10 Affordable Watches Watch Snobs CAN'T HATE.
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
The inception of watch snobbery can be dated right back to the 1970's with aid of the quartz evolution and the fact people could afford watches that told the time more accurately than the high end watch makers watches,
Here I bring you 10 affordable watches watch snobs can't hate because not only do they have iconic status they are just..... well..... great!

I think all watch enthusiasts should respect anyone who actually chooses to wear a proper watch (ie, not a computer linked to a phone) there aren't many of us left.

There is nothing wrong with smart watches. It's still a scientific measurement of time. Most of us don't need a watch. I have way too many and wear them more like a personal expression of my mood and personality, like a jewellery. I wear a Samsung watch when I walk my dog because I don't want to check my phone or scratch my dog with a steel watch. Yes I don't mind scratching my watch but not scratching my dog. Watch wearers should stop hating on smart watch wearers.
I know Tissot Prx is mentioned ad nauseam lately but I've actually picked my Ice Blue version 2 days ago. Got the call from my local boutique and splurged 745 euros. It was my 40th anniversary gift from myself. I've actually picked it up wearing my Casio a168w on which i was proudly wearing. Loving the PRX actually, it's a incredible watch. Looks and feels like 5 times the price I've paid. Incredible accurate and such a beauty.

I think Tissot has a great range to start off. The Swissmatic V8 series are really nice. Well made and nicely designed. I like Hamilton, too.

You can’t beat Tissot for $$$, especially the quartz. Very high quality Swiss quartz, great designs & sapphire crystal.
@plektosgaming

@@ryanjofre Agreed. In this segment, it really is a nice small bump up from Seiko (plus different looks/not everyone has one). Mine keeps excellent time and as an actual timepiece, stomps on the rest of the cheaper stuff. 2-3 seconds a day isn't "accurate" for a quartz watch, but a lot of the cheaper ones are just off by a couple of minutes after several months. This.. about a second a week, at most. Not Rolex, but what is... I just checked mine - 4 seconds fast after 3 months. That I can live with. :) Of note, previous ones were a second or so a week, this quartz one is a little better/newer and seems to basically need to be reset every few months. And, yes, the quartz are more accurate than the automatics if keeping accurate time on a budget is a thing.

Swissmatic V8 = Great value for money Swiss watch 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
Good list. I decided to concentrate on a couple of classics as the mainstay of my collection: -A couple of premium square G-shocks (GMW-B5000D and GW-5000) -a Seiko Arnie SNJ025 -and a Citizen NY0040. All very enjoyable watches!
@CaptainLeftHook

Very good list. I also have the GW-5000U-1 and the Seiko Arnie SNJ025 (among many other watches). Arnie could possibly be my all time favorite watch. It just has one downside. It lacks a coundown timer.

I'm about to pull the trigger on my 5th NY0040. I keep buying and selling them but I now realise, I cannot live without it. Shame it has a noisy rotor, but for the price point, it can be accepted!
I remember watch snobbery being out into perspective when I was 18 years old, around 30 years ago. We had a manager at work who walked around wearing a gold Rolex shoving it under the nose of anyone wearing a watch... I used to wear my AE90W (I think it was) and over he came with the Rolex backed up with a comment like "If you work hard enough, you might own one of these one day!". Little did he know that at that time I'd been helping his wife out with a small hemorrhoid issue she was having for about three months prior to him being appointed as my manager. It always stuck with me that Watch snobs, or snobs in general, who think they have it all need to stop once in a while and double check who's rodding the soil stack whilst they're being dicks..... Jesus, she'd be 65 now Lol.

Orient, Citizen, Ball, just to name a few other brands that might meet the criteria. Great video. Thank you.
I would add the Tissot Gentleman to that list for the lower end and a Nomos Club Campus for the higher end. Both serious value for money. 😎👍🏼
This was my answer to a watch snob recently - he said "oh, I see you are wearing a fake rolex sub mariner" I said "no, I'm wearing a genuine invicta pro diver".......nuff said. A bit of history, rolex started in London in 1908. The rolex name was used from 1912. Invicta started in 1837 in yodel land.

