And what people forget about the Big Bay Boom in San Diego is that the company that was hired to do the show made it good and later gave a free show that cost the same as what the city paid for the one that went bust. Kudos to that company for standing up for their mistake. Frankly, I think I'm one of the few of the can say I've seen such a spectacle. It was pretty awesome! And the replacement show was just as good, but took about 10 minutes instead of 10 seconds.

But the thing is, years later which show is more present in your mind? The ten second "mistake" or the 10 minute replacement? I mean, the video looked awesome. It must have been impressive and terrifying to see it life.

I guess it was better the second time around because the manager wasn't a coyote, and the boxes of fireworks didn't come from Acme Corp.
I was one of the Marine Rescue crews operating in Terrigal when the explosion happened and was first vessel on scene- and yes you could feel the shock wave as we was on an open RIB only 40 meters from the barge. We also rescued the two barge crew from the water.

I've not seen such an awesome cock up as that, I have seen one or two at a local Guy Fawkes display near me in Stevenage (Shithole that's only famous for being a shithole and that Lewis Hamilton comes from there, I live in a town 6 miles away. They do put on a decent annual display though). The first one was disturbingly comical, the display is set up on an island in the middle of a small lake. I was sitting on the bank next to the lake and something spooked some ducks on the water in front of me and they all took off, a few seconds later there was a quack, a bang and a half a roasted duck fell down next to me (no I did not eat it). The second though was truly dangerous, a rack of fireworks tipped over during the display and launched it's ordinance straight at us, the crowd, how nobody got seriously injured is beyond me. a few were taken off in ambulances but injuries were (thankfully) minor.
As a San Diegan, I can tell you that no one is "on edge" about the fireworks incident from 2012. We laughed about it when it happened and have mostly forgotten about it since then.

It is because they are lazy and they are not "filming." Where does the film go in a mobile phone? If they were using a film camera or dedicated video camera or dslr, the orientation would be landscape by default. The scary thing about the landslide at the tunnel works, disregarding the housing as that was empty, is the fact the spoil removed the forced ventilation and significantly blocked the tunnel opening. Risky for workers inside.

Smoking Transformer? Must've been a Decepticon because all the Autobots know that smoking is bad for you.
A couple of years back, a few hundred feet down my road (maybe a tenth of a mile) a tree fell across the power lines. It took out 3 telephone poles. One of them had a transformer on it. It exploded when it hit the ground. The only comparable sound I have heard was when lightning hit around 50 feet from where I was living at the time. It was that loud. The pressure wave was enough to shake my house a little bit.
