    You missed THE biggest mistake! Be comfortable on your board before learning ANY tricks. You have to be able to balance on your board and get good at pushing yourself around first. Riding the board around a parking lot should feel like second nature. THEN get to learning the Ollie. I see a lot of people making videos of themselves trying to learn to Ollie their second day on a board EVER and it is obvious they can't even stand on their board without falling over and can't push themselves around at all. Nice video!

  • @thomasgdawson

    @thomasgdawson

    For sure, that's very important and I should have mentioned that, making sure you're comfortable just cruising is way too often overlooked by beginners!

    I live on a hill. Everywhere around me for miles is hilly. Essentially, I’m a driveway flat ground skater with no flat ground. I’m learning to ride downhill because there is no place to learn ollies or anything. I’m trying to work with what I have, and there is an indoor skatepark a while from me, but my parents won’t let me go because they say that skating shouldn’t be taken seriously and it’s just a poor excuse of a child’s toy for teenagers. I was trying to explain why I needed to go somewhere with flatter ground to progress, and they pushed me away saying that if they take me anywhere I’ll want to jump off buildings with my board and kickflip down sets of stairs or just in general “fall”. Do you have any tips for overprotective parents?

  • @thomasgdawson

    @thomasgdawson

    4 жыл бұрын

    Explain to them that skating can have great benefits for your health and well being and now that skating is in the Olympics you can explain to them that skating is definitely a proper sport. Also explain to them that while skating involves doing some seemingly dangerous things, it's always calculated, you're not going to just start jumping down buildings with no training, you practise and work your way up :)

    Lol..say what is better Mom.Taking drugs or go skating..or skating is better as sitting all day Long in Front of my Computer or something like that.. I do not understand your parents sorry. My dad also Back then do not understand skateboarding but when he realized its better as doing stupid things somewhere and i take care of my self when i was skating he let me doing my Thing.But skateboarding is Not illegal Here in Austria like in the States.Maybe thats the real reason? I don't no. But live your dream also If your parents don't Like it.My opinion.

    My parents are over protective, it took a while to convince them to let me start skating. My dad helped me convince my mom but somethings you just gotta accept, it sucks but it’s better not to be disrespectful and get into a big argument over skating. It helps a lot if you tell them you’ll be using protection so you won’t get hurt badly. And everything has a risk, so I don’t think that’s a good reason for them not to let you

    Get rid of your parents as soon as possible. Don't let them dictate what you're supposed to be interested in. That's just not cool. How old are they? I am 41 and i would love to see my kids learn to skate and work on their craft. Your parents are probably very narrow minded.

    New to the channel, you do a great job explaining stuff and make great content from what I have seen so far. I liked how you mentioned that beginners need to learn how to fall or bail, I don’t think that it is really talked about enough. To me it is just as important as learning to push and just ride, if you can’t control your body and mind then how will you ever learn to control your board. Keep up the good work will definitely keep an eye out for new videos.

    I've never skated vans before but they should be good, just make sure they're from their skate range and that they're made of suede not canvas :)

    I started skating about 2-3 months ago. I have been to the skatepark a couple times, but there are always just scooters. In my country there is much more scooters, than skaters. I've wanted to learn tricks on a ramp, but always when i go there, the scooters come there. They always come in to my way even its my turn to drop in, it's really annoying. I would want to learn ramp tricks, but the scooters always come there. They giving me these weird dissapointed faces, when i fall or fail a trick. If you have any suggestions to solve my problem, i would be more than happy to hear it.

    Same where I live, my advice for that is to go at times when the scooters are least likely to be there - e.g. early morning can be a good time. Also feel free to tell the scooters to go away let you skate the obstacles because they should be waiting their turn, a lot of the time that will work

    I'm not too sure, it would either be the pivot cups or bushings, usually I think it's from bushings but it shouldn't affect your skating at all, happens to me sometimes as well but I don't really worry

I can can sometimes ollie when stationary, and rary, rary land it on the move. I have 7 hours under my belt, but the struggle is relearning how to ride. I ride goofy but do tricks regular
