    I have been using Macs for over ten years and have loved them. I am now locked down for a bit due to the virus so have spent the last few days watching your videos. I guess I was using my Mac for about 5% of what it can do. I am a little embarrassed by all the things I didn't know. A big thank you.

    Dear Gary, you make me, a silver server, have that feeling of an inadequate student, when all around Are all so savvy. A humility which reminds me of early years in college. A good thing. To know, one will never be a polymath. And as the ancient Greeks told us; we discover more Through humility, than pomposity...

    I've always depended on Disk Utility. It a great tool. My wife was a big fan of Stickies. Font Book is in my Dock along with Automator, Script Editor and the Terminal. I have the last MacBook Pro with an internal DVD drive. The DVD Player app used to always be in the Utilities folder but it isn't anymore. A Spotlight search wouldn't reveal it. I had to set the disk insert action in System Preferences to have it automatically launch DVD Player to coax it out of hiding. Once it was running I put it in the Dock where I can find it again if I need it.

    This works in most apps, not just Finder. Let’s say you have a file open. Cmd+click on the proxy icon (yes, that’s what it’s called) allows you to see where the file is located. AFAIK macOS is the only operating system that allows you to do that, which is crazy. It’s incredibly useful.

    Hello, Gary. I very much enjoy your informative material on the ‘You Tube It’ web site. Some things don’t quite translate from American English into British English. For example, where you say ‘app’ (application?) I would probably say programme. Despite these very small language differences, I have learned enormous amounts about my Apple manufactured devices so thank you for your work and your very clear explanations. I have become a ‘You Tube It’ subscriber of your excellent channel.

    You are definitely running an older version of macOS if you have a 2011. That's why you don't see the newer apps. You can't upgrade the graphics card in an iMac. Even if you could, it is the model of Mac, not the specs, that determine which version of macOS you can install.

    macmostvideo, questions: if I have an older Mac that has the hard drive changed to a SSD drive say about 3 years ago. 1:Why won't it upgrade to the newest operating software for Mac? It keeps saying not enough space on drive, so I wiped and deleted it still this same issue. 2: can a Mac once wiped clean with 7 delta wipe with no backup's or cloud in use be recovered say with disk drill app? 3: can a wipe clean delete and reinstall remove all spyware/viruses from my Mac? 4: can you do a how to do video on all these things? I don't have the original software operating reinstall disk anymore. I think it was the one or two before the Lion one. Help me please!

  • @macmost

    @macmost

    3 жыл бұрын

    Requirements for macOS versions are based on the model, not the details like hard drive type. Not sure why you are getting a not enough space message. Hard to diagnose from afar. I've never used "disk drill" so I can't say. But you can use Internet Recovery to reinstall macOS. (No need for a 7 delta wipe on an SSD BTW). A wipe will delete everything, so if you have malware it will delete that too. See kzread.info/dash/bejne/oZOFtqmwmK2plKg.html

    Related to the dictionary app, what I often use is force touching on a word with the trackpad, either on a laptop or with the magic trackpad, and getting a quick view of meaning, and especially thesaurus. This comes through clutch when writing. You can also set it up to display dictionaries in other languages, so my wife uses force touch on her laptop to quickly translate words in her native language.

I refused to use the methods on KZread that require a download whether it was free or for purchase. My paranoia about these anti-adware programs is that they were created by the same people that came up with the fix. That's just me and my paranoidal bewares and cautions that haunt me. Most of this is useless to me, how about finding out why my 62 K emails have turned up back in my inbox from a previous edition! Mojave. They were gone for ages but have now turned up in the latest and greatest version of Mac since i upgraded. WTF!! If you don't know you tell them folks at Mail to message me so we can have a chat...Please.
