The SV Is king and with a full exhaust and tune it makes more HP than mt07 and doesn't fall off at redline. The full exhaust and tune transforms the bike. The handling on the SV is like nothing else in the class.

A very comprehensive review - thank you. I purchased a used 2018 model SV 3 weeks ago, and have thoroughly enjoyed the first 600 miles I've done on it. Changes made: heavier fork oil (15w) and stiffer springs (0.95). Aftermarket Nitron shock sprung for my weight. Pillion pegs removed, and Valtermoto hanger added. Just ordered a Fuel exhaust silencer. That's everything I need. Previously owned a gen 2 SV650S that I did 8,000 miles on and loved. Only changed bike as I want a fully upright bike now. I find it interesting that after 20+ years of riding, and 20+ bikes (including Honda SP1, SP2, Fireblades, CBR600s, MT09, ZX9r etc etc) a SV650 is my preferred choice. There's just something about them! Greetings from Manchester, England.

Manchester is a great place to be from, had a great time there 5 years back. Yes, my tracer has spoiled me for cruise control, but if that gets sorted. The sv is really perfect, from small bikes to later bikes, something about a 650 is just right. I actually have a video about bike size and bigger not being better if you wanna look for that one. I picked up a '99 SV with 32,000 miles for fun mechanical project challenges and have replaced various seals, other parts, I raised the seat 3" The basic design is pretty solid. Just finishing up the forks. Just want to say I enjoyed this review, admire your fluency, Love Japan, traditional woodworking at the top of a very long list. Love from Vermont.

Hi! I got a SV because of you! I was looking for 650 class bike, my choices were the ninja 650, mt07/xsr700, cb650r and lastly the SV. As per my experience when i rode the bikes, the ninja was too common on the road and the tingly feeling on my hands at 4k rpms, tech was good and the overall package was good. the xsr700 engine was a gem but the suspension was too squishy and it feels that you ride like a "sportier" cruiser. cb650r was a blast to ride at high speed, nice sound, but at city traffic it becomes boring and you have to rev it out, the SV was a surprise because it looks better in person than in photos or videos, the 160 tires doesnt look so skinny, it looks more 180ish than 160s, the torque I like from the xsr is there and the sportier and viceral feel and sound, and the price, it was a steal. Loving the SV now, the missing tech don't bother me at all, easier to maintain and less problems to worry about when something arises. 😀

It's very minimal, but we also park outside in Tokyo where the weather went front 38c to typhoon in 3 days. So might be a problem here. But never hurts to check your bike and have an excuse to wash it

@@grahamn311 oh.... salt.... wash your bike as often as possible in the winter and till the spring rains have cleaned the winter salt. But the sea being so close will do you know favors. If you are local you know, otherwise ask the locals and look at how rust seems to be going on there vehicles

@@kairyurider Yea I had some difficulty with cheap chrome parts rusting really quickly a few years back on an old Honda Cb400 of mine. Keeping it tucked away and washing regularly (like you say) is the best I can do, I reckon.

Greeat vid. I have a 2021 sv650 with 4000 km mileage. Just changed to TKC70 front and rear tires recently. Butt I can only get 23.5 km/liter with the TKC70. Got 24.5 km/liter with stock tires. Mostly ride in the 4000-5500 rpm range.

Great video, with lots of good info on the SV. Although tall in the saddle, the Triumph Tiger Sport 660 entered the market earlier this year, and gets a lot of praise from journalists/testers. Question: Why are some sections of the roadway painted brown? Thanks in advance.

I actually have a review of the trident if you scroll to my oldest videos, I think it’s 3rd. I then preceded to buy a street triple, forgive me fore not getting into specific but it will make sense why I didn’t keep it if you watch: kzread.info/head/PLECZcAA7wjOfDxkRfoDor4P0i55wCKbbG As for the tiger 660. That’s more a compare to the vstrom/versys/tracer7(not sold in Japan) than it is the sv. But unlike the others it is ride by wire and being a touring bike in a brand new 2022 without cruise control…. Big miss. But again, see the street triple play list for details, however I’ll not be giving triumph any more of my money… probably the rest of my life….. But if you like it better than the Japanese bikes, go for it, on paper it’s maybe the best… on paper. The red and brown paint is extra grippy tarmac for A, safety in the mountain bends come winter, and B, the real reason, stop street racers from drifting. “Tokyo drift” is pretty close to a documentary 🤣🤣🤣

I have the same bike, you can opt for rok straps and use the triangle thingy on the passenger foot pegs to use whatever backpack you have. It's easier to mount than the aliexpress kemimoto bag,

Got my license with an sv650 and when did was looking and feeling damn fast. Unfortunately I couldn't buy one as I already had a scooter on finance and decided to buy one cheaper of which ER6F 2011, I loved it and felt faster than sv650, and 6 months ago decided to go to the dealership that bought the scooter the pcx125 I paid of and I had an offer as well as when saw the sv650 triggered me memories when got my license and I bought it. For some reason except the fact that there's tinkling noise coming from the cylinder and that dealership said those type of engines specifically sv's tent to be noise as engine sound and I Kinda regretting it after all. Now it doesn't feel fast or so good as when first jumped on it. Guys always test ride before buying a bike.

6 month that I got my licence and I gave 6500km to my brand new Sv… To tell you how much I love this bike XD… Regarding what you and your wife think of it, I totally agree with you !