Fantastic video MWC, as always! Life is far too short to snobbery, and (more importantly) letting someone else's snobbery bring you down. For the most part, no one cares what watch you wear, so wear what you want and as you said, "like what you love." At one point my whole small collection of watches was Casio/G-Shock, but I've since added other military or military inspired watches into my 5 piece collection. Its what works for me. But if that's not the case for others, great! The only advice I like to give people is don't have a smart watch as your only watch. Slow down and enjoy the simplicity of time without notifications. Even if only from time to time =)

Great video as usual. I really appreciate how you quickly explained what the term horology really, really means. It simply just doesn't come down only to wrist worn clocks, aka watches. No matter how some people use that term when bragging about expensive luxury watches. Great list, I personally might've switch the Casio Calculator to the Casio Royale, but that's just me.
Love the Bulova Lunar Pilot here, I would have also included the CWC SBS Diver I haven’t been able to take it off my wrist for 2 weeks. It’s Quartz so that may be an issue for some. It doesn’t get enough love.
When I think about it, I have had quite a few watches so I must be a watch fan. Three Seikos, one Sekonda (I was a kid), one Mondaine, one Wenger (expensive rubbish), one Timberland fashion watch (fantastic value and did the job as a daily beater for years), one Oris Big Crown (gave it to my son), one Tag Heuer (very much of its time - the 1980s) and a Baum et Mercier for the evening (although I need glasses to read the dial after sunset..). The new daily beater is a Seiko SKX and honestly, it looks great and does the job. Even though it is a daily, I still take it off sometimes to avoid unnecessary damage. Maybe I need a Casio when angle grinding...
I bought a Zelos Mako with aventurine dial. I don't just like it, it makes summer days better. Staying in the sun and watching that dial thru the AR coated glass is pure joy. I'm in the process of switching to microbrands.
Great video again mate. Very entertaining and your usual high standard of editing. Love the list. Keep up the brilliant work.

I'm a huge fan of watches. If I had the disposable income I'd have everything from a 10 quid F91 to a Grand Seiko. Incidentally, speaking of 80s memorabilia (Knight rider) no-one ever talks about Doc Emmett Brown's watches in back to the future. He wears one on each wrist in both the 80s and 50s scenes and they're dead cool.
Content and delivery are GREAT!! No one can "Have a go" at that! This show was a delight, Mate!
Been wearing my F91 and loving it. My solar square on a NATO. Could do with a Hannu. I still love my SRP777 and got it on now. I need a smaller Bulova moon watch 38-40mm. The 60th anniversary version is gorgeous. I had a radio watch at school, got a fresh coloured ear piece, told the teachers it was a hearing aid, got away with listening to capital radio during class. I think I got it from Argos.
Let me tell you what my wife said...who the heck is that! That's the Mad Watch Collector. He does a real good job reviewing watches. I enjoy watching him.
Great video! I have almost 40 watches and the one that get most attention is not my most expensive one but the casio databank. Awesome watch 👍
Nowdays watch snobs come in all sizes and variations: Classic snob, reverse watch snob, Casio snob, Seiko snob, affordable watches snob, microbrand snob, the list just goes on and on 😂😂😂

I don't even know when i bought my Seiko Monster as the original EBAY email disappeared with my LYCOS account. But they were only manufactured until 2008. The lume is still great and it's as (in)accurate as it ever was. Made in Malaysia pre Chinese Seiko days and everything lines up as it should. Think I'm going to stick with it.

Wow, superb video, this went above and beyond a review. I enjoyed very much the history clips, ty.
great list, fun video. you've really grown on me, mwc. i got the atomic clock square and love it!
Ooh, Russ, you're on something of a hot streak the last few weeks, including this one. Great picks here (totally caught me off-guard with the Knight Rider watch). And, yep, snobbery can cut both ways.
At this moment, I totally got the Vostok bug (just received a Komandirskie 650539 GMT this morning, such a beauty on a leather strap) , but my next will be a Casioak, I just love it
My hanowa hans noll has more than held its own with watch snobs sporting everything from a rolex to limited edition tags.... i saw it in a jewelers window and instantly fell in love with it. Tried it on and knew there and then it had to be mine
My boss and mentor is an old guy. Wears a Rolex Day Date he bought before the quartz crisis. Only cost him $300 then. Still runs like a top. He said that's when the price of mechanical watches soared.

Fun you should mention these! I own a CA-53, two G-Shocks (even though they're not DW-5600s), a Hamilton Khaki King, a Lunar Pilot and a Seagull 1963. Unknowingly I've been collecting a substantial portion of your list 😅
The $22 Casio A168 has the top notch EL illumination, and in chromed resin with a steel band, it'll do for dressy occasions, if all your pricier watches look like sports chonkers. On the black plastic side, I think the W800 manages to feel higher-quality than similarly priced Casio models, more solid than anything short of a G-Shock. Just a few thoughts.
Thank you for your personality sir. It actually cheers me up listening to you every day. Friendship confirmed
Fun video! I have both the Bulova Moon Watch and the Seagull 1963, both solid watches. In fact, this video has me swapping watches right now; the Seagull needs some more wrist time! 🙂
Gosh! Ive had from Omega to Longines, Tag, Breitling, top end Seiko, However the cheaper watches i have had and have G shock, Lorus, Seiko 5 , Tissot and Timex, i have always appreciated them more because your expectations are not as high, Had a Seamaster that cost 5k and it had hairs wrapped around the hands, from reputable dealer. My Seiko's have always impressed, Lorus can be excellent and as for Casio G-Shock, they make a mockery of expensive luxury watches! Great video MWC! As ever ❤

