I tend to enjoy the episodes with the "OG 3" more than ones with guest appearances, but that said, Meredith is so articulate, funny, and charismatic, she was a perfect addition and I hope we see more of her in front of the camera! Also, depending on how much you believe in the multiverse theory, maybe there's a universe where that accident was the picture-wrap on the old Bergoose, but I am glad it's not this universe and Ryan is alive and well.

@Thebogeybro did you listen to the podcast? Do you not consider Ryan's similar accident "near-death" like he does? Neither he or I are talking about a lil fender-bender here. I rolled my car over and upside down into a ditch. I was told by first responders that it's a miracle I wasn't hurt. Ryan got lucky too. I'm assuming you've never been in a serious car accident, which is a good thing. But it isn't your place to diminish the severity of someone's traumatic and dangerous experience.

I almost died when my apartment caught fire. Its was an electrical fire that started in the basement/laundry area. 5 stories directly under me. It happened in the early morning(4-5 am) and me and my wife worked night shift at that time together. We are normally not home. I went home early because i worked all day at my other job and needed to sleep before my next shift.( I was in my 20s and had 3 jobs at this point) again we are normally not home and my neighbors knew that. And told the firefighters that so they didn't even check my apartment. I was in there sleeping. The fire started. I wake up to a smoke filled place, alarms, cats i cant get ahold of to save and on top of that i had a chinchilla in a cage. I eventually panic because i cant see or breathe. I center myself some to remember where i am in the apartment. I can't make it out at this point as well so i throw a chair threw my living room window and i just make my way to the windows in my bedroom. Open it stick my head/part of my body out and start screaming. I eventually past out from smoke inhalation. While i was out hanging out a window about to actually fall out of it the firefighters "searched" the building for people, "searched" it again for animals, all while not even checking my apartment and what i found out later was only our apartment mainly(top floor) that got all the smoke and it only got my side of the floor our neighbors side was untouched. So i wake up just barely holding on to the furnace under the window. Literally about to fall out. I wake up from I kid you not a vision of me being handed my soon to be born child for the first time.(Wow) There were firefighters under me breaking the windows to the basement to help fight the fire and didn't notice i was above them hanging out the window. I tried to scream to them but my voice was gone. So i dropped a alarm clock on there heads(like come on wake up there are still people in here.lol) They came up so fast and grabbed me by the arms I didn't even touch a step on the way down. Went to the hospital and was about to be put in and iron lung before i started to fight it and get better. The firefighters had a serious mistake on there hands. They shouldn't have just listened to the neighbors and because they did i almost died and we lost our 2 cats,a chinchilla, a job(because they didn't believe me at first), and everything else we owned.

My issue with Ryan's declaration is equating killing with being a "horrible, horrible thing" 100% of the time. There's definitely a case-by-case argument for killing being the more merciful/moral option in a scenario. Cold-blooded murder of an innocent person is different from shooting someone holding your family hostage is different from mercy-killing someone in pain who will inevitably die anyway.

  • @suski_dusk

100%. Cold-blooded murder? No. But some murderer breaks into my house and is trying to axe my loved ones, absolutely no doubt whatsoever and I don't feel bad saying it (and I admittedly struggle to understand the viewpoint of those who say they definitely wouldn't. I used doubt a bit if I could physically make myself do it...until an event happened in my teens that made that hypothetical very, very real and personal. After that? Oh absolutely).

tbf I think the problem with thinking "oh in the future we won't own our digital content and it could go away forever" is that /everything/ could go away forever there could be a huge natural disaster and you can lose all of those physical things you have too, but then those digital things would still remain on the cloud it can happen either way, and I used to struggle with thinking that way a lot when I was a kid I would be playing with my barbies and suddenly think "some day I won't enjoy this anymore, what even is the point right now?" and I wouldn't receive fulfillment from playing in that moment it's only once I got past that sort of thinking of "this could go away forever" that I could actually enjoy things because EVERYTHING will eventually be gone forever and that's okay we can enjoy it now

It's incredibly frightening to think about the things we think are so normal (photos, digital songs, digital word) just disappearing, but it's so important. Take up a hobby, and if it produces something tangible, gift them to your friends!

