Thank you. I just bought my Subaru and the fluids needed changed drastically. I had never done transmission fluid and filter and was kinda unsure. Your video was very useful and another DYI project ended successfully.

Hi Tom, Now that we are trying to DYI our car issues ourselves my next target is the AC. any idea on how to make the air colder. It does work but doesn't cool enough. Thanks for your help. I also Have an old Subaru forester 2.5L 2005 and it s a great car.

i just bought a 07 x model with 103k great condition but i changed everything from the batteries to breaks rims wheels wires plugs filters. but im new to subaru and i thought it had two dipsticks for the trans fluid i accidentally learned you have to have the differential stick real snug its not like the oil. so some came out i smelled it and i topped it off with atfluid ! i read that it wasnt horrible but im going to change the timing n water pump got aisin kit also oil and filter again i guess ill have to drain it and refill it i dont have the manual im learning as i go along. Ive leased a few and my wife has a wrx but i havent had to maint anything in a bit im in my 50z i dabble im no mechanic. I wont have it in the shop for two weeks but i dont drive the thing much anyway, i bought a new diehard silver and it lasted four months turns out had a bad cell was a pain the thing would say it was good but whenever you get a jump and then test the battery it will give a false full reading. they wind up replacing after an hour of trying smh. but im getting the timing done new waterpump is their anything you recommend that im going to need? i got new brake kit drums rotors pads rims tires all new from the waste down. im trying to make this my a to b car thats it.

If you are doing the timing components take the extra time and check your cam seals.

If you take care of them they can last a long time. Maintenance is key with Subarus.

ive changed everything i could so far n no leaks no smoke no slippage no lights even the spare tire in the trunk is brand new was never touched the inside and engine bay all immaculate surprisingly, i had a broken tire rod was the only issue ive had in 7 months asides for me embarrassingly put atf in the differential lol! but i learn quick hahahh. i feel like a teenager cuz i havent been in a situation to do my own maintenance in a long time. I thank you very much for your time and patience with me brother. if you think of anything else pls dont hesitate! my mechanic only really messes with subarus he fixes them and sells them also and owns one so i trust my man more than most he put me on to aisin timing kit he said he tried everything else and this is a little more but its worth it come with water pump and all trimmings. changed serpentine belt also so im trying to make it sturdy a to b car.@@toolshedadventures

I am so glad I found this video. I have a 2001 Forester and it sometimes shifts really hard especially between 2nd and 3rd gear and then it will run for a month with no issue and then do it again occasionally. I had the transmission serviced (basic drain & fill) at the dealer, but still does it occasionally. Of course, it never does it when I take it somewhere to have it looked at. Is that the same problem you were having and did this full flush help yours? Anyone who reads this, I’d appreciate any advice!!! Thank you.

When I did the flush it did help and the transmission shifted better. Making sure you do the filter is critical and you may need to do multiple flushes. Now one thing I can never recommend is a flush that uses a machine because it can sometimes clean the transmission out too much and can actually cause problems.

100 kilometers a day? That's like 60 miles. I drive 215 miles a day to and from work. I do an oil change every month on my 08 Forester.

is there a transmission filter in the pan or just the screw in one outside

There is a "screen" but its not necessary to remove. Just the spin on filter.

That year should have a screw on transmission filter on the side of the transmission.
