Sometimes, when you watch just made baskets, you can falsely assume that players were more efficient than they were in the game. 👏

WV deserve credit for their tenacious defense forcing Iowa into some bad turnovers, poor shootings, slowing the game down and out of Iowa's comfort zone. At least Kate, Hannah, Syd, Marshall all contributed at key moments but CC kept them in the game.

I am an Iowa fan this season, but I thought West Virginia really was impressive (slightly more aggressive than I am a fan of, but it was effective). What an impressive effort. I'm glad Iowa survived, but impressed by WV.

They are going to have to play better than this to make final four.

Only the drama queens tend to make headlines, the game has really improved for the women but not the marketing options. Too few big stars, too few really good programs too. The same teams regularly finish in the Final four despite some recent equality in the last season.

Hannah Stuelke showed up in a big way. Mad props to her. She was getting hacked the whole game, and a couple were flagrant. Two mediocre scoring games in a row, but they showed they can win a low scoring defensive game. If they hit their stride they can hang with anyone. And Lol @ the haters.

Ummm, the first game they scored 91 points. That’s not mediocre. That wins nearly every time. But they did START slow in that game as well. They need to stop doing that.

WV played a very physical game on all the Iowa players. They were lucky more fouls were not called on them. This the second game where they want to beat up on the Iowa players. It seems to be the strategy of how teams think they beat Iowa. Constant hand and arm checks on Clark to prevent her from moving or scoring. Then physical play on the center position and forwards. If it wasn't for WV guards terrible shooting mechanics making the outside shot inconsistent. They might have beaten Iowa.

If it wasnt for the NCAA wanting to ensure their cash cow remains active for the rest of the tournament WVU should have won. WVU fans are not the only people saying this either. It was blatantly obvious to anyone with eyeballs thats not an Iowa fan. Twitter is ablaze with comments from a lot of people in the industry, even NBA players. How much $$$ would the NCAA lose if Iowa would get beat in this round? $2mill, $5mill, $10mill?? This is why we should remove humans from officiating and only as secondary confirmation. WVU gave them a game, very proud of them.

The refs let them play in the first half but WV was fouling Iowa on nearly every posetion so they started calling the game a little tighter. I didn't really see any bad calls but I did see a lot of no calls that are just as bad.

I saw a few bad calls. 2:55, 9:45, and 10:20 the girl was literally waiting for her to go behind the back and as soon as she was lined up for the steal boom foul called. Pause at 10:21

There will be a learning curve for her in the WNBA.

Who's they? The refs who almost let the game get out of hand, and were equally bad all night missing blatant fouls and other times calling fouls on nothing? The bad officiating was happening to both squads though. And if anything, that style of game should have given WVU the edge IMO.

Listen I enjoy watching CC and Iowa but keep in mind what worked for WV and you will see a lot more of the same going forward. I have been saying all season that Iowa is good but not great and if you think WV was rough and tough wait and see if they get to LSU and then SC. It's funny Iowa struggled in their second game last year too against Georgis, they adapted and ended up just fine. Not saying the same will happen, but it's happened before. Also WVU has a lot better defense then most teams. Not South Carolina, but most.

Being form the east I have seen lots of SC and LSU and UConn also. Iowa may match up with UConn but not the others with one slight exception. CC hits for 40 and the other two shooters do the same or almost. That means the inside and rebounds would not be an issue cause if they are Iowa is doomed. @@bracesforme3

It's hard to score when you're fouled roughly every possession. Basketball isn't hockey and it's super annoying when being almost abused physically is permitted by refs.

Every missed shot had players ending up on the floor. That wasn't basketball. Obvious who was tackling who. Not enough fouls called.

WV was playing rough and tough basketball. That's what happens. Yes, you can get into your opponents heads and keep it lower scoring, but you also get into foul trouble. It was a very physical game. Iowa generally plays with finesse (transition basketball and lots of threes). WV played their type of ball (defensive and physical). There are consequences.

Ok, I've been watching women's games, all the talk about Clark. All the points along with all the doubles and triple doubles. She's been amazing. During the last Iowa State game, the genius commentator was talking about the freshman center, a big girl that can't jump. She said this girl was the best player in Iowa, said yes I said it. Why? What in gods name would anyone say that, just passed Plum for scoring in a single season, up with the best in assists and rebounds for guards. They showed their top 5 point in NCAA history. Yes the record setter was not on it. WTF?

Hardest defense ive ever seen for 4 quarters WVU ! Stulke seemed off her game a little but pulled through ! Gabby couldnt buy a 3 !

