How to add a zipper to a hoodie | Sewing tutorial
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Finding the clothes you want can be a challenge, sometimes things just aren't available the way you like them. But that's no reason to surrender to the fashion designers of the world! A sewing machine and some basic sewing skills are all you need to take things from "close enough" to "just how I want it".
In this case, I wanted a hoodie with a zipper, but they only had those in colors I didn't like. So I bought a regular hoodie and added the zipper myself :)

That tip about connecting the drawstrings and using the old one to pull the new one through was very clever!

I can never find zippered hoodies when I want them. This is perfect!! Thank you for making this look not scary! I am going to keep an eye out for hoodie sales now.

I'm using a tiedye hoodie for my Charlie Brown group dress up at work. I'm going to be Woodstock. Have the perfect size and color zipper from my collection already. Loved your video so clear and to the point. Florida Halloween can be hit or miss if it's going to be 85 or 35.
you are such an angel for making this tutorial. I’ve been struggling with learning to do proper zippers for ages and no one has put it in this simple of instructions. 😭❤️
literally after watching this i was like out shopping for a sewing machine..

Literally or actually?
That actually looks totally accessible for a regular human too! I might have to give it a go.
This is brilliant. I was halfway through the process and couldn't for the life of me think of a solution for the overlapping pieces of hood. I love the pleats placed away from the zip. That's an excellent solution. Thank you.
This is great. I’m always finding hooding that I wish were zip-ups. Thanks!
I've been seeing sooo many hoodies that I want but can't stand pullovers.... Problem solved!
You're making me want to go out and buy a sewing machine!
Exactly what I was looking for. Wanted to have the band at the neckline sit back in nicely.......you did a perfect fix for that. New subscriber. 🌹
I was very intimidated to try this until I found your video. After watching your instructions, I was able to add a zipper to a hooded sweatshirt by myself! Thank you so much!
Love it, so useful! I'm inspired to take this on with a couple pullover hoodies I have but don't wear (because they don't have zippers).

Zippers are the best 😁
THANK YOU!!!!! I watched another video how to do this but yours is MUCH easier to understand
Your sewing box is lovely, as is this tutorial!
You are awesome Ellen. You make intimidating tasks looks so straightforward and accessible.
You certainly make it look easy. Thank you for breaking it down so clearly. And I love your wooden sewing box!
I really enjoyed the tips for pleating and arranging the hood--super helpful! 😊
Great video, simple & easy to follow, thanks for cutting straight to the chase
Thank you so much for sharing these instructions, very easy and precise! Exactly what I was looking for!🥰
Super helpful. I've bee searching for a zip hoody from my favorite bands, but there aren't many options. Now I'll just get the one I want and ADD the zipper. Thanks for making this video.
Exactly what I needed. I just finished adding my zipper. Thank you for your fantastic tutorial.
Yes! Exactly what I needed, thank you for making it so clear!
Excellent job! I love zippered sweatshirts because I'm always either too hot or too cold. The way you finished off the hood was very clever. And I like the way you changed the drawstring, to "accessorize" the new zipper!
I love your technique, your style and also the sewing box! I have a few inherited from my grandma, that I cherish & use, reminiscing about her while sewing. Big hug from my heart to yours 🤗 And the end result looks awesome, too! I loved how you dealt with the overlapping hoodie situation, and everything looks like it belongs. Beautiful!
This is so freaking great! I was wondering how to do that for a long time but never had it stuck in my head for long enough to try to do it myself... but now I have a nice tutorial, ready made for me :) Thanks Ellen! Great video!
I have watched a few videos of people showing their methods. Yours is the best one I've found. Thank you!
Simple elegant way to customise clothing and make it your own! Kudos Ellen :)

Awesome stuff Ellen! 😃👍🏻👊🏻
Another awesome project, and too easy not to consider making it yourself. And frankly, I have had that problem before. But neither did I dare try, now did I think that it would be that "easy" (compared to what I thought it would take, at least). Thanks for sharing, Ellen!
Wow, great video! Well-shot, well-paced. Makes this look completely achievable, even for a novice like me! 🙂
You make it look so easy, I will give it a go. Thanks!
Thanks for sharing this clear tutorial!
Thank you that was super awesome. I need to make one of these hoodies minus the hood, and maybe make it sleeveless as well. I have very sensitivity skin, so I will need to line it as well. I love how this was so straight forward and no need for magical fuse-able interfacing.
Love this great for me as a beginner. Well explained I was confused with a couple other videos I had saw
Great video, huge help! Thanks Ellen. I am so happy you mentioned zipper foot. This is pretty easy, not so easy as Ellen makes it look! I used small binder clips. Locating the bottom of the zipper is important.
So clever, very nice. A joy watching the video and your voice is very soothing. Thank you for the video. Now to buy a sewing machine 😅
You make it look so easy Ellen😂 great video and tip😉
Thank you for showing me how to put a zipper in a hoodie. Also what I liked most is how you showed us how to take a pullover and put a zipper in. I don't like pull over's and I have a few my daughter's gave me. I love that's there's now two pockets! Thank you so much. I subscribed to your site and can't wait to see more of your video's.
You make it look so easy 😊. I love that ! Easy For You 😂. Well Done !
Amazing tutorial. Thank you!
I know this is going to sound stupid. But, I wish I had the patience to learn this stuff. I was offered, when I was in my late teens, but I got frustrated too easily and gave up. I LOVE your channel, and I'm grateful to Laura Kampf, for telling us about your channel. Thank you, whoooooooo

Perfect! Glad I watched this
Just what I needed. Thanks for the video.
Nicely done!
Cool video, great instructions. Awesome workmanship too, you make it look easy. : ) Mahalo for sharing!
Thank you! Just made my project so much easier!! I just received a bunch of old hoody’s I love but won’t wear due to my local climate. This is going to mean I can make them in to zip ups that I actually will wear! Thanks!
Cool adjustment, Ellen! Billy
My daughter found a beautiful, expensive printed hoodie that she was in love with, but we live in Texas. Aside from the brief, intense times when the world is covered in heavy ice, you usually don't wear a pull-over hoodie all day; you really need a zipper so that you can put it on in the cold morning, then take it off as the day warms. I really appreciate your helpful tutorial.
Your job was fantastic 😊
Perfect. First video I've seen on how to do this and I feel like it would come out looking perfect, at least for my first time sewing job, but on a serious note. I really do feel like id need no more research, maybe just watch your video a couple more times and keep it for a template video for myself. Easily explained and shown.
Thank you for this video. It was a breeze with an idea of what I was attempting to do!
Thanks a lot this is what exactly I’m looking for!! Keep it up for more ideas 💡
I have a really pretty pullover that I’m definitely going to try this with!
Very helpful video. Thank you.
Wow. So nicely done
Awesome! I was going to give my pullover away. Thanks for sharing this great idea!

I should have watched this ages ago! So many cool maker hoodies are pullover, but I prefer zippered! Of course I can make it myself.
