The Mossberg Maverick 88 was the gun I chose to purchase the day I turned 18. I've shot it a lot and never had a malfunction, its standard finish has stood up pretty well, new shooters I'm introducing to guns love it, and it did all that while being incredibly affordable. Perfect entry-level shotgun, I definitely support its inclusion here.

I have an ancient "Westernfield" M500A which is just a Mossberg 500 branded for the old Montgomery Ward store. When I got it it had a slug barrel and a field forend. I had to replace the action bars as they were bent and I got an old Mav 88 barrel that someone let the last 8 inches or so rust. I ordered a corncob fore end, the action bars and a replacement metal safety from Gun Parts corp. I chopped the old Mav barrel down to 18.5 inches (measured on the gun) with a pipe cutter, mounted the internal parts, put the corncob fore end on and refinished the original beat-to-crap wood stock. I think my total cost for the gun came out to less than $200 and it's built exactly the way I want it.

It quit working some years back (the hard plastic buffer cracked) but I got a hard rubber buffer replacement for a couple of dollars on-line and fixed it. 17+1 rounds of fun! It's in bedroom gun locker loaded up right now. I can't even guess how many thousands of rounds me and my boys have put through that thing. I can't hardly miss with it.

I was broke, but I spent so much time doing research, and it was your original review years ago that made me decide to get it. Luckily, I never saw the person who threatened us again, but I've since put well over 10,000 rounds through that Taurus, and still carry it to this day. If you look inside the slide on the Security-380 and compare it to the original Security-9, you'll see they went ham on the mill work to reduce weight, far beyond just the cuts you see from the outside. It is noticeably lighter than the 9mm version, but still shoots a bit easier with the Diet-9.

Tim, papa from the foothills of the blue ridge mountains in NC wishing you well Again bought a rossi brawler 45colt/ 410 a few months ago. I love the pistol hate the back sight .put a aim point red dot on it but don't like the red dot bouncing around, hard for this older man to hold still. it's well made, strong lockup, fair trigger pull.not shot factory ammunition as I reload all my centerline. it to my understanding has a tampered rifling similar to a gain twist barrel. all loads I cronygraphed and was disappointed at speeds. most loads were 145-199 fps slower than printed data. but not to be out done with 44years reloading knowledge and experience I knew this pistol could handle a lot more chamber pressure than the colt 45 14,000psi. the following test data is for educational purposes only. don't use it because it can cause serious bodly injuries or death to you or bystanders .I'm not responsible if anyone uses this this is my private tests and more to come. my last tests a few days ago I used new starline 45colt brass, cfe pistol powder. 250gr hunter supply lrn-hp bullets. 9.8 gr powder 870 fps, 420 ft/ lb. 10.0 gr powder 964fps,516ft/lb.. 10.2 gr powder 1034 fps,591 ft/lb. 10.6 gr powder 1094 fps ,664 ft/lb . 11.0 gr powder 1132fps,771 ft/ lb. No pressure signs. i might bump it to 1200fps.thats far as I go . I also shoot 45acp lower velocity 750- 800 fps 230 gr lrn reloads. easiest way to shoot 45acp in this single shot 45colt is I went to local harbor freight and bought a box of metric nitrile o rings ,different sizes. I use size 8x2mm and 8.8x1.9 o - rings slid to back of loaded rounds in rim groove. it keeps 45acp from falling down in barrel and hold it in place. action will be slightly tighter to shut but no problems as it compress the o-rings to fit.asfar as election, it spits the emptys out. this is a big plus for me being able to shoot 45colt, 45acp, 410 because of the ammunition situation .I hope this educational information is of value to you. remember I'm not responsible for anyone using this educational purposes information. Papa 😊

Additional thoughts: The wife loves the Heritage Barkeep w/ interchangeable cylinders. I've seen the SDS Tisas 1911 on sale for about $305 although I payed $333. The NAA 22MC can had on sale for under $300. Although there are better options out there, you won't find a more concealable revolver than the NAA-22MC (except the NAA-22s). Albeit it's only good as a last line of defense with some well placed shots it's still better than a sharp stick.

Great Video! I had one of the first Tarus series and really had no problems so bought the newer G series and have never had a problem with it. They didn't have extended mags for it at the time but one of my Sig Mags fit it and worked fine. I think the 226. Anyway it probably one of the best values out there. I have had it and fired it for probably 10 years and have never had a malfunction that I can recall and it handles anything I put in it. I like it because it has second shot capabilities and I can practice with it using a laser strike bullet and laser targets. Keep in mind I have had 2 recalls with 2 sigs, my 320 and 365. Also had a recall with my TarusGX4 but is a good value and shoots well. I think the PSA Daggers are great value as well. The CZ is another great value firearm and have replaced my Sig 226 with a CZ P07 with Olight light laser at my bedside. One of my best shooting pistols I own. Forgot about the Hi Point carbine, the first cheap carbine I got and had fun with it but its a mess. But the Extar EP9 and Kelteck Sub 200 are great Values and work well. The Tarus Judge 410/45LC is a great value as well and I keep 45 LC's in it with a crimson trace grip on it. Very dependable. Wow! great time to be a gun buyer with all the affordable choices out there. Thanks for all the reviews. Love your work!!

I recently got a Stoeger STR-9c. I haven't had many guns in my life but it's mainly for home protection, at least until i learn more and feel comfortable with it, and also add a small backstrap to it. So far I have fired 1 (13 round) mag off out at a friends. 1st shot i got the dreaded thumb-bite lol!.. I had seen that on a vid too. I guess i had to learn the hard way... I would like to see you add this gun or even a STR-9SC to one of your review vids. I got mine at Academy and walked out with it, 1 mag, and a box of ammo for $350. Thanks man, I enjoyed this video and your commentary. Dennis 63 years Austin, TX

The Brawler is my favorite handgun to shoot. Its accurate and the way it throws the brass when you crack it open is just fun. I'm glad it made this list

Personally been carrying a PSA Dagger Compact for a while now. Even have one with the threaded barrel and RMR cut (came with 5/27 round mags) as my bedside gun.

Great list! PSA Dagger should be higher though. Ruger 10/22 was and still is one of my fav guns to shoot; got a Hightower Arms stock that turns it into a bullpup P90.

I had a Mossberg 500 combo in the Navy in San Diego mid 80s. 1st gun ever purchased.

The manual for the Rossi Brawler has a warning about shooting slugs. It states do not use slug ammunition and that slugs are unsafe in these guns. Most of the early reviews I have seen on the Brawler talk about running slugs, but for some reason it is not recommended by Rossi.

I cringe a little every time I see Garand Thumb putting Stingers through his Volquartsen pistol. The Volq warranty is voided if you put stingers through it (and yes, they can tell).

@@aronkovacs1386 It causes the pistol to break in a specific way, which is why they tell you not to shoot stingers in their pistols and why doing so voids the warranty.
