These videos are in no way meant to replace the purchasing of commercially produced DVDs of SCTV. Making this series available is in no way meant to break copyright law. I am hoping fans of the series will have renewed interest in SCTV and will spread the word about this Classic Canadian Comedy Legend.
I have included all 185 episodes of the Syndicated Series of SCTV. Please note that the Syndicated Series has material not available on the current crop of DVDs, and also that the DVDs have material not available in the Syndicated Series. Please note that there is also material not available in either.
This means that at this time, the complete series is not commercially available for purchase. I hope you will consider signing the online petition at www.change.org/p/shout-factor...

Won't happen. Would love to see it on DVD, Blu-Ray or streaming, but it won't happen. One major factor is rights issues with music, especially in the early years when they used a lot of copyrighted music. In that sense "SCTV" could be considered street art.

WOR's airing of "SCTV" in its first two years in U.S. syndication was most ironic - as Channel 9 was every bit as uber-cheap and no-budget in its operation (as were RKO General's other TV properties) as the fictitious "SCTV."

Based on that initial segment alone, I've long wondered if the name "Johnny La Rue" was a riff on exercise guru (and early TV personality) Jack La Lanne - this in spite of the La Rue character being entirely opposite in terms of lifestyle. But that Mr. Candy subsequently died of heart disease, I can see the sad irony in this.

That's how it started out in the first few episodes, before his name was shortened to what we all know today. I thought I saw some hints of Pittsburgh TV news legend Bill Burns in him . . . and (O')Flaherty grew up in Pittsburgh . . .

I have the DVDs, but they don’t have a track listing on the boxes or anything. It’s absolutely insane that this isn’t available anywhere. Any plans to upload the Network 90 episodes as they were, not the syndication cuts?
