Supernote is such an amazing company. My husband actually did break my A5X accidentally on a plane. It was out of warranty, but the company fixed it for me. The software just keeps getting better and better. So much praise for the company. So helpful and great communication.

I purchased the Supernote A6x today: the main selling points were: - something that looks like an actual pen - longevity of the nib - they are working on an infinite whiteboard - I hear rumors of support for Markdown - access to my Kindle library

Agree. Bought a remarkable 2 and returned it. Didn't like how the nibs wore out and quickly became imprecise. Bought an a5x and love it. Great, precise pen that doesn't wear out . Better organizational features. Custom templates. Frequent updates. Much better product. Been using for over a year. Really improved my productivity. FYI, neither feels like paper and pencil. remarkable felt like a sharpie on paper. a5x feels like a gel pen.

Definitely went for the A5X instead of the RM2 because of the subscription-model. Second reason is the everlasting nib with the A5X standard pen.

Thanks, JB. I have just ordered the A5X based in part on your wonderful videos. The Kindle integration and lack of a subscription model were important factors. I would probably rather the pencil feel of the reMarkable but the hassle of nib replacement and shipping to Singapore were important considerations as well. Thank you for your work and sharing of perspectives on these devices.

My husband is in the market for a 10.3” e-ink device (finally haha) and because of the subscription model alone the RM isn’t even an option. While I totally understand RM needing a subscription model to make back some of the big $$$ they clearly spent on marketing, putting features that used to be *free* behind a paywall was a huge mistake… Begs the question, what’s to stop them from making existing features more expensive to use?

I own both these devices yet I always keep coming back to the Remarkable. I find it just simpler to use and keeps me more on task because of the simplicity. The subscription model is definitely not a good business model on their part, and hopefully they will rethink this in the future or at least make it more affordable for what it offers.

Now that remarkable has removed the connect discount, the price is way too high. Before the removal, I can get the set of remarkable 2 with marker plus and book folio for AUD 649, but now it will cost AUD 1009. I think the price difference is rediculous. On top of that, now there's a subscription service that cost AUD12.99/month. This is even more expensive than Microsoft 365 personal plan (AUD 10/month) that comes with full access to office softwares and 1TB storage in Onedrive. I don't think the price that Remarkable is charging can be justified.

I’ve been researching a lot of these tablets lately and I think I would have gone with the RM2 IF there was no subscription model. But currently I would 100% go with the supernote hands down. I think right now there is a supply chain issue with them, so I may just wait for the next gen of tablets and see what happens.

Customer service seems not as good as it should be: no phone number to call and chat would be available from 3:00am to 2:30pm! I got my supernote A5x about a month ago using the "open box" option because they aren't selling them any other way for the A5 current. I do love the ceramic nib pens and the smooth writing experience. I know I don't understand all the features yet but I take all my notes on it from sessions & enjoy not carrying around notebooks and paper. I bought a little clip on light from Amazon to put on it at night because I do miss that backlight but I solved it. I'm still exploring and learning but I think I made the right choice after watching many videos and reading up on both remarkable 2 and supernote.

I bought both to try them out. I used the RM2 first, and I absolutely loved it. I then got the A5X (I actually bought that one first, but they were going to send it to me in 3 months - I cancelled then a few weeks later bought it again, and it arrived within a few days. They must have fixed the supply issue) to try it out, and I actually didn't like the feel of the pen. While I liked the RM2 stylus more, I didn't like how thick the nib was. I write really small, and I normally go for the finest tip pen I can find, and although the size of the writing on the RM2 was small, it felt weird writing with what looked and felt like a 1mm pencil and the words were really small. Ultimately, I returned the RM2. I was going to return the A5X, but they were going to take 17% tax, $60-$80 shipping fee, and another $20 fee to return it, so I kept it lol. The RM2 was a 100% refund. Kinda funny that I ended up keeping the A5X because of the lack of a good return experience, and I returned the RM2 because of a good experience. To be honest, they're both really good. I would have loved the A5X as much as the RM2 if that arrived sooner - you can't really go wrong.

I love my apple products - started with early 90s macs (remember those Mac/PC commercials? You might be too young. 😉 I’m a Mac. Love the aesthetics & the functionality of the beautifully designed high tech.) However, I LOVE the look of the Supernote. It’s analog aesthetic matches the function, so to speak. It’s a notebook. The white makes it look like pages. I’m sure that was intentional. With the black cover & side loop, it’s a dead ringer for a Moleskin. Love that!

I have another reason to go with Supernote over ReMarkable. If your ReMarkable's charging port breaks for no discernable reason, you have to send it in to replace the entire thing for $164. I had a Supernote A6 before I bought my ReMarkable 2, and I now regret ever buying the ReMarkable 2.

I switched from RM2 to A5X, primarily because of durability. and I really loved the RM2. I had a nice leather cover on my RM2 and the button broke (got stuck) TWICE, on two different RM2s (RM did replace the first one). The second was out of warranty and I got a reconditioned one (?) for $100 from RM which was ok but then 4 months later the screen completely died on that 3rd RM2 and they would not send me a new reconditioned RM. So, I don't really fault RM customer service. Instead i just think it's not designed for everyday frequent use where one is turning the fragile power button on and off. A5X seems far more durable and what's the point of a great e-ink device if you have to buy a new one every couple years?

