1/72nd Scale CVN 65 USS Enterprise
Mr. Gabriel Suranyi dedicated a total of nineteen (19) years of detailed craftsmanship to complete the building of this 1/72 scale, sixteen foot long, five foot wide, four foot high carrier. The Model was featured on the front page and fold-out centerfold in the March 1997, 15th-year-edition of FineScale Modeler magazine. The U.S. Navy also ferried the builder, Gabe Suranyi, via a C-2A to the USS Enterprise about 200 miles off Norfolk in September 1997. Gabe resided on the USS Enterprise for two days compliments of the ship's Captain.

Let’s make sure that history never forgets the name...Enterprise.
Hard to believe it was my home for 4 years of my life in the 80's...
Fantastic model. Huge in 1/72 scale. Can't imagine the hundreds of hours making this all come together. Each one of those planes take many hours to do right just by themselves. The ship itself is detailed to the max with the railings, crew figures and the overall attention to detail throughout the model. It truly is a masterpiece of a model. Thank you for sharing this video

Try thousands of hours. I normally spend about 40 hours building such Navy fighters on average. Given my experience on building one off custom scratch built models as well as kit models to a professional degree I can see this modeler spending over 5000 hours on this model over 5 years. That's averaging 4 to 5 hours every day in his modelling studio. This is an epic labor of love .

Yeah, this was a total case of holy crap. i can't even imagine the awning and work that went into it.
Amazing work!!! It takes me forever just to finish a model airplane. I don`t think I have enough years left to even think of starting something like this.
This model was built by one man over the course of a decade. Once news of this masterpiece got out the CO of the USS Enterprise invited the builder to spend a weekend aboard the carrier. This model was donated to the museum when the builder had to sell his house and move into a senior center. I don’t remember all the exact details but a Google search would probably do it.

I know the builder. He didn’t have to sell his house, he and his wife simply downsized and moved locally to a 55+ community. They have a lovely house, just smaller than what they had before.

The airplane kits alone represent quite an investment, not to mention the time to assemble. That's serious dedication.
What incredibly precise detail of the ship I once served aboard. She looks as how I remembered her, and I can see myself on the flight deck once more, reliving every aspect of flight ops back in the day. The model, mostly completed in 2003, represents the USS Enterprise and Air-Wing 11 during the ships’ 1989 cruise. Top deck of the carrier is finished in rough grip surface. Over 6000 tie-downs are on the top deck and 5000 in the hangar bay. The tie-downs have been obtained from a British Company named PP Airoparts, unfortunately they discontinued operations in the early 90’s. Many other parts were die cast in New Jersey.
Absolutely gorgeous, and no annoying music. Thank you.
Yeah that's an awesome looking model of the USS enterprise I can't believe it's still sitting there at the national air space museum there in Washington DC after all these years.
this is amazing, a 1/72 scale carrier together with the same scale F-14, A-6, F/A-18, AWACS and sea kings.. this is great work!!!

Back when I was still in uniform I was able to pay a courtesy visit to ENTERPRISE and that was quite memorable. It wasn't too many years after that when she was decommissioned. :-( So I am glad that I didn't pass up on the chance. It is a sad quirk of life that we tend to think "oh, I can skip it for now, there be another chance later."

I got to visit the forrestal at Nas pcola back around 92ish. Never forget the feeling of being on that deck. The wind, the height, the just frigging size. I remember when we were going up there, one of the main corridors, it was like knee knockers leading off to infinity. Always amazes me.

FIRSTLY, 'James G' Thanks for posting this video, it is EXCELLENTLY Detailed!! Secondly, Mr. Suranyi, you have Done a SUPERIOR Job, as a fellow modeller, I will study this video...Extensively, when " I " build my USS ENTERPRISE CVN-65, I also plan on building it to This timeline.....BUT.....my model will be Much, much smaller...in 1/700 scale. Mr. Suranyi, your Work has inspired me into getting to this model .... Quickly.... I have an Uncle that served on Her, before the modifications, back in the early 60s..during the time of the "quarantine" (Blockade) of Cuba.
The amount of work!! Incredible!
OMG.....It's beautiful. Almost like you were there, the detail is amazing, too bad the Navy won't keep her as a museam
ABSOLUTELY Exquisite, ELEGANCE IN THE FIRST DEGREE! VERY FINE CRAFTSMANSHIP! WOWEEE! THANKS FOR LETTING ME SEE HER!
That is just flippin' amazing!
Well, that's damn impressive. That "model" is 14 or 15 feet long, assuming I'm doing the math correctly. And the detail is nothing short of magnificent. I can only imagine how many man hours were required to create it.
Fantastic piece of work!
Amazing, absolutely a wonderful model, incredible dedication to the builder/builders. Bravo Zulu.
Awesome.. it visited down under.. thanks from NZ 👍🇳🇿
I think I still have that edition of FineScale Modeler in my collection. Always told myself that I was going to have to visit that place someday.
wow! Nice to see my old CAW-11 and Squadron VF-114 (Aardvark) portrayed on such a beautiful model. In my day we were onboard the Kitty Hawk CV 63.
Fantastique, de la Folie, Incroyable....BRAVO !!!
Great model. A true masterpiece.
Toured her 4 times as a kid at Subic Bay in the 60's.
Absolutely beautiful.
Wow, that's great stuff! 1/72 is my scale and the builder of this absolutely unique work of art is definitely one of my heroes. Very, very great!

I saw a model of the Enterprise that was the same scale at Air and Space a long time ago. It was really cool. To think of how many hours went into building it, the placard said it took about 20,000 hours to build that model.

OK, I've seen several companies putting out these 1/200 battle ships, but a 1/72 aircraft career with insane detail :-) I don't even think Steven Spielbergs team could build this masterpiece. Had to be financed by Musk. It could be used for a tutorial piece for crews about to be deployed for carrier duty It's not a model, its ART.

It's 1/72 scale (1" = 72" (6')), so a 1,100' ship would be about 15' 6" (5.7 meters) long and about 43" (1.1 m) wide.
