I chosed the Remarkable 2 as I got to put my hands on it and realized this was just what I need : paper with some superpowers, simple to use, a way to organize all those scribbled notes I make all the time at home and at work. I also draw a lot, so it will be perfect for basic sketching. Mine is expected delivering tomorrow, I just can't wait...

Thanks JB - another great video! I’ve tried both, and prefer the RM 2. For me, it comes down to an “intangible” - which I can only describe as “JOY”. I find myself inspired to write - and enjoying the writing process. I believe it’s more a combination of what you’ve presented: the “feel”, the design, no-lag, and the closed (“simple”) ecosystem. This combo creates a bit of ‘magic’ which works well for me. Keep up the great work!

However, thier customer service was awful! Even after sending videos of the malfunctions they did not want to refund my money and kept canceling my return shipping... Thanks for your videos. I appreciate your approach to explaining why your think someone would choose a specific device over another. 8:38 I’m learning that we now live in a society that loves to get upset at a device that doesn’t fit their needs 100%-- no matter what, and they will immediately devalue the product. These are the same people that would go to a pizza restaurant and complain that they don’t sell tacos, and if that restaurant did start selling tacos (just to make them happy) - “well, you don’t have nachos.” Then before you know it it’s no longer a pizza restaurant. I just really wish people would do their research (I know, research is a lost art) and pick a product that fits their needs instead of trying to turn something into something it’s not. “Why did you buy a reMarkable if you wanted an iPad?!” My reMarkable comes next week. I have an iPad Pro 12” and I love it. However, when taking notes (at work) I could really use a device that is super minimal. I love the art of writing on paper, but I also love the ability to quickly put my notes (thoughts) in order. reMarkable is going to do that.

(I'd like to see something with stronger security or even document encryption). 2) I wish Remarkable offered USB storage vs. only cloud options. When reading T&Cs Remarkable states they may share your information with third parties which is not cool. I want full control over security and privacy...not sure Remarkable can tick those two check boxes for me...other than that it's an amazing device just a you have shared in several other videos.

I had a rough start with the ordering process for the Remarkable2 (duplicate order due to no confirmation and no way to cancel the order.) Supernote customer service has been so entirely wonderful that they might just have my loyalty... that said, I am a very tactile person and want to use it to write, sketch and draw so I am still going to give Remarkable a shot. It is going to need to be significantly better of a writing feel to choose it over the Supernote 😊

I hate it when I realize I forgot to bring my engineering calculator, and then the boss asks me "so...what would that look like marv....? and i'm like.. um...." Great review. Solidified my decision. I want the Remarkable for exactly for what it was made for: a replacement for writing on paper. The only thing I have to get past is having to replace the pen nibs. Thank you for your time.

  • @IsaacNYC212

    @IsaacNYC212

    2 жыл бұрын

My Husband just got the reMarkable and they give you 9 replacement nibs (at least with the Marker Plus). That would probably last about a year. Replacing the nibs takes less than 10 seconds. Overall, I would say reMarkable has done a good job at replicating the pencil/pen & paper experience. Think of how often you will need to sharpen a pencil, then having to replace the pencil, and how often you would need to change the ink in a traditional pen-especially a fountain pen. Changing the nib is no different, but faster. I just think reMarkable is trying to stay true to the art of writing and are trying to make it as less of a digital experience as possible. If you think about it one or two generations from now people will not understand the concept of writing. Everything will be typed on a keyboard. We already have young people who can’t write in cursive. I work in Event Production and we have staff sign lots of documents, and you can always tell which generation someone is by if they sign a document in cursive, or if they print their signature.

I don't think reMarkable is a real paper replacement, paper have much more functionality: rulers, bookmarks, post-it, pressure sensitive eraser, side-by-side page, fast browsing and also colors. Yes, some are tech limitation of e-ink, but they didn't try to overcome with some digital solution/replacement (available in other note taking app). I think the over protective community is parte of the problem, if the company can afford to behave in such a "private" way, as you point out, it's because they keep supportive, no matter what. I picture the community like a parent who raised a spoiled child.

I’m an astronomy an astrophysics major with adhd and something like the remarkable 2 seems if it’ll be really helpful for me because I NEED the tactile feel of pencil and paper to remember things, but with my major I fill up over 2000 pages of work / scratch work and notes a year, and then it all gets disorganized, the remarkable will make it so easy to hold notes in organized places and the feel of the pen is what sells me because I don’t like the gliding smooth feel of a screen, with adhd I just can’t remember things without that tactile paper feel, I don’t know why. I LOVE your review though, especially after watching the “why buy the super note over remarkable” it really helped me figure out which one I want lol!

    1. LAMY pen for the Supernote(SN) has an eraser button that doesn't require you to flip the pen over - a neat feature, might work on RM too? 2. Writing feel is subjective - try them both out...and it changes with pen types/nibs, 3. SN has the safest case to unit interface, it is not going to come loose. also, pen holder on RM case is a clip for 7$, 4. Not sure that Linux is better than Android unless you want to hack and then see what the next release does to it - remember iPhone hacks? 5. Supernote has a great community and published roadmaps for future releases, the fact is that RM has sold a lot of units and has many users. Do RM engineers enter answers and remarks in these community pages? Supernote does. 6. No mention of the new RM subscription plan so may have happened since he created this. 7. Ability to find files is important - please compare each.

