I did 5000 manhour crowther 40' cat in 1980, cruised Caribbean 10 yrs, sold her into day charter, memories are still VERY strong and intact. The very best way to consume our finite lifespan. God bless German engineering!!! I'm American and was 🏆 about the total cost of the build expectations especially when you're using lightweight and strong carbon fiber.. I'm a biker and I have recently fallen in love with sailing. I don't want to buy a cookie cutter catamaran like everyone else and have 3 kids that are old enough to help.. I definitely don't need anything as big as your project but have been looking at Richard Woods designs out of the UK.. he's got a wonderful 35 foot catamaran that has a great layout..

I looked on the webpage of R. Woods designs and I don't know what design you mention. There are good designs, however very old and far from modern trends. I will suggest you to look for other designers.

I came across your videos last night. Very impressive build! I was especially impressed by the fact that the design is your own. I'm currently looking into the various options to build a performance cat myself, and have been thinking of self design too, but I am not confident that I would be able to get it right... I would really be interested in hearing more about how you went about designing it and working out the various loads on the structure.

First, thank you for the appreciation. Yeah, it is a lot of engineering job, when you want to design such a big catamaran. For designing of traditional boats/catamarans with traditional technology and materials you can get help from DIN EN ISO (series 12215 - 12217) and ABS regulations, where are normative references and calculations for design. However if you want to build experimental, performance, or racing catamaran using "exotic" materials and technology, you have to go trough complex engineering calculations to get it right. Nowadays you can get good support from CAD/CAE. For example for loads/materials calculations I used FEA from Solid Edge. Anyway, please don't give up. The designing itself is a exiting thing, not to say about the building process and ...sailing.

Beautiful project. Congratulations for this hard working... I bought a cat project but I don´t have time to start... May be in next two or more years I can start one, but no more than 32 feet.

We will need still much time to finish it. Good is that we will close the boat (windows, hatches, port-lights), and finish hull outside painting this summer. Than we will be able to work inside whole year, independent from air temperature outside. First sailing? We plan within two years.

Lookikg fantastic! I’m curious about the inside space. It seems like the companionway is a bit narrow, but with those narrow hulls, you cannot do it any other way I guess!

Thanks! Yes, it was a challenge to get the companionway wide enough that one doesn't need to walk sidewards.

Wow such a beautiful boat project it is an amazing design and the carbon work looks professional. How heavy are the hulls like it is in this video. It looks like it will be a very fast boat.

After it is tried and tested I would interest to have the plans and build my own.You can make good money selling this boats cutting files and plans.But boat has to prove itself at ocean against it's opponent's.I wish you and your family best with this build.

Thanks for the wishes? Yes, as I already commented under Part 02 video, we want first to prove everything. However we do have already proved the design and our calculations - the extreme rigidity of the hull overwhelmed our very high expectations!

Awesome size cat and an unreal build guys. I only have one question and that is seeing that it’s a 15m long cat which is around about 50 feet, I’m curious why you didn’t make the main cabin bigger?

Thank you for appreciation. Any design you make, have a lot of compromises and you need first to decide what is important and what is less important for you. In case of JANU-15 (CarbonBee) very important was the performance and seaworthiness of the design. My design is an real ocean-going catamaran, which can easy go over the waves with high speed. That is why the bridge is high and far from the bows - the waves have reduced chance to hit the bridge, slowing the boat, make extreme noise and stress for the whole structure. Slow boats could have other design features and be still bearable, but CarbonBee is an another tier- see the last picture in our video-part-01. CarbonBee has also a lot of different other solutions to get the properties, we wanted to have. Despite that that the bridge is relatively short CarbonBee have a big area in the cabin, where we have big sofa with table, kitchen, navigation table, steering wheel and all the operating lines, winches etc. Cabin has an area of 5,7x2,8 m, where you have full standing height. Additionally in the cabin is another 10 m² where you have a height for sitting, not to say about huge free cockpit. The production catamarans, nowadays manufactured generally for charter are a caricatures of catamaran. Unfortunately, the publicum is used to think that these designs, with non-aerodynamic lines, double storied, with sailing ability only with the support of engines, slow and heavy, are the right designs. Why? - because people see only such designs overall. I agree, such catamarans are good, extremely good to stay in the port as a condominium, or for short trips under motor. That is, why I call them condomarans.

I would have loved to have been able to do the quality work your doing and have been able to build my own boat and travel the world by sea but unfortunately for me I became a paraplegic when I was 39 so all I get to do is admire the work of others here on KZread. Robert, all the parameters including the weight, displacement etc. were defined during the design process. Guessing is not a good method for such big project. Please look on the description under the video and on my responses on the comments under the videos in my channel (parts 01 to 04 up to now). There are a lot of information about the project. At the end of the Video-Part-01 is also a chart showing the comparison to other catamarans.

Dziękuję. Szukaliśmy w Polsce miejsca na budowę blisko wody. Było kilka opcji, ale oznaczałoby to, że musielibyśmy się przeprowadzić, a tu mamy w miarę idealne miejsce i tylko 15 km od naszego domu. Poza tym Kevin może pomagać w budowie jednocześnie studiując w Berlinie.
