    As a long time fan, the Teens were the nadir of Flyers hockey so I'm obviously salty about Giroux worship. No doubt Jake's numbers put him in Flyers Hall of Fame but I do think he was a shite leader who had thin skin. His social media blocking was a window into his psyche as a player. A fun guy in the locker room (particularly for the media) but a travesty as a team leader.

    Gagne and Vorachek are my choices. Brier for his playoff performances should also be considered. Giroux will get in once he’s done playing and that’s appropriate.

    I agree with Russ and the black jersey. It was just following what everyone else was doing. Also, the gold 50th anniversary was bad.

    80s/90s jerseys were the best. Best combination of Oranage, white, and black. It was a mistake to get rid of the oranage jersey and make the black the main jersey. The black should only be used for a third. The 2008-2023 jerseys were fine with the exception of the bright orange used. Hot take but I have always hated the 2012 Winter Classic jersey. I hated the fake retro-ness of it. I also hated that it used a generic template that the Flyers have never used before. I also hate the laces around the collar, again something the Flyers have never done. The current jerseys are frustrating. They are so close to the 90s but not there yet. With the missing piping around the shoulders it just looks wrong. It looks like a chinese knockoff. Also the contrasting name plates has gotten old. Just have regular name plates. The metallic P jerseys of the early 2000s were weird but I appreciate the creativity. The 2019 staduim series were kinda wack. I like the current black jersey mainly because it uses orange in a cool way. I also liked last year's white stadium series jeresey. The worst Flyers jersey will always be the 50th anniversery with the gold. Absolute worst. Regarding the reverse retro I wish they did the oposite, have a black jersey with the orange shoulder yokes. That would be one of the best jerseys.

    The Legion of Doom Era jerseys are the best jerseys ever made. The orange, white, and the black one too. Clean, simple, efficient. The worst by far are the 2007-2010 Reebok Edge 1.0 black jersey and white jersey. What was management thinking when they approved those? The current alternative black jersey has to go. The fact that other teams around the league use the same design cheapens it. Lastly, the Fanatics authentic jerseys will be decent Unfortunately, they will be in the upper $300 range. The non authentic cheaper ones will likely be bad. Also nice collection Rachel.

    Right off the bat, Russ finds a reason to rant about Tortorella and criticize Hathaway. I get that he's not a Flyers fan, but, presumably, the viewers on this podcast are fans. Negative, negative, negative. Credit to Rachel for trying to maintain the positive and stating that she has a positive view of Hathaway's role and doesn't find the extension to be the Tortorella contrived horror that Russ does.

    Worrying about 4th liners is like worrying about backup catchers in baseball. As for JJ he’s a solid hockey announcer. I think he and someone like Kenny Albert suffer in terms of fan appreciation from having classic “announcer voices” as opposed to distinctive hockey announcers like Mike Emrick, the late Gene Hart (for us old timers) and the late Dan Kelly who were great at hockey without sounding like they were trained at Syracuse to sound like everyone else.

    Come on JJ. Playoffs? I know he wants to be positive because he has to broadcast almost every game but he needs to ease back on the throttle. In addition to a few teams in the conference like Jersey most likely being better the goaltending on this team is suspect at best especially over 82 games given what we saw the last half of the season. Sam is probably at best an average NHL goalie and Fedotov is a complete unknown.

  • @josephdeangelis4081
    @josephdeangelis40815 күн бұрын

    Playoffs? We are talking playoffs for this season? That would be the worst thing for this franchise! It would be purgatory and keep this team in mediocrity for years to come. Picking 16th, 23rd and 27th in a top heavy draft is NOT going to move the needle in this rebuild! Briere has to move out some veteran players by the deadline and get this team picking in the top 5, otherwise, they have no chance to build a true contender here. We have clearly seen that teams in the top 10 are not trading out of the top 10, especially in a deep draft like this one. Briere is naive if he thinks he can rebuild this team with good, but not great players. The further away you pick from the top 5, the more the chances drop that they will draft an elite talent.

    Given what the price was to bring Drysdale in, he will forever be linked to Gauthier and whatever his production turns out to be. Yes, it’s an obvious comment, I know. I hope he turns into an exceptional defenseman, but more importantly he stays healthy.

    Thanks, Russ and Rachel. Good post as usual. I see both points being made about Johnson. For me, it's a big season. Do we play for now or later. We still don't know what the kids can do. Sure, it was just a scrimmage during the past few days, but there is some hope in my eyes. It's just the player development that I'm worried about. As previously mentioned, management and coaching need to be on the same page. I don't see it happening. It's either fear or "respect" that seems to be driving the team's direction. Some hard choices will have to be made this season and next. Otherwise, we are just chasing our tails and pointing fingers. Yes, they need direction and discipline. However, they need opportunities and the ability to fail why they become better players in the long run. Enjoy your weekend, everyone.

    Some hockey gossip has the team interested in Krebs. What about Shayne Wright? If TK forces a trade, then Wright might be a viable trade option with Seattle. It frees up some contract space and puts him in another conference. However, I do not know what else thar Seattle would want in addition to TK.

    They lack a true 1st line center. Coots the best at face-offs & defensive responsibility but very little offense. Frost has offensive creativity to pass, but rarely shoots himself. Coach has a seat ready for him in the doghouse, for some reason. I say he'll be the first player to get benched this year. Cates is a supporting role 'depth center'. Not enough offense to keep in the top 6, not enough defense to keep in the top 6. Just there, & you hardly ever heard the TV announcers mention his name - he plays like he's invsible. Poehling has surprising speed & good hands, should be kept as the #3 or #4. Laughton is the ultimate 'team good guy'. Responsible on defense, shows leadership on & off the ice, but that's about it. Doesn't score, not know for speed, not known for winning face-offs. Never should have a 1st line position, he's a nice guy to have around for the 4th line, but not for a team that already has filled that spot 4 times.

I am a little concerned about Bjarnason's play, however. He wasn't square to the puck on many occasions, and liked to favor his left leg/pad. Where do you see Bjarnason fitting in, if at all? Since, Sammy was let go our goal tending is kind of thin. Plus, if either of the Russian goalie jet, no pun intended, yikes.
