1/3 Ghazali's Beginning of Guidance (Bidayat al-Hidaya) | Mufti Abdur-Rahman ibn Yusuf

Title: Ghazali's Beginning of Guidance (Bidayat al-Hidaya)
Part 1 of 3 of Imam Ghazali's Beginning of Guidance course.
Imam al-Ghazali’s Bidayah al-Hidayah is a highly motivational manual detailing the fundamentals of acquiring guidance through God-consciousness (taqwa).
Imam al-Ghazali argues that just as there is an end to this noble objective there is also a beginning to it, which must be made firm for one to achieve success. He then goes on to expound the fundamentals of this “beginning.”
While being concise and to-the-point the manual is laid out in the form of a detailed daily timetable providing the reader strong inspiration and much heart-rending counsel.
The three sections of this book are on obedience, refraining from disobedience, and the etiquette of companionship with the Creator and with creation.
One of Imam al-Ghazali’s final works, it embodies a lifetime of learning, experience, and spirituality and can be taken as an introduction to his larger works.

It's vital for our generation to understand that scholars in the past did not feel that a scholar was discredited entirely just because he quoted weak narrations. They recognized the value in the message and even relayed it, despite their disagreements. Followers of these scholars today fight with each other as if the other side's scholar is a complete disbeliever, when the scholars themselves did not think in this manner. May Allah bless our Ummah with unity and steadfastness Aameen.

Weak narrations are acceptable in matters of A’mal. Of course the narration shouldn’t be very weak, but if the Hadith is not fabricated or very weak then the scholars have agreed that it can be used in matters of good actions.

Well said. In this age of sectarianism fueled by colonial divide and rule policies and traps; the muqallids and the self appointed spokespersons of sects are quick to takfir one another harming Muslim unity. Even among credible erudite Sunni and Shiite scholars in our premodern history there were no accusations of kufr even though they disagreed on some basic issues. Then we had unity and were powerful for good. We need to recover that unity for good of humanity and do so by being united in oneness of God, Quran and the exemplary model of the Prophet; his kin and his companions.

Sort your outside appearance first as it's easier Easier to apply piety outside even though it's difficult Personally For that you'll have to work on inner appearance to an extent (makes outer easier) Once outer is sorted, you become an example for Muslims so your inner appearance out of guilt for making Muslims look bad tends to fix on its own

Dear Sheykh, I love you for Allahs sake and I have been watching your lectures everyday. They are really helpful and profitable. I would even be so happy to meet you one day. But I had a question, why do you think that Imam Al Bukhari is of Turkish origin, because nowadays Bukhara and Samarkand belong to Uzbekistan? These cities were populated throughout the History by Tajik (Iranian) people. And even today more than half of their population are Tajik (Iranian) people and they speak in Persian as their mother tongue. Moreover almost all the Historians have recognised Imam Al Bukhari, Imam Abu Hanifa, Imam Tirmidzi as Persian 'Alims (of course except some Turkish Historians who have been distorting the History). The reason why I do write such a comment is that, I find it not beneficial and it is disinformation. I will not offend anyone and am not accusing you, my dear Sheykh but I also don't want to be offended.

Ni zal anything can be “mythologized,” but it’s better to focus on the Hadith of the Nabi ﷺ and not to add stories and tales to it. The most valuable mention, in my opinion, is the advice that the prophet ﷺ gave that if the dajjal appears we should continue on our business. In this way, we shouldn’t fantasize about him either. Vijay Malleta it is more complicated than that. it is a philosophical argument about the origin of the laws of cause and effect, which also include the laws of nature: physics, chemistry, biology etc. try to imagine it like this: a certain input A (cause) results in an output B (effect), the latter forms again an input, which results in output C (effect following B) and so on. Is it that A has the intrinsic activity/property to form B, thus claiming that B totally depends on A (without the direct involvment of Allah)? claiming that would mean that you deprive Allah of his totallytary/absolute/infinite power and rulings, because then Allah creates A (with a potential to give an output itself) and lets A do all the job from there on (thus no direct involvment of Allah, meaning his power ad ruling is not absolute/infinite). However, we say that Allah does not give A the intrinsic potential to give an output B, but output B (and C, and D and so on) is (directly) totally dependent on Allah, and Allah has put the A, B, C and so on in that linear sequence because Allah whishes that way. Allah uses A only as a sham prior to B. Again your example with the fire and cotton: it is not that cotton melts (output B) because of the fire (input A), but because the cotton asks permission to Allah to melt because it is near the fire (B follows A, BUT not necessarily) and Allah gives the permission to melt. It is the same as in the qur'an when prophet Ibrahim (a.s) is trown into the fire, and Allah says to the fire: be cool and peaceful to ibrahim (21/69).

Vijav, for his time, he has provided building blocks for thinkers, he gives you the platform on which you can transport whatever you wish. In a scientific research and philosophical thinking it’s important to have a method. if you don’t have a method you’re not gonna get the same result , because everything you’re doing is random. Just because you don’t understand something it doesn’t mean that it’s not worth anything.it might be because you’re not in the wave you don’t feel the same way as others. Or alternatively you’re just being a silly poppadom
