As the evening fell on the Greater Saint Louis area, a supercell began to mature as it moved into the area. This supercell reportedly produced a tornado per NWS St. Louis as they witnessed debris via doppler radar. This package includes a rapidly rotating wall cloud around the time of the first tornado warning issuance and storm structure with and without the Arch in the foreground.

I went into the grocery store and walked out to this in the sky haha. One thing the camera doesn't capture was just how GREEN the sky looked. Driving home I was driving directly towards it, as someone not originally from a tornado state - this stuff always puts a sort of biblical fear in me. Tornado ended up being indicated on radar a small handful of miles east of me within 10 mins of getting home.

I was driving on 141, and saw this north/west of me, heading NE like they always do. Looked capable of producing when I was near it.

For 58 years, I have resided in California without ever encountering any major storms or natural disasters, aside from occasional small earthquakes. However, when I watch videos from other states, I see frequent occurrences of tornadoes, hurricanes, and tsunamis. I am puzzled by why people choose to continue living in these states despite the frequent disasters.

Why do tornadoes produce hail before one touches down?

  • @TiredMomma

They don't always. We had an all of a sudden tornado warning one night when it was just a light drizzle of rain, no lightning, no winds. Started with power flicker, then severe thunderstorm warning. So I closed down the console game I was playing and shut off the power to it, and then tornado warning went off. From that point it took only 2 minutes to run upstairs, wake kids, get go basement. Winds blasted us quick out of nowhere. Tornado warning lasted 5 min. It vanished after it passed us.

@@iHeffy something that kept being on my mind last night is school sports like track meets. There's supposed to be a track meet tmrw all the way up in Wentzville, aka Timberland as it's noted. We've gone all the way down to St. James and Steelville for cross country events before. I love the drive down there.