Love the Ratta Community on Reddit. I traded in my onyx Boox Max Lumi2 (Ratta says a 13.3 inch is coming so even though it was painful giving up my preferred size, I know it’s coming) for the A5X. There was a very specific bug within the Kindle app on the Max Lumi2 that really messed up my workflow when making notes within books. Extremely frustrating. Onyx, when I reported it, said they would look into it in a future update but given their track history that could be forever. No issue on the A5X and those guys are very communicative and you can feel the pride in their product. They’ve got me for life at this point.

i have a remarkable for almost 2 years and got a supernote A5x recently and ended up giving supernote away. I still like the writing feeling on Remarkable 2 more. I do like the never spent nib on supernote and the look for the stylus for supernote. I like it has Kindle, yet the kindle experience is no as good as on a real kindle. supernote another feature where you can lasso a word to put it as “table of content” is great. But the main reasons for me to stick to remarkable and give up supernote is that supernote often ‘accidentally’ flip a page, or erase something, the writing feeling is not as good as remarkable and somehow the transfer files from phone if less user friendly than remarkable.

I bought the reMarkable 2 when it was available for €299 incl. tax, duties and shipping like 2 weeks ago (Europe). At first I was put off because of the subscription-model but I decided to give it a try anyway. I bought a cheap but nice folio (Ayotu skin touch) for ~€30 and the LAMY al-Star EMR pen for ~42€. Also bought a pack of reMarkable 2 nibs to compare them to the LAMY but they feel identical and are still nice to have as spares (note that there are different versions of the LAMY pen/nibs though, the correct one for the reMarkable is the newer POM-version). The reMarkable 2 is just perfect. It feels so natural and easy to use. I am using it for note taking and to read and annotate books for uni (which fit the screen well without having to zoom in, even most A4 papers are workable). I also loaded some of my Kindle ebooks on there (after converting them via Calibre), so it will also replace my good old Kindle 4. I think I can work around the subscription-model, as I don't need the Connect features and will most definitely cancel it after the free 2 months. As long as I can get my files from and to the device I am fine. I installed the RemarkableLamyEraser "hack" by isaacwisdom on Github, which also enables the LAMY button as a eraser but most of the time I find the selection eraser tool more useful. The SuperNote A5X without folio or pen would cost over €500 already after tax and import duties, so unlike the reMarkable 2 it was never an option for me.

I’m gonna order the supernote A5X because I’m moving to college and I really don’t want to have piles on piles of papers and notes just to lose them (little bit clumsy with having my notes organised) and then having to ask a colleague for his notes. Also I’m gonna get an apartment near my college (if possible) and having to pay a monthly subscription of 8€ for something as simple as notes being able to be edited after being exported and re-imported to the device (and being able to use the cloud services that I want) on top of paying a full rent with minimal wage isn’t viable. RM2 is trying to charge us for USING the device while the Supernote A5X lets you edit EVERYTHING for *FREE* and also tries to improve its software and releases it for FREE for every user. Big W for Supernote, reliable, easy and cheaper. MVP notebook in my opinion.

On the SuperNote, is is possible to upload an MS Word document, or an epub document, and then make notes on them? As a writer, I prefer to print off my drafts and revise with a pen, and then go back to my pc to make the corrections. I do this because I just can't spend that much time on the PC without sore eyes and headaches. But I am getting super tired of wasting 300 pages of paper and a ton of ink every time I print a draft off. Can this be done on a SuperNote? I really just want to scribble my revisions on the doc, and then save it so I can use those notes to make those revisions later on my pc.

My eyes are so sensitive that I get eye strain easily which is a huge pain in my ass since I have to read almost 14 hours everyday. So, I'm really desperate for an e-ink reader where I could read academic journals with ease. I'm wondering if you would recommend Onyx Boox Max Lumi 2 for me? I'm not particular with size, in fact I'd prefer if I won't have to pinch and zoom. I'd also prefer if it's android so that I can share my files through zotero or google drive. I haven't had any e-ink reader before so I'm very hesitant since I haven't seen a lot of reviews regarding their build/durability/how long do they last. I'd really appreciate your help. Thank you!

Yes for sure that would be the one you could do so much with it and it’s the best large reader there is my only concern is that you at least try e-ink first maybe some cheap device before you spend $1000 on that one. Just make sure you’re eink is going to work for you.

The field has expanded further. Is the supernote still the device you’d get today?

Has anyone been able to go somewhere like Best Buy to try them out?

I tried out the RM2 at best buy. It has a great feel, like paper. But the nib wears out ans is too big.

Supernote A5X cannot be fairly compared to the remarkable 2. It depends on your preference. I want minimal cognitive load and the remarkable 2 delivers. The Supernote A5X has a learning curve and a more load as you reach for using features. Also, the Supernote is more like a tablet. So in my opinion, Nothing CAN BEAT my IPAD PRO tablet. Remarkable 2 has superior build quality that the Supernote which is built more like the remarkable 1.

Weight.. Weight.. Weight.. The iPad Pro is so darn heavy... Even with a normal case it's just too heavy.. Plus battery life is not nearly as good. I use Notibily App with it and really love the app for my notes, that I can access them on my computer.. etc.. but I find myself not picking up my iPad because it's just to much..

In Europe the Supernote A5X is simply not worth it. The price is too god damn high. 😢

After reviewing most of the videos out there, I still went for the Remarkable 2 due that it has the features that I need NOW. Is good that Supernote has a roadmap but there's not clear end date for those functionalities to be available. Additionally, they are in back-order while RM2 are available now and for $100 cheaper. Finally, Linux >> Android any day.

The software of remarkable2 is horriable. I have both a6x and remarkable 1&2 and a6x is the most usefull one.
