The debt was as much of an unrepayable moral one as anything else; the interest on the loan wasn't a sum, but what was returned to him in witnessing his justified trust.

Wow, this is an argument from what seems to be a very nice guy about how exorbitant interest rates in predatory short term lending aren't a bad thing. Sure, there are fixed costs to be considered, but in reality these types of loans aren't made a single time. Instead they occur over and over again and the financial institutions lending the money DO have large sums constantly loaned out at these rates. The default rates are higher than on most longer term loans, but not sufficient to justify the insanity.

most people i have met in my life dont understand how percentages work. figuring APR out would melt their brain, even if you explained it to them fully. best to just not bother. if you cant figure this out on your own, your just not meant to understand it, and most likely wouldnt no matter how much effort was put into it.

Believe it or not, this might be the most important thing you ever read… How do you get saved? How do you go to Heaven? What does the Bible say about salvation? Here’s salvation plain and simple: All have fallen short of God’s glory and perfect moral standard: all have sinned (Romans 3:23), and just one sin makes us deserving of Hell (James 2:10). I’ve lied, you’ve lied . . pretty simple. God requires absolute perfection to enter Heaven because He is perfectly holy and righteous. God doesn’t want us to be separated from Him, He loves us and He loves you . . . the Bible says He is a loving friend who sticks closer than a brother. Would a loving God make salvation difficult? Of course not! What did He do to fix this sin problem? God left Glory in Heaven, manifested Himself in the flesh as a human, Jesus Christ, never once sinned, perfectly fulfilled the law, did not deserve punishment, yet He became OUR sin for US. John the Baptist said about Jesus: “Behold the lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.” Colossians 2:14 says “Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;” And, right before Jesus died, He declared “It is finished!” In other words, the debt of sin has been paid off in full (past, present, and future sins) by His death on the cross. He finished all of the work, and thus, there is no work for you to do. Ephesians 2:8-9 says “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that NOT OF YOURSELVES: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.” After this, He was buried in a tomb. On the third day, He bodily resurrected from the grave and was seen alive by over 500 people at once and also the disciples and the apostles. Hard for you to believe in the resurrection? Well, these disciples and apostles, like Paul, went on to preach this Gospel, were severely persecuted, and suffered horrific deaths for their faith. Would they suffer trials and death for a lie? How do you accept this free gift of salvation and forgiveness of all your sins so that you can be promised everlasting life? Jesus answers this in John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever BELIEVETH in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” When Jesus spoke to Martha, He said: “ . . I am the resurrection, and the life: he that BELIEVETH in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: And whosoever liveth and BELIEVETH in me shall NEVER DIE. Believest thou this?” (John 11:25-26). Do you notice a common theme here? To be saved, all you must do is believe the Gospel, that the Lord Jesus Christ died for all your sins past, present, and future, was buried, and rose from death on the third day, and trust in that alone for your salvation believing that you can never lose your salvation because Jesus paid it all. The instant you do that, God seals you with the Holy Spirit of Promise and promises you everlasting life. Therefore, since salvation does not depend on your own behaviour or works or commitment to God or maintaining your faith, but depends solely on Jesus’ finished payment for your sin on the cross and defeat of death when He rose from it, you can be 100% sure that you will go to Heaven. 1 John 5:13 says “These things have I written unto you that BELIEVE on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may BELIEVE on the name of the Son of God.” I pray that today is the day of your salvation. Jesus loves you, and I love you too. The book of John and Romans are great places to start in the Bible. God bless you. Here are some additional verses: Acts 16:30-31 “And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved? And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.” John 6:28-29 “Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God? Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.” John 6:40 “And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.” John 5:24 “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.” Titus 3:5 “Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;”