Good comparison, JB. As you say, each device has its own advantages, depending on the user’s requirements. One area that cannot be debated and wasn’t mentioned is the add-on costs of the accessories. With reMarkable, you have to pay extra for the cover, the pen and then you have to replace the nibs regularly (some users say every few weeks, depending on usage). With Supernote, as part of the package, you receive all the accessories at no additional cost. These aren’t low-quality either. The covers are purpose-built with hard-wearing canvas or high-grade leather, and the styluses are arguably the best in the industry. You can choose from Supernote’s unique pen with a ceramic nib that never needs replacing or the German-made Lamy with an eraser and a specially-designed, long-lasting tip for the Supernote.

Hey PsiFi009! I made my own cover and got the 50 dollar pen. Which helped me a great deal because there is not a chance ever, that I would spend 150 on a cover (for me, that money went to my running shoes, so it's really all about the value to the customer). Someone else might never want to pay 150 for a pair of trainers. I get that, too. As for the nibs, there's soooo many other pen options like the Noris Digital Jumbo, with eraser and nibs, I paid under 40 bucks (which included tax). But again, there are sooo many wonderful stylus options. I'm happy to pay 2 bucks a nib, if I enjoy the way the nib writes.

But it does SVG file export. It seems Supernote does text search but hasn't got SVG export yet. Note Air does both but shipping to UK is an expensive and lengthy ball ache, and returns policy if I try it and don't like it is completely unfavorable and putting me right off the company. I've seen other reviews, and I'm still leaning toward the A5X. I saw two reviews, one of "using an A5X day to day" and one comparing the two and the Boox Note Air and one thing that is an advantage of the A5X is being able to "star" notes or pages in documents and find those stars rather easily (like bookmarks) and to also index notes to have a table of contents. From the one review, it was said reMarkable doesn't have these features. If true, then the reMarkable is almost too simplistic for me.

I’m putting my money on Supernote. More functionality. Cheaper. Wear-resistant pens (dealbreaker). Good feel, especially with the HOM. Good cover, rm2’s cover is overpriced, and the device comes off with a light shake. The only thing Supernote loses at is the writing feel, but then again, the difference is really marginal I think.

Just FYI, all Android systems are Linux systems too, but it runs its own little Java-based abstraction layer, so it's not VERY linux-y. It just uses the kernel and replaces all of the other typical linux software with it's own Java-based (mostly) software stack. Part of why the reMarkable boots faster than its competitors is that it's really basic Linux system is very pared-down vs an android system, even a pared-down android system like the QuirkLogic. Hope that all made sense. Lots of unavoidable repetition in those sentences. ^__^

Which may sound like a silly reason to buy something, but the whole point of eNotebooks is to replace pen and paper, so it's valid. I mean, SuperNote has better features, but boy, is RM2 sexy as hell! :) I agree with some other comments here, it does feel like you are searching hard for reasons to buy RM2 over SuperNote and not finding them :) Looking at both units right now, and leaning heavily towards SN A5X, but they are on back-order until April....

A note about Android vs. Linux. This is confusing because Android _is_ Linux under the covers. Just like OSX is BSD Unix under the covers. Android is Google stuff built on top of Linux. The Android platform allows savvy developers to hack on stuff that is Linuxy or at the upper layers that is more Androidy. Plus, in theory, Android can allow for plugging into the Playstore. In contrast, Remarkable running on vanilla Linux doesn't have access to the Playstore. The Android v. "Linux" thing can be confusing since, Android, in the end, _is_ Linux under the covers. Therefore, both are Linux-based eink platforms, w/ Supernote using an Android-flavored Linux. Cheers.

I feel like JB is manifesting the RM communities collective disillusion with the device/company in this video. It's like he's struggling to find things to say about it that are "better" than the Supter Note and starts talking about general things that are "good" (and dare I say, "good enough") about the device. I may be projecting here (RM1 owner and batch 3 preorder), but it's just a strange feeling to go from defending them on social media 4 months ago to feeling increasing regret over my purchase. It is a GoRgEoUs device, the pen is great, but it's a pen and paper replacement that's fairly fragile. My pen with the eraser dropped from my kitchen table and the eraser portion went flying across the room. It's broken for good, which apparently is a fairly common thing based on Reddit. I don't want to have to be delicate with a pen and paper replacement, and when they aren't offering anything more than that it's hard to feel good about the purchase. Is it the companies fault that people are dropping their devices/accessories and breaking them? Of course not. Should this may have been a consideration for the company that wanted to replicate the pen and paper experience? I would argue yes. I can say after watching both of these videos that I am heavily leaning into the SuperNote community and have my finger on my mouse ready to buy. I convert a lot of my notes to flashcards and the exports form my RM are basically unusable. Apparently the SuperNote has a similar problem, but when I asked about it in the Reddit community I was informed the company has already addressed this is an issue and they are working on better export quality... It's a strange feeling seeing actual company employees reply in the community regularly. I'm not saying all of this to be hard on Remarkable, or even to tell you not to buy one, but just wanted you to know how a loyal Remarkable customer is feeling 4 months after receiving their device.