I love mine, last weekend i did 550 km roundtrip in good quality highway and is just awesome, half on saturday then back on sunday, I maintained an average over 140km/h and 180+ km/h on the straight parts like it was nothing, after I arrived back home tired as hell the bike seem unbothered like looking back at me and telling me: you puny human, i could do this for a month straight every day. I wouldn't change it for anything, if i was given a 1000cc bike i would trade it back for this one, i love that it can reach illegal speeds, but the moment you let go of the throttle you are back on legality, i rode a 1000cc bike once and it only seemed to know warp speed, very dangerous when you combine the highways in my country where you can have perfect straight road for 30km then very twisty highways that you shouldn't do more than 110 on them (legally 80 max). I have a 2021 SV650x.

It's an ideal bike. My tracer 900 is definitely a lot, even now that I'm used to it, I Cana just control it, I can't use all of it. I like that I can use 650s to the fullest. Bikes are fun at their limit, scary at yours.

I’m looking to upgrade from my z400 for all year commuting. Seriously if Suzuki just gave the sv650 and electronics package update with cruise control, traction control, and heated grips I’d be all over it. For now I’m considering either the motoguzzi v85tt travel or the aprilia tuono 660; but their poor track record on reliability, and my 1k miles/month commuting is holding me back..(cmonnnn Suzuki!!😢)

Heated grips are an extra you can get. And this company makes an aftermarket cruise for the vstrom 650 that you might be able to retro fit to the sv. www.mccruise.com/ I know they have one for the mt07

Sadly 2023 will be the last year of SV650 production as I am given to understand. It's a great bike and fantastic value. Suzuki's philosophy is solid. They did similarly same with their fabulous VJ21 RGV250 over ten years rendering it available and still in evolving long after the disappearance of the NSR, KR-1S and TZR in international dealer export markets. Suzuki started in 1988 with the RGV250K and ended with the VJ22 RGV250T in 1998 (final international unrestricted power export model. Wikipedia is wrong on the 1996 year as it is on so many things.). VJ23 was road power restricted, and limited to the Japanese domestic market.

What are the handlebar guards u brought they look basic and literally soo perfect for what I’m looking for and do u recommend any other mirrors than stock because I don’t know how I feel about them tbh as I own the same mode of sv650 also great video !

Hand guards: I bout them 5 years ago in USA on Amazon, I can’t tell you what they are, they were just the cheapest😅 they still have similar things I’m sure if you look. Sure, according to suzuki japan. The breaks are not 2 pot in the front instead of 1. It has the system of the 650x more or less. Efficiency is better. Emissions are much lower. And color is different. If you don't care about those things, get a used 2016. But if you really care, wait till spring because the sv650 is getting replaced. Lots of spilyshots and a 700 (similar to mt07) twin has been in rnd with suzuki for 1 years, been seen on the "leaked" new v-strom 650

I have an MT07 I daily here in the States. 0 complaints. However, I am looking to get something better suited for frequent 300+ mile treks. I am looking at a T7, a Tracer, or a V Strom 650. Do all the things you like about the SV carry over to the V Strom, or would you recommend just paying the extra money for the Tracer or even T7?

I have the 2020 tracer 900gt, plenty of videos you can see. I had a 2012 vstrom 650. At the heart it's a sv, but the weight is more, but comfort and distance wise it's great. T7 is not close in comfort and sacrifices a lot on the road for the off road My vstrom was bought used as a former rental bike and the maintenance became worth more than the bike. But if you are buying a good used or new, it will never let you down, I loved it. But check out my tracer videos for sure

Besides the brakes and colors, what do you think has changed between my 2017 SV650 and the 2021? I wonder if they've changed the fuel maps, and if so, could I flash my ecu with 2021 maps? But I've heard rumors of a power reduction to appease Euro5 for the 2021/2022 models.

That’s it, breaks color and euro 5. According to Suzuki japans website there was no power loss. But I’m also not a good enough rider to see 1 hp and 0.5 torque up or down, I do notice the breaks though

For sure, but at this rate I think I’ll get there on my bike much sooner. I had almost 70,000 on my 2012 vstrom 650, and other than 2 couch plate it was fine, first 50,000 were owned by a rental company so I’d say pretty good

But maybe ride the bike first, or atheist sit on it, you may not need them. My wife is 164cm and is fine without risers even on a 8hr day.

You can’t do wheelies on an SV. They starve the engine of oil and damage it

My understanding is that was true for carbonated svs and the Gladius. The new systems from 2014 Gladius to current oil pump is fine. I've seen plenty of people doing them trouble free. But as always everything at owners risk

I wonder if he knows this is going to be replaced with a P2 bike... I liked my GS500.

@@kairyurider The new bike is something completely different. Spy shots of bikes resembling parallel SV and DL made the rounds a few weeks ago. Suzuki has been working on midsize parallel twin for years now. Whenever those bikes are released, they will continue selling the 650 V bikes until sufficient stock is run down. Even the new color combos are shufflings of parts and paint they already had.

@@hahdwerk596 yes, I know that. That's more or less what I said. According to suzuki japan, the sv production is continuing as long as people are buying. Suzuki only has the 2 midsized bikes so as of Now this parallels with be extra choices. But I'm not about to pretend I know the inner workings of suzuki after seeing a few popular youtubers guessing what low resolution spy shots mean.

@@RyaNewGame I own a Sv650x for about 9 months now and it certainly is great for twisty and windy roads. The bike goes up to 200kph pretty easily but it struggles to gain any speed after 210kph. So considering what the cb gives id choose the sv over it any day of the week

@@RyaNewGame wife wife still likes 2 up riding and I like cruise control. Triples make me smile, I have a playlist on my 660 street triple I had before this tracer. For you, understand the sv has better fuel economy and lower torque. But Honda has a more premium feel, sv isn’t cheap like mt, but it’s no cb. Either way you’ll need a better seat or bell pad anything past 1:30-2 hours.