Generally we are all respectful of each others collections. Personally I absolutely love seeing a vast array of watches no matter what the cost or quality. Great vid my friend loved it
The Bulova prototype that Commander David Scott wore during Apollo 15 was a failed attempt by Bulova to win the NASA contract that ended up going to Omega, and so was built to the same NASA specifications that the Speedmaster Professional was. It was gifted to Scott by Bulova, probably hoping exactly what happened did. So the fact that it ended up on the moon and already looked like a Speedmaster does actually make sense.

You forgot the Citizen Promaster Aqualand JP2000. Cult material from the 80ies and still selling. Especially worn with a Nato strap. Original 80ies ones now gracing collections.
My collection of five pieces is rather humble compared to many. Only collecting a few years now, I have encountered the watch snobbery as I am one to strike up conversation with other fellows I see wearing watches. All of mine have come from pawn shops, and I did the math yesterday and found I'm only in $640, one SEIKO, two CITIZEN, one BULOVA and a trusty $50 TIMEX. The CITIZEN radio- controlled consistently reads the same as my smart phone, as it should. The other eco-drive is a titanium body and strap and is also surprisingly accurate. The BULOVA, which is most recent purchase, an ACCUTRON Snorkel II cost me $75, and after battery and sizing I'm only into for about $115. The jeweler told me I did quite well. So far it's not lost any time. The SEIKO 5 automatic is a green, military looking knock off of the HAMILTON, I've added a nice leather strap to it which makes it worth about $180, but looks far more valuable. This brings me to the humble TIMEX. I set this watch a few years ago and it doesn't seem to have lost 50 seconds. I removed its strap and mounted it to the handlebars of my commuter bike for winter riding. This way I don't need to mess with mittens and long parka sleeves to check the time. I always look appropriate for whatever occasion.
Oscar Wilde wrote in his work Lady Windermere's Fan that a snobbish character knew the price of everything and the value of nothing.

I have 31 Casio watches priced from $80 to $275. I do have a $400 Frogman. I love solar/atomic Casio watches, usually I love digital but I do love a dual digital/analog display. What I’m hoping for someday is for Casio to make a solar/atomic watch with digital hour, minute and second hands and a readout digital display below. They have a watch with digital hands but it’s neither solar nor atomic and that’s disappointing

Good list and all good points. I'm not sure if any watch is totally snob proof...watches are so personal. I've got my own tastes and preferences, which may be different from other people's. I always try to be encouraging in person, when I'm talking with people about their watches. You don't want to be that jerk that bags out some guy's dead grandfathers watch, or the 19 year old kid who saved up for 3 months to buy a Daniel Wellington, because he started liking watches and he thought it looked cool. Longines are great for sure, and as a Rado owner and fan, I'm used to being on the receiving end of the snob blow-torch....lol

I lost the count of how many Casio I have, but if I had to choose one with a peculiar design, and it's not a square, I'll say a Casio GW-056 (it was worn in Avatar I, just for reference), a brilliant work for me! It was the thinnest G, but they dropped the project, a pity if I can say it. Then, moving to Bulova, why not the Accutron too? Who cannot love a diapason watch? 😍 The rest of the selection is brilliant for sure. 😊 Oh, wait, the knight rider watch didn't have the FM radio, noooooo! 😮💨

Bulova Lunar Pilot for the win! My new 43mm even has some of my Omega Speedmaster friends envious and dashing to acquire one. Just know, if you have a little girlie ~6" wrist, you need to get to the gym and bulk up before attempting one. :-) I adore AP's Royal Oak or any number of Vacheron's, but ultimately all high end watches are a product of marketing and the creation of an mental image that feeds people's egos. In the end, the primary use of a watch has always been to tell time, and a $50 Casio DW-5600 will always be more accurate than a Vacheron or Rolex mechanical, but it won't do anything to feed your ego.
I agree with you on Hamilton’s, when I see and hear all the praise for the Patek nautilus and the AP royal oak being such great designs, I don’t get it because the Elvis 80 makes both those watches look the some Soviet brutalist designed parking garage next it’s style and design.
Just came across your channel. Awesome stuff mate