In light of recent events, would just like to point out: 1. Congrats, you have just made a decision that will make your KZread viewership even unhealthier. 2. Maybe watcher's financial woes comes less from youtube being a burden then your staff mismanagement and disinterest in being a boss and making the decisions that come along with that title

Re: physical hobbies I sew and crochet and I love that I then have what I've created. Also, I print pictures out for my kids to look at in photo albums and buy movies we like on dvd so that we have them if they're removed from streaming.

By the way, there is a theory called Quantum Death in which everytime you come to a moment you should die, your conscience switches to another parallel dimension where you survived and you die in the past dimension. As an interesting idea, you kind of just keep doing that for infinitum!

I recently picked up crochet and painting ceramics and not only do I love doing them for myself but making blankets is my friends and family’s favorite color or ceramics in their likeness is so rewarding

32:24 That near death experience is very similar to a situation a close friend of mine and my sister ran into, they were driving my Honda Accord, and hydroplaned but instead of barrel rolling, they rammed straight into the guard rail. Sure enough, the airbags didn't go off for them either, but they're ok now, crazy how close the two are in similarity!

It’s crazy how much I relate to Meredith, more of her pls. I’m also a do everything girl, really strong big kid, I learn sm from my 4 siblings, don’t have a dad but my bro is 6’7" and since I was young I have always been able to wake myself in a nightmare which was the crazy part she said that, only thing is, she is much much more chill and cooler than me

Interesting topics. I totally get the point of bringing your interests into the physical world, but would however argue that dance is 100% a physical hobby! Same as gardening or baking as is mentioned at the end. I make and craft my costume, I create and form an act, as fluid and changeable as it is, and I hold it with me until I perform again. The end result isn't necessarily physical but I feel like the process is just as literal and to me that's almost more important. And it also takes away from just owning yet more useless 'stuff' or endless physical 'things'.

26:06 I’m pretty excited to hear someone else is weird like my husband! Per many sleep studies he never gets into restorative levels of sleep. Normally when people are about to wake up, they can control their dreams & this is only the level of sleep he can attain even with many sleep meds. They have no clue why. Sleep wasn’t an issue for him until he turned 30 & he basically hasn’t had a good night sleep ever since. Hope this doesn’t become an issue for Meredith one day!

Two of my three "Near Death Experiences" as per what y'all described (not what I was expecting) were allergic reactions. Once was when I was 5 years old in response to food (including soya milk) that I had been having every weekend since I could eat solid food pretty much, which was what got me diagnosed with food allergies (nuts, soya, so much stuff). The second was after having some supposedly safe food at steakhouse in an international airport at around 12. The paramedics refused to help with the EpiPen so my sister ended up helping me out cos I was freaked out by not being able to breathe and being SUPER itchy all over. Final NDE? 8 years old. Went to the nearby park with my Dad and maybe brother. They go to play football or something, leaving me in a walking/free play kinda area that has a bunch of concrete and some metal bar fence things (just a few in a wider part of the path). I try to copy "the girls" at school flipping themselves over the bars that surrounded the school field (there's a path on one side, field on the other). I momentarily sit on the bar and tip forward. Next thing I know, my chin is bleeding. I must've yelled or screamed. I got stitches and then braces - the impact kind of shifted my jaw.

I also love getting physical editions of media - especially movies and video games. I have all the original PS2 and PS1 copies of my favorite games, and until my PS2 called it quits two years ago, I had my original system as well. I feel so nostalgic and fulfilled, even just looking at my collection of games and knowing I own them. It scares me that we might lose the ability to play a lot of these games entirely, either with systems or with the move to digital leaving things behind.
