmart sells Batman shampoo, but there's no Conditioner Gordon).. Why hasn't anyone ever questioned why Bruce Wayne always seems to have young teenage boys hanging around the Manor? Rich guy. Bunch of kids who aren't his. Parents nowhere in sight. 'Red Hood' Jason Todd should've never happened. That character only makes sense in the Batman universe as a villain, sadly DC editorial didn't have the balls to do that. They just wanted to use the Batman brand to push their own Punisher copycat.

I thought Recon means they introduced something then later abandon for something else to fit the story they are trying to tell. Here are just reboots

One reboot I hated was Heroes Reborn. Before Rob Liefeld took over Captain America, Mark Waid and Alex Ross has a great run on the comic bringing Captain America back to popularity.

Roy wasn't killed by Savitar in Sanctuary it was Wally west. Also, Moira didn't get resurrection powers in House of M, it was House and Powers of X.

I hate the retcon of Moira being a mutant.

They skipped over #7. There only 9 heroes listed.

Shouldn't Groot be on this list? He has changed a lot since his first adaptation.

The one massive Plot hole with Moira McTaggert is that she died in the Days Of Furure Past storyline. Shouldn't the universe have rebooted and she went back to being born again?

I don't see how these were improvements. Most of these made the character's continuity way overcomplicated. The only ones I would argue improved from changes were Captain Marvel and Winter Soldier. I'll say this any time the subject comes up: Jason Todd was more interesting when he was dead. Bringing him back was a disaster by mixing his return with Infinite Crisis, only made worse with every return appearance since then, for a major case of diminishing returns.

So wonder woman was replaced by a woman that can shout very loud ,haha is that real

I like the idea of captain marvel but i feel like in the mcu they botched her rather hard. Whats the point of having a superwoman if shes always "busy" like whats the point

The many retcon of Wonder Woman are decent to bad. Wonder Woman don't need to be a another Supergirl sugorate.

Marcus was the best thing to happen to ms. marvel. With the exception of Winter Solder, none of these retcons were good, as the original versions were much better.

Carol might disagree with you on that. 😕 I did like Chris Claremont's follow up of Avengers #200. Having the team realized that there clueless actions over Carol's sudden pregnancy cost them her friendship and trust. (I tend to think Marcus was mind controlling the team as well as Carol. Which is why they let her go with him with no protest)

Title of the video was very misleading. Improved??? I don't think so and comic sales would back me up.

Retconning Wonder Woman to be the child of Zeus did not improve her. Diana's original origin, being molded from clay and then given life by the Greek gods was a much better origin.

This list is just...bad. Over half the people on it gained nothing or lost character development due to the retcons. Power upgrades do not make a hero better. Cyborg alone was robbed of all his story and development just to put him in the JL. Carol and Scarlet Witch didn't change at all. Steward was robbed worse than Cyborg. Arsenal became boring. Wonder Woman just became a Superman parody.

MCU skipped all that backstory just to make a lame captain marvel movie. Wack

I'm glad Disney never tried to touch Mar-Vel. Just imagine him doing if cancer surrounded by friends and they undercut the dramatic moment with a bad joke because it's the MCU.
