1/18 FERRARI 288 GTO - KK Scale model VS Hotwheels Elite Model
This is a very interesting comparison of these 2 models, I always liked my HWE Ferrari 288 GTO, but after filming this video, it is quite evident that the HWE version is quite off in the shape. I am disappointed now as I always prefer an opening model over a sealed model. Enjoy the video.

I am convinced that Hot Wheels did not make their own casting for the 288 GTO but simply took the bburago one and gave it an accurate paintjob, and swapped the rims and tail lights for better ones.

@@justrandomstuff84 yup. and same thing happened when UT models who also had the ferrari license went bankrupt. And then it gets more confusing because for some cars for which UT toolings already existed, hot wheels decided to make their own tooling as well. Like with the F355, where hot wheels used to sell the UT tooling for the first few years but then made their own F355.
I have to admit the KK model looks more accurate all around

It does, pity the quality is not that good and it is a sealed model
Happy New Year Rob, great comparison
HWE version is just a glorified Bburago, which in self is maybe 30 years old model. So not really surprising that KK has more accurate shape.

Even age is not an excuse, many UT models from way back when are way more accurate than more modern renditions of the same cars.
Hey this is a great comparison video! As I do a lot of automotive photography with scale models the accuracy is a big factor. Thanks for making it :)

Great models Ferrari 288 GTO , comparison between KK models and Hot Wheels Elite . I like the both variants but if I must chose , I chose the KK model . Thank you for sharing this great video , my friend ! 👏👏👏🥇🏆👍🎩👌
Got the KK and must say for the money it is a beauty.

Yes, but I wish the build quality was better.
Although the HWE is less accurate, it does seem to look better in isolation as it looks more tough and stanced. I'll happily stick with my HWE .
Awesome comparison Rob! Request pls if you can make a comparison video between the CMC and CMR Fiat 642 rn2 Bartoletti Ferrari transporter trucks? Thanks Rob!
Hey rob can you do a video on your top 5 best models for the price i would be so happy
I have a KK model coming but do you like the GT Spirt better? Also what would be the price of a KK in your opinion at this time please. Thxs
I’d love to see a comparison between the KK Scale& the BBR 288 GTO. Think it’ll be interesting to see if the KK car can take a run for its money 💰

I am buying a BBR now, but the KK has just been sold, so I won't be able to do a comparison between those 2, sorry.
Rob - great review as ever. Question - have you ever converted (or thought about) a sealed to an opening model?
@ROBSMODELCARS
3 жыл бұрын
I have not converted one yet, but have thought about the idea. Resin models are constructed so different to opening diecast models that it would be quite the task to do so, but I may in the future tackle such a project.
Great comparison!! Thanks for the useful review. My conclusion is that I'd rather not buy both of them. :)

Fair enough!
great comparo Rob. KK did a fine job for the money its easy to see why they are in the running some places for model of 2020 but really like you say its a shame none of the major players have touched this car in a proper detailed open diecast. Autoart could make a killing on the GTO... buy the license AA! lol
I had the Hot Wheel Elite 288 GTO (in yellow) eons ago but sold it many years ago because I couldn't stand how "off" it looks - the side-view comparison is the best example. The Hot Wheels looks like they borrowed the BMW 850i molding from Maisto, and then tweaked it to make it look like a 288GTO. The F40 Hot Wheels Elite is the biggest atrocity from Mattel (I have the LM version and it looks whack) - if I remember during my days of trolling diecast forums, the Bburago Ferrari F40 that costs $30 has body proportions that are more accurate than the Hot Wheels.
The Tamiya 12th scale version is the best die cast of the GTO.

