This is very cool, the graphics are really good and so are the animations. especially since you are just one person, and this is your first project. This is definitely something to be proud of, good luck with the future of this project and any others you decide to venture in.

Right, I made those videos private once the KZread COPPA restrictions were implemented. The COPPA situation turned out to be not as bad as everyone thought, so maybe I'll make these videos public again in the future. That's a lot for your first game in one year. I started learning unity 4 years ago but still haven't made any game of my own. Your progress is really impressive. How did you make such a beautiful art? Any tips for me?
@ThinkCitric
4 жыл бұрын
I've drawn the concept art myself, and then hired a freelance artist to create digital drawings because I didn't know how to draw in Photoshop. She did it better that I could've even done myself, that saved me a lot of time and it didn't cost much. So paying someone for a custom art is really an option, you have plenty of freelances on Fiverr that will be happy to draw characters for you. And there are also tons of free assets on Unity Asset Store or other websites that you can use in your project or for prototyping. That also saves a lot of time and headache. Best of luck with your project! :)

Damn I too started my game dev journey back in 2018, somewhere around early October or maybe very end of September, I guess 2nd October if I'm correct. But nevertheless, after watching your video I am kinda jealous that you were able to do so much within a year. I think I am pretty good in many things except art, and I must say I really liked the way you showed how you created all these animations. Great video. And yeah when will the game be released ?
@ThinkCitric
4 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much, and first of all - best of luck with your project! :) I've left my day job last year and dedicated my full time to this project, this is how I could make a nice progress in 1 year. If you've working, please don't do what I did - this is reckless and dangerous, I've spend almost all my savings by now, and this is a miracle that I'm still hanging on with no income. Regarding the art - please don't let it stop you! When I started I thought of creating the art myself, but my drawing skills were good only with paper and pencil, I didn't know how to draw in Photoshop, Illustrator, etc. So I've drawn the concept art on paper, and hired a freelance artist to create digital characters from it. She's done it better and faster that I could've ever done myself, and it didn't cost much. I wish I had the money to hire her full time! :) Then I've animated the art - this is something that I really wanted to do myself, as well as coding. Anyway, what I'm trying to say is if you don't know how to create art - just hire a freelancer that knows, and he/she will make a custom art for you. Fiverr is a great platform to find one. Just make sure that the rights for commercial use are yours. Again, best of luck! :)

@@ThinkCitric That's a great advice. But as of now I guess I myself don't have money to hire someone lol. Also at the moment I am working on smaller projects. I have before made a game which took me about 6 months, but because it was my final college semester during those times, I wasn't able to do much. And in the end I wanted to start with something new, but nevertheless I was able to finish it. So I am thinking that I will be concentrating on bigger projects after sometime. And yes all the best for your project, take your time and keep making progress like you're doing it 👍
Teally like your style.

Wacom Intuos S, small but powerful. Does everything you need to start drawing.
It might just be me but the first concept seams a bit simple. Like it is just a plaformer with combat right ? But on the other hand the graphics are great and you have something super polished. Something just a bit different in the very first concept would make the all thing much more unique. Like for exemple, you can cut parts of the enemies since they are vegetables. And the cut is based on a kind of dash like in Katana ZERO. And for the big ones you might need more cuts, on important parts. Well it's just an idea but it could make it different
@ThinkCitric
3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your feedback! Yeah, cutting stuff is fun and I'm in process of implementing it. :) This was just a 1-year progress video, and by now I've done more. Like, right now each cut is veeeery juicy. Hope to share more soon! :)

If you want to start from a platformer, I highly recommend AbleGamesDev's Udemy course called "Unity & C# - Build A Complete 2D Mobile Platformer Game", but for the player controller it's better to use Sebastian Lague's 2D Raycast controller instead, it is free on KZread.
great

I've had some background in coding from the college, but the rest of it - self study. Lots of KZread, Udemy, forums and StackOverflow.

Firs of all - best of luck! :) You can do this! I've started learning from KZread tutorials, like Brackeys, and then also taken a Udemy course on 2D platformers.
