1 Year 18 Countries EUROPE Motorhome Budget

    You forgot a ‘bits and bobs’ category 😉. I always find that adds up to the most! I’m glad you added on towards the end all the other costs like insurance, maintenance. Obviously they’re very individual but saying your final costs are about 3 x the daily sounds more realistic. I saw in another comment that you haven’t monetised - is that correct? I’d be interested to know your reasons as it’s obvious you spend a lot of time on the videos.

    Lisa said to me afterwards our total is probably closer to 2x (so around 24k per year). But it's all relative after all. Our KZread channel IS monetised. But the revenue from ad views super low. We earn less than 10 EUR per day on avg from KZread. It's a long way from covering even our gear.

    This is a really fantastic video. Nicely done. Thoughtful and honest. Talking budgets could be sooo boring, but the time and effort you both have put into this is just great. We really liked the breakdown and the way you separated the motorhome running cost. Tyres, servicing, insurance etc. We are also full timers (almost 2 years) and it was interesting to see how we compare. We also eat out occasionally and cook fresh. Simple pleasures and take in free venues and nature, with no definite plan and living free. Thanks Andre and Lisa. Brilliant video. 😊

As I am not really good at excel could I ask is it possible to get a copy off your spreadsheet so that I can track our costs for our first trip in Europe this year. I take it that one of you is a chef that you are able to conjure up some decent meals ! Thanks in advance. Drew & Linda🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

    Hi Drew and Linda! Welcome to our channel! We don't actually have a spreadsheet as such. What we do is to track travel expenses with an app (we use Trabee Pocket) which allows you to create trips and expense categories in multiple currencies. We also use Quicken (in which everything goes) to do reporting.

We are looking at doing a 3 month exploring trip during the summer months. While our daughter in on vacation from school. But it's looking like $200-$300 a day for a 90 day or les trip.🤔 I'm sure there is a way to get it down while still enjoying some entertainment and excursions. Thanks again 😊

    Hi Andre and lisa , We are loving your videos and look forward to every new video for several years now. We are just past our 60s and are aiming to tour in our 10 year old motorhome, 3 months to start and then follow your lead going full time if all goes to plan . I am aware you have the freedom to travel and visit as you please but our conundrum is we have a mid size dog we love to bits. Would it be possible going forward to add a small section, as to any restrictions or complications it would add to your visits/travels for us dog owners. Just a thought of extra valued information that would help immensely many dog owners plans and confidence in traveling. You have replaced for us good viewing on the telly.

  • @WeWillNomad

    @WeWillNomad

    Hi Dave! Thanks for the comment. Many people travel with their pets by motorhome all over Europe and we see it all the time! The size of the dog is clearly to issue to most 😋 If you are from the UK you might need to familiarise yourself with the required paperwork to be able to take your dog with you across borders. (Within the EU you need a 'pet passport' to manage vaccinations and chip information). In some countries where stray dogs are more prevalent (Balkans, Greece) it's slightly more complicated to travel with pets as you need to be a lot more aware of other animals. But it's perfectly doable. I would probably advise against bringing a dog to Morocco. The bigger question is how the dog will adjust to this. Some pets seem to struggle with the change but it will depend on the age and its temperament. Either way, you shouldn't let having a pet stand in your way. All the best with your plans!

    Very informative, are the costs per person or for a couple (particularly the food). Looking forward to seeing your journey in 2024! Also, keen to know how you managed your finances to get to a point where you could be full time nomads! (FIRE? Lottery winnings? ...)

  • @WeWillNomad

    @WeWillNomad

    5 ай бұрын

    Thanks Ian. The costs are our total expenses as a couple. There's very little saving to be made if you are a single person. Clearly, we often get asked how we can afford to travel full-time. Sadly we don't come from rich families. We did not win the lotto. And we definitely do not make money from KZread 😋. We were not on a FIRE path per se, but that thought process did lead to the question of 'when is enough, enough'. Even so, it's a simple answer. You just need time to work in your favor. We had good-earning jobs for 20 years. We spent less than we earned. We prioritized saving and investments. We made some tough choices. We had some good luck and some bad luck. We've always been frugal and we never say no to an opportunity to earn an income. I would like to think we're financially secure, although we're not 'rich'. At the end of the day, it's not how much you earn(have) but how much you spend(keep).