It is definitely the best one for the Ferrari GTO, however it is not a decast model. It mostly made from hard plastic.
If it's just for display, the KK-Scale models of the 288 GTO, the F40 and F50 are a really solid buy. In terms of the car's shape and details (exterior at least), they actually give even the premium brands a run for their money. Their build quality isn't as good and they are sealed, but again, if it's just for display, they are solid buys. I have all 3 of these (288 GTO, F40, F50), but I will eventually trade them for the BBR once I get enough money to buy them.
I would love to see an Amalgam 288 GTO compared with the real car.
Grandes modelos
Thanks for doing this! I'm planing to get a gt spirit 288 what do you think about that one? It would be greate to compare it with one of this

I have not seen the GT Spirit model in person, but I won't be buying that one, besides I have sold both these models in this video and purchased a BBR Ferrari 288 GTO which is on the way.

Hi Rob This is Frank Miner from the states. I was wondering if you ever sale any of your cars? I have been looking for a TSM Mclaren LMXP1. If not may you could help me find one.

I do always have models for sale, they are listed on my eBay store (Robs Model Cars) but I can sell them outside of eBay for a cheaper price. I don't however have a TSM Mac for sale.
That is the sad things about the 1/18 scale Ferrari 288 for an opening model. I finally go with the 1/12 scale of the Tamiya Ferrari GTO for that car. Cause I really like the 288 GTO and I want an opening model.
I prefer the Hotwheels Elite version personally. But one thing I hate about the elite version is the horrid windscreen wipers. They always seem to stick out and look really bad on the Hotwheels version.

which one would you buy?
Hello, someone can tell me if the GT Spirit version is better the KKs please?
I have a 2001 HW 1/38 288 gto and have not seen it in any website and have no idea how much it worth now.
No one mentioned Looksmart, which is the most accurate of all including the BBR version.

The comparison was asked for as many have the Hotwheels Elite version and many bought the new KK scale version so that is why those 2 were compared. I do have a BBR 288 GTO coming (hopefully, it has been months) and the GT Spirit version was not out when I filmed the comparison.
Try 288 GTO by GT Spirit

the Wheels look ugly by GT Spirit, so just wait for the Topmarques Model
Yeah, the KK shape was spot on. If in display, I will choose KK. But still, Hotwheels got an engine..
отличная модель
I actually own the hotwheels elite version. I paid a pretty penny for it. 2nd most expensive model in my collection too. I'm also not impressed with the details you mentioned.
@ROBSMODELCARS

Yeah I was gutted when I compared the 2 models side by side. So I just sold the HWE and the KK and am buying a BBR as it is more accurate than those 2 models
Don't forget now Tonka made a 288 GTO . I don't have a Hot Wheels Ferrari 288 I do have a Tonka 288
Technically nice comparison, it could be a good start to an interesting series. But I would definitely choose the GT Spirit - model. Although there are mistakes, it is nicely processed and its shape is good. In addition, it has cut-outs in the hood. .In addition, the KK Scale has too big wheels, it spoils the silhouette.
So which one better ??
@ROBSMODELCARS

Up to you, but I said which one is more accurate in the video.
Well I guess I was wrong 😕 oh well I still like the Hot Wheels better

@@justrandomstuff84 gt spirit looks more accurate to me kk look like a toy, bbr and looksmart are impossible to find
in my eyes the KK Scale is like a overdramatized idealized 288 GTO...and the HW/HW Elite/Bburago is a boring flat 288...the real car is something between these two...it shocks me how KK Scale made the rims too big, and front wheel arches too wide...in 2020 !

I have A yellow KK model of it
The real winner in a side by side comparison, is your wallet.
Hey Rob have u bought you a real super car yet. Have sold all of your diecast cars
Honestly, from what I did see so far, the 288 GTO is the worst HWE model from the lineup. It's just quite terrible, and since you do have the HWE version you can truly tell if it is.
Man you won't believe how cheesy is the interior of the HW Elite: The steering wheel looks fat like a pizza 🍕and the instrument gauges Is Just a sticker
Yeah I lv the kk better
The hot wheels version is horrible actually! So many inaccurate details! And to call it Elite!!
Kk is not near as good as the Hot Wheels Ferrari. The kk sucks