Nothing is saving woman's basketball🙄 Unless they start moving faster, and jumping higher nobody is gonna watch. The WNBA will continue to lose money yr after yr, but stay open thanks to the men. Sorry just speaking facts and the truth

The frantic defense by WV had just about everyone on the team except Afolter and Clark intimidated. Everyone else seemed scared to shoot, didn't even want the ball in their hands like it was a hot potato. If there was ever a game where Clark needed to be selfish, this was it. Every pass in to Stuelke or O'Grady was muffed. They were in the bonus very early in the 4th and Clark should have just driven to the hole every time. The whole WV team would have fouled out and she'd have had 20 more foul shots.

Wow. West Virginia got completely screwed by refs. Clark just jumps into the defender and gets the Lebron treatment every time, plus 10 other nonsense foul calls against WV.

West Virginia with its strong defense could learn a lesson in implementing it from Iowa. With all the questions around the officiating it is my view that the officials didn't call enough fouls on West Virginia. The nudges, pushes, and other sleight of hand tricks didn't go completely unnoticed by this officiating crew though. If West Virginia wants to try to face guard experienced players then they have nothing to whine and complain about when they so blatantly foul.

If they play at their best and get some help from the refs, they got a slim chance to beat Colorado, but even if they win that game, its slim and no chance against the remaining teams. I haven't really watched women's college basketball. After watching this game I seeing that I have missed watching a game where free throw success is a real part of the game and actually being able to play the game without being a freak of nature like the men is more entertaining for me. I stopped watching NBA long time ago, it became boring watch big tall dudes just proving they can dunk( why wouldn't an athlete over 6 1/2 feet tall not be able to) and watching players who make millions but could care less about their fans by decided when they would be playing a game or not. Colllege men who think think they might make it to the NBA could care less about college education since they'll be rich if they make it and even less about their team or university. For me professional sports is a wonderful thing to be able to watch extremely talented athletes doing what they do best but all the money and the me-me attitudes have made me less of a fan year by year. I've always loved college football and March Madness but its getting tiring with the football players when their team is behind by 20 points and they make a good play they act like they just made a game winning play and the men's basketball is lots of grandstanding as they are just auitioning for NBA scouts. I gave up on baseball after all the steroids and pretty much do the same with golf until all the best players are plaaying each other again. I loved going to ball games as a youngster and young man but don't think I could ever come up with money to actually see a game in person without breaking the bank. Just another great thing in America leaving because of greed and extreme money. Can't wait to see all the NIL millionaires who don't even make it to their second season in college.

The refs won that game.

I was disappointed that the overhyped IOWA barely beat West Virginia. Add to that the obvious favoring of the judges toward IOWA (Too few calls altogether against both teams anyway) and Clark that got a nice broken nose as a reminder that she is not Wonder Woman, well what else is there to say. It looked like a Rugby match more than Basketball.

Referees were horrible! West Virginia guards played really good defense on Clark, but everything was a foul on West Virginia. 30 free throws to 5 is insane.

The refs also missed many fouls early in the game. Maybe if they called them early as they should, WV would have played differently and not fouled so much. BTW the fouls called were all legit.

Nah...the refs had it under control...by a 30 to 5 margin.

The officials helped Iowa out the best they could and it worked. WVU was clearly the better team.

WVU’s awesome defense is because of hacking fouls not called. If the officials were really trying to help Iowa, more WVU players would have fouled out, doh.

WVU might have won had they not tossed brick after brick after brick at the end. WVU's defense successfully got Iowa off their game, but it seems that Iowa's defense also had something to say.

What I'm learning here is Iowa does not play an aggressive style of defense. Iowa does not foul even when they touch a WV player who's trying to score. I hope other teams are taking note of the defense of Iowa and figure out how to implement it within there gameplan.

@@seanb45 this Iowa team is about scoring, not defense. Dah… except tonight, they had a tenacious defense against WVU. Gave them a taste of their own medicine LOL. That’s how coaching works, the staff figures out game plans to defeat an opponent, doh… Iowa had a game plan too to defeat WVU and it worked. Iowa doesn’t touch a player trying to score? Really? We won, you lost. Get over it.

They didn't call some big-time fouls in the first half. I think they must have had a convening at halftime to say that the game was getting a little too physical. They had a much tighter whistle in the second half.

No, she was stripped. There was a lot of hand checking before that they could've been called at anytime but chose to call it once she lost the ball. Jobbed! That type of hand checking happens all game. So a good opportunity to pick and choose when to call it.

That was a clean strip she was waiting for her to turn and the minute she did the ball was there and boom foul. If you pause it at 10:21 it looks even worse.

The whiteees saw some ghetto ball tonight. Boy were they ever tested by a crew who fought hard, were very well coached, and used hard-to-call fouling to perfection. (almost perfection).

Well coached. I've seen this said more than once. The coach had the opportunity to adjust the aggressiveness of his defense, but chose not to. 6 players in foul trouble or fouled out.