    Hi Andre and Lisa, we are inspired by your videos! In one video you specified that it was important to not have a camper/motorhome over 6 metres long (because of the ferries). • @WeWillNomad

    Thanks Justine and welcome to our channel! Most ferries are just much more expensive for vehicles longer than 6m. Especially travelling around Scandinavia this can really add up. Hi Lisa, I returned to that video as I plan a year trip with my tiny camper. Can you make a video about HOW you log your daily spending? Or do you use a debit card such as Wise, which has different spending categories, and you log those data in your Excel sheet? Or....? 🤔

  • @WeWillNomad

    Hi! We use an app called "TrabeePocket" to log all our spending. That’s interesting, in comparison our own budgeting while touring in the USA in our U.K. camper,over the past 11 months: 26550k cost 3500$ in fuel, accommodation 4$ ave per day, sight seeing in 12 National parks subscription to America the Beautiful card 80$ saved 450$ entry fees, insurance for temporarily imported vehicle 1800$ , eating out at least 20$ for 2 coffees and a cake lost count!, return shipping Southampton U.K. to Charleston US 8200$ approximately the same as hiring a similar motorhome for 4000$ per month.

    I'm interested in how you structured the investment side of things as South Africans? Are you mostly in index etfs? And taxes?

  • @WeWillNomad

    @WeWillNomad

    5 ай бұрын

    Fairly simple really. All assets and investments are equally divided between us to optimize tax. We're (stil) registered for tax in SA (ordinarily resident status). Since 2017 we've been liquidating assets in SA (primarily property) and moved ZAR to EUR or USD. Less than 25% of our assets are still in SA mainly in RA's (which we can't access yet), TFS and the odd discretionary investment. Apart from RA's t this is mostly in ZAR denominated low-cost broad-based ETFs like Satrix MSCI World. For our offshore investments we use Interactive Brokers and pretty much only hold the Vanguard FTSE All World (VWRL) in EUR. We're taxed on world wide income in SA but we take advantage of rebates and allowances as best as possible. As we don't really have much of an income our tax liability is actually very low. If you have more questions feel free to send an email.

    Thanks for spending the time to collate and share with us these stats. - I didn't realise that you would need to purchase extra insurance for Albania or another country. I assumed that once you were insured and legal to drive in another country that was it. - Wow, 17 nights off-grid. Very impressive. - We spent the last two nights in Dublin attending a football match. We parted with over 100 EUROs for dinner for two on Sunday night and over 40 EUROs for breakfast this morning. I need to learn how to cook..... - I love that chocolate has its own segment on the piechart ! - Oh my, I fear that our dining out costs would be crazy. How much does Andre charge per day as a chef ? - great information on the cell data costs - I am amazed and glad at how low your LPG costs are. Heating costs in Western Europe are crazy during the winter. - Can you recommend a Campervan club where you can benefit from group insurance ? - I actually thought that you weren't going to include health insurance and was thinking about that. Cos... it can be significant. But then you did. Very comprehensive budget breakdown guys. - your final point, about the other ancillary or lifestyle (living) costs was a good one to make. I was thinking, what about when you need to buy a brolly cos its raining or a new pair of wellies cos its... raining. or a new pair of sunglasses cos you want to show your viewers who might live in colder climes that the warm sun is blinding you. Or, clothes/consumables etc. So, 3 times those itemized costs to me seems fair. This video is gold dust. And I really mean that. The time, effort, care and attention to detail that you both have spent on summing up all of these items will save people money. The key takeaway for me is that we need to somehow coax Andre away from Lisa for most of the year so that he can maintain our vehicle, cook our breakfast, dinner & tea and then... only then will we be able to afford to be nomadic. I'd say two croissants a day and a nice cold beer in the evening should do it ;-)

    The most amazing part of the whole video and the one you spent 0 time on detailing is your average km/day - 39km/day. That is the reason most people will find this impossible, 30 Euro/day cost. And that is the reason for it - it took you 288 days to travel 11.323km. I had one trip last year, 10 days, 3060km. That's 306km/day = 10 times more than your average. And I believe more people are in my situation than in your situation - I can't leave for more than 2-3 weeks in one go, I have to come back to the kids, cats, dogs, house, jobs, etc. I envy you!
