1/4 Zip Sweater Tutorial ✂️ No pattern needed! How to sew a sweatshirt jumper with a zipper front

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

In this video I’ll show you step by step how to sew a sweatshirt with a front zipper. I’ve seen so many cool retro style 1/4 zip jumpers so I thought I would sew my own and show you how you can do the same.
If you have never used a sewing machine or if you’re rusty with how to thread one up, how to wind a bobbin or adjusting the settings, then make sure you watch this video first! • Setting up a Sewing Ma...

If you’re starting to learn about sustainable and ethical living and how to curate a more mindful closet, a great step is to learn how to sew your own things. This way you can invest your own time into creating or tailoring beautiful pieces that will serve you in the long run and steer clear of cheap and nasty items that have been sewn in sweatshops or from unsustainable materials.

    This was a great tutorial. It helped me add a zipper to my husband’s pullover hoodie. Now I’m going to dig out the other hoodie I put in timeout because the neck hole was just a little too small. Thank you!

    Thank you for this tutorial. I have a pattern but I always think its a good idea to see what to expect. Pattern instructions often assume knowledge. So thanks again. Love the explanations

    I just started Simplicity S9328 knit dress, with 1/4 zip, today. Although I'm an experienced sewer I knew immediately the zip would be fiddley. Your video was just what I need. Thanks!!

    Hey thanks so much for this! I started making one by hand last year (didn't have a machine at the time) just by approximations and gave up after the body and arm so now I can go back and finish it! I do have a question though... What paper are you using to create your stencils?

  • @SlewLiving

    Pleasure! Hope yours turns out well. I have an old stash of patten making paper since I used to work in the industry, but now I've run out and I just use butchers paper or whatever rolls of brown paper I can find easily 🤗

    Thanks! I'm using French Terry fabric. If you look that up you should be able to find many stockists depends on where you live!

    what are the green markings on the front armhole and front and back neck? And were they included when you traced the final pattern piece?

    The green highlighter markings are my 1cm seam allowances 😊 Remember to add seam allowances to all final pattern pieces!

    Can you please let me know what stitch you use for top stitching, is it a regular straight stitch or special stretch stitch

  • @SlewLiving

    @SlewLiving

    I used a regular straight stitch for this top stitching because I only top stitched areas that didn't require a lot of stretch 😊

    Is there a way to make the 1/4 zipped sweater into a full zipped sweater ?

  • @SlewLiving

    @SlewLiving

    2 жыл бұрын

    There is! It would be easier to do a full zip than a 1/4 zip, if you watch a video on how to sew a full zip it'll help you 👌

    How much fabric do I need for that?

  • @SlewLiving

    @SlewLiving

    Жыл бұрын

    It depends on the width of the fabric and the size of the jumper being made, but roughly 2yards should be an estimation only!

    how much of fabric we need?

  • @SlewLiving

    @SlewLiving

    6 ай бұрын

    It depends on how wide the fabric you are purchasing is and what size you are planning to sew. I recommend watching the instructions and use your existing garment as a template to estimate how much fabric you will require.

    Would u say this is beginner friendly? I’ve never sewn a top😅

  • @SlewLiving

    @SlewLiving

    Жыл бұрын

    I would say it's not beginner friendly unfortunately! For beginners I would recommend a jumper with no zips no buttons no fastenings, so that you can learn how to sew the fabric first!
