06 Forester - Block Heaters, Oil Coolers and O2 Sensors

A few things needed to be fixed or looked at and since everything was in the same area just decided to knock it all out at once.

Stumbled across this video, what a pleasure to watch someone else working on their Subaru! I learned a few things, thanks for taking the time to make and post this.

I’ve had the same trouble code, and changed the O2 sensor twice, and it’s not cheap. Check the tightness of the gas refill cap. And clean or replace the EGR valve. It’s a cheap part but not easy to get at. I soaked mine in WD for 15, gave it a few shakes, and now I’m now getting 400km per tank, instead of 300 km., and no more oxygen sensor trouble codes.

Thanks for the helpful video. Someone had welded (poorly) a replacement cat on my ‘05 forester before I rescued it from the scrap yard in 2020. I ended up replacing every section of that exhaust system, from the block to tailpipe. But the new catalytic converter section didn’t line up with the tail pipe section, and required extra welding. I double checked all parts and part numbers just to make sure I ordered correctly. Everything was from the dealership. 2.5X SOHC. 25EJ engine. Mine has a block heater as well. I wonder if block heaters are standard on all Subaru’s sold in the Canadian market?
