1 Timothy 6 - [Daily Bible Study]

Branch Together brings Christians together to read the Bible every day. We know as Christians that we are called to "branch out" and reach the world around us, but first we must come "together" and develop habits that help us grow to be more like the people Jesus is calling us to be. So before we Branch Out, we Branch Together. Some people might call this Daily Devotions, or Quiet Time...whatever you call it, our videos kickstart your most important daily habit.

Paul and Timothy, servants of Jesus Christ, to all true Christians at Philippi and to their bishops and deacons, grace and peace from God our Father and Jesus Christ the Lord ! I thank my God and Father for you whenever I think of you. My constant prayers for you are a real joy, because we have worked together for the gospel from the first day until the present. I am confident of this: that the One who has begun His good work in you (in your spirit/tummy) will go on developing it until the day of Jesus Christ. Philippians 1 Phillips Translation

I believe our worldly goals are to be successful and have security . But our security is in Jesus Christ not our worldly goals and posessions.ive accomplised alot and felt a temporary satisfaction but was not the contentment I was searching for.Jesus gives me contentment and and satisfaction knowing its eternal and not a contemporary satisfaction as the world gives

Very good question. To find the truth one may need to study the original text. I've often thought that this translation is not quite clear. ...but on the other hand Our country's slavery was hideous. There was a time when one might find themselves unable to feed, and provide for himself, and family, and so they would bond with a wealthy man for food, and shelter. There was no beating, or forced breeding (rape). If you did not please the master of the house he would simply throw you out. If a man will not work then neither should he eat.

Master is the employer. Slave is an employee. I disagree because with a slave the slave can't quit and with being an employee you can quit as you please. The slaves didn't have a choice to leave or stay. So therefore the employees can do that. That's my pov

My favorite verse in this reading today was “But godliness with contentment is great gain,” “for we brought nothing into the world, and we cannot take anything out of the world.” But if we have food and clothing, with these we will be content.” ‭‭1 Timothy‬ ‭6:8‬ ‭ESV‬‬ This verse gave me so much to think about because God has blessed me in so many ways. Thank You for reminding me how blessed we really are. +

This is a really good point and making me think. Although the verse is referring to material things, there are so many areas where contentment is important. I hope you are getting there. Saying a prayer for you right now.

First of all, if Christians actually followed Jesus's teachings I wouldn't have that much of a problem with Christianity. Secondly, there's no need to pray if God is defined to be an all knowing figure. He knows what will happen at any moment in the future and is omnipotent so prayer ultimately becomes unnecessary and a waste of time. Finally, the love for money leads to idolatry and corruption which is the world we are living in today. Life itself should make anyone content. The happiness countries in the world has less material objects and put more emphasis on living in tune with nature aka your God's creation. Destroying his creation is like giving him the finger. That's how I see it. So we need to be taking care of the Earth for your sake so you don't go to hell and for everyone on Earth in the present moment.

You are correct. This is a problem for most Christians today. Understanding why we pray. It has thrown many off their stride in the Faith. With me I had to take inventory of my personal desire. What was I looking to get out of prayer> Am I looking to bend God's will? It got me on a path to know Him better. Many of us want to understand Him but He wants us to trust Him. Like in any relationship, it deepens with interaction. Understanding each other comes with time spent with each other. I didn't stop talking to my wife once we slipped the rings on. Trust comes through interactions just like faith comes through the hearing of the Word of God.

actually, the Bible puts great emphasis on prayer and it’s importance !! yes, God knows all things, but He still desires to hear our requests. if prayer is a waste of time, why did Jesus pray? because He knew He had to come before God in submission, humility. so prayer is NOT AT ALL a waste of time

True Christians follow Christ's teachings, the problem is many in the church aren't really apart of the church Jesus and Paul make those distinctions clear if you care to read. If was already prophecied that there will be goats among the sheep, hypocrites, and false teachers in the church. Like Jesus would say to you, unless you repent you will also likewise perish. Next, prayer is communication with our God and Father, and he has used prayer as a means to invite us into His fellowship. Anyone who knows God has experienced the richness of His presence and answer to specific prayer requests. Prayer is also God inviting us to be partakers in changing things in the world, yes he is sovereign and omnipresent but He is also obliged to do as He pleases, he is God. Lastly, one can be in tune with nature and experience the peace and beauty of the Creators world, but if one neglects to give Him the honor due Him, and rejects Him for His patience, grace, kindness, mercy then should we expect such an idolater to enter into His holy presence for eternity? No, if you lavished gift upon gift, and love upon love on an individual and they ignored you, used your name as a four letter filth word, and denied your existence how would you feel? For those who want to live this life separate from God can do so in after life when they breathe their last. For those who recognize God is good and holy and they are not, God has provided a way to make you good and holy and blameless before Him through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Jesus took our sin and paid the penalty on the cross. His resurrection proved his power over the one thing we all fear death, and he grants eternal life to those who genuinely believe and out their hope in him. His righteousness becomes ours in God's sight and we can be forgiven, our sin debt cancelled and a true heart change then leads us to a life of love doing good waiting for our Messiah to come again.
