    Razer Controller is fine, Upward stick drift in a shooter isn’t a problem, you should be pulling down on your stick anyway to control recoil

  • @thephototechy

    Hey so drift in any direction is fine if the centre point is correct, right now I need a 7% deadzone which affects the bottom for no reason. If I was able to adjust the centre point to distribute that 8% equally, I can get away with ony 3-4% deadzones. This is a feature available in alot of cheaper controllers and can potentially save a lot of older controllers, that even have more than 10% drift. As the sticks lose resolution over time that 8% I have right now will become over 13-14% at that point I'll need a new controller, when in reality I could still play with a deadzone I'm playing with right now. Issue here is not for new devices but making them last longer with a very simple and effective solution that is not being implemented. But things are moving in the right direction as PDP have a way to do this but it's tricky so does the stealth ultra but again very tricky to do.

    Finally, someone talking about this. Razer and Victrix employ "forced deadzones" and they are horrible. When the deadzone is 'forced' by the controller manufacturer then it CANNOT be disabled by in-game options, or even by 3rd-party software.

  • @thephototechy

    @thephototechy

    Hey so I always thought it wasn't a big deal as we can change the in game deadzones to 0, but like I said we definitely need the option to decide how much deadzones we need. Also there is no info on how much deadzones these manufacturers are using, its a guessing game for us. The issue is I've spoken to people who thinks that the sticks should have an absolute perfect centre every time, like I mentioned that can only be achieved with deadzones.

    @@thephototechy Photo Techy, if the deadzone is "forced" on the controller via firmware then it CANNOT be adjusted by any in-game options. This has happened before with Razer controllers like the first V2 which had a forced 25% deadzone which cannot be adjusted. Also, another detail is that if a controller has a 20% forced deadzone then the game deadzone gets added ON TOP, for an even larger deadzone.

    It's so that less experience players can compete against better player. It's part of their hit registration patent. It's a multiplier. Your accuracy increase or decrease depending on how well or badly you play. Everything is engineered. I have the same drift problem since mw2. On days it's perfect. But this only happens in Ranked in my experience. Not multi-player

    I think this is the next frontier in joysticks, whether they use potentiometers or hall effect sensors. If the capability to easily set our own center points becomes a standard, then game devs will follow suit with the features they program into their games (as they did by allowing us to set our deadzones because of the rise of controller drift). Obviously there'll be a point where the spring becomes so worn/degraded that replacing the entire module outright will be better, but I think this is a strong interim solution. Sadly I also think the hardware companies will oppose this because of planned obsolescence, hits to their bottom line, yadda yadda. And yeah, there's nothing wrong with taking this stuff seriously. It's because of people like you who showcase these issues, and people like Jun Zeng who get bright ideas and do something about it, that keep pushing the envelope forward, so keep on keeping on!

    I overclock my gamesir g7 se to 100hz and use a second controller for audio. I've had this multiple times with crossplay on, and thought it was my overclock breaking on my controller or the game applying my second controllers deadzone and response rate. Now i see it was just COD this whole time (of course). I play 0% deadzone 90% of the time and 1% deadzone the rest of the time. If I get a good calibration I am under 1% drift sometimes it is slightly over. Great insight on how deadzone will help drift but will actually hurt your aim because the drift is normally on some diagonal that is hard to compensate for with the deadzone. Hence why i play 0-1% I have been trying to figure out what I prefer most settings in game and controller wise : raw mode / deadzone / sensitivity / 500hz overclock vs 1000hz etc. Currently I use 0% deadzone , raw mode off, 100hz overclock, 10 horizontal sensitivity 11 vertical , dynamic response curve (MW3) . Just hit Crimson in ranked multiplayer yesterday Great video as always man!

    Great vid, agreed on everything. Also outer deadzones are pretty important given most of these companies dont even properly calculate the molds/rings to allow for proper range of motion of the stick. Seen some controllers hitting 100% far before the joystick actually hits the edge causing less steps and a more sensitive feeling stick.

    Hey man so I only play around 30% of my time on PS5, so far I haven’t seen this on ps5 at all. But what you mentioned about aim feeling off, that’s how I found out what this bug was. There is no pop up on ps5 to turn crossplay on after every match like it’s on Xbox, and I do believe that’s when it happens. The best way to tell is to keep your deadzones at a value where you have some drift, I always keep it like that anyway and whenever I felt something off I realised there was no drift and that’s how I knew about it. I’ll definitely keep an eye out on ps5 as well.

  • @EoPArceye
    @EoPArceye4 ай бұрын

    While you are possibly correct in stating it as a bug, has it not occurred to people that it might be the game auto calibrating a dead zone to remove what it sees as drift. people complain so much about drift maybe the game devs have done it deliberately. The fact it sees drift again when the game is restarted also backs up the thought of it being an automated calibration in the game adding dead zone to overcome what the game sees as drift. I do completely agree that all controller manufacturers should give software and a method of reducing the deadzone if the user wants to.

  • @thephototechy

    Hey that’s an interesting point, but this never happened to me on PS5, and I’ve experienced this on controllers with built in deadzones, that’s the first couple of times when I completely missed it thinking my connection has issues. It was only discovered by me whilst playing with controllers with true 0 deadzones, so I honestly believe it to be a bug as it shouldn’t have happened on controllers with forced deadzone and no drift.

    Nice video these types of issues need to be reported. I was under the impression that deadzones don’t add. If a controller has built in 3% and the game has 10% I assumed by the time the stick deflects to 10% it would pass the 3% built in. Do they only add when the controller has a higher deadzone than in game? After thinking about it makes sense that they can add I just don’t know if it’s in both cases or only if the controllers is higher.

  • @thephototechy

    @thephototechy

    4 ай бұрын

    Hey so when the controller has 3% that means it’ll only send a register to the machine after the stick goes out of 3% circle, at this point game thinks there is a 1% register, so if the game force a deadzone that applies after the controller’s deadzone and doubles up. Honestly if the game allows 0 deadzones then it’s a non issue, but now that I’ve experienced more than a few times, for me I need 0 on the controller side for sure.
