11k for a solidly restored classic Spyder is not bad at all. I suspect any similar car purchased for less would wind up needing at least some of the work you did.

Great job, but sad to see that you did not respect the 2 seams in the rocker panel. The only cars that don't show them are usually full of bondo and indicate a poor repair job. If at all possible before final paint to put some groves in there it will look right.

Is this car worth the money PLUS THE WORK? Defenitly not. But: Those Alfa Spiders are Design Icons. They will be much more expensive in the future. Its one of the few convertibles that looks good with closed soft top.

I would SO love to see someone with the means to re-make a classic Alfa using a composite structure body. Exactly like the original, just not prone to rusting away...and lighter to boot. If I had the means...I would do exactly that.

@jimlewis67436 ай бұрын
Wait. Did I miss something in a previous video? You're lapping the valves, but what about the condition of the valve guides? They are definitely an important wearing part. You need to place the valves in and give them a wiggle. The guides, and for that matter, the seats, are replaceable parts in the Alfa motor. The seats can be ground. In lesser cars, the guides are checked and, if necessary, knurled and reamed to the proper clearance. In better cars, like the Alfa, the guides are replaced and reamed to the proper fit. This should be checked prior to any finish lapping.

Every car, made by Pininfarina: they all hide more rust, than you can see or expect, even if they look great. This spider isn`t the worst car. pininfarina build the Peugeot 504 Coupe and Cabriolet. My father bought one new in 1979. In 1983, this car had so much rust really everywere, it couldn`t be saved at reasonable price.

My all time favorite car. Owned a 1976 Alpha Romeo Spider (Milano?) I remember calling it that in the day.. not sure if a Milano exists. It was cherry red with gold wheels... bought for 500.00 from a Florida used car lot. They neglected to tell me that the radiator hose was busted... and I was an idiot 20 something and didn't take it straight to a mechanic to have it checked out. I drove it back and forth to a bar I was bouncing at in Boca Raton. 'One for the Road'. Since my commute was only about 2 miles, overheating was never a possibility... until I drove it to West Palm Beach with my girlfriend. Ended up warping the head.. (aluminum) had it towed back to Boca then traded it for another car. Now 30 years later... I MISS THAT CAR! Only drove it for a couple of weeks. Found one when I moved back to OK years ago but was missing too many parts to make it a sound investment. Still my favorite after all this time. Such a wonderful feeling driving it. Still on my bucket list to get another one. You did a great job on the restoration... I'm not much into cars but I would certainly give a project like this a go. Congrats.
