43 minutes ago You can see the advantage of using HVLP and being able to dial down the fluid to give the mist coat. 👌
Will do 🤟
Great review. Do you think it would go over oil based gloss and bond ok on external widows and sills?
You need to get out more
What would these be like through airless? Not sure I’d be keen on the over spray from this product, Stick to hvlp for this type of thing?
these type pof paints aren't for airless, its HVLP turbine/compressor set ups
Who has time for watching that stuff ! 🤦♂️🤣
Good evening Phil love the videos Next week going to paint some wooden sash windows what is the best white gloss paint to use cheers Phil
Hi. Tnx.... water based or OIL based?
@ProfessionalPainterDecorator good morning Phil oil based please thank you simon
@@user-tu7nj8em5j shame. Outside, Sikkens XD
LOOK FORWARD TO A SCRATCH TEST,
Who made your wig mate Arrow worthy ?
Here in the netherlands we use waterthin acrylic primer(deep primer) and saturate the surface with it and after drying apply wallpaper or paint.
Hi Phil I watch loads of your videos and tried to do a bit of painting myself but I’ve messed up big time and need some help. I had my living room plastered I gave it a mist coat had to sand down in a few places but done it too hard went back to plaster instead of spotting it with paint I used Zinsser guards like an idiot, it’s messed it all up flashing through the paint around the spots are building up and looks terrible and don’t have a clue what to do. Would I be able to get any advice from you please
Give it another light sand over. What emulsion did you use?
@@ProfessionalPainterDecorator I used Leyland super white emulsion. Do you think light sand over and a couple of top coats will stop the flashing?
@@ProfessionalPainterDecoratorI was told to paint all the walls with bin and put 2 top coats on. I’ve sanded it down now was a lot and is a big room so dust everywhere. I know you know your stuff mate so would like to know what you think
@@Michael-wc1co you've painted over the emulsion with Zinsser BIN (in the RED can)?? who told you to do that? Id of tried another coat of emulsion to start with, then re assesses the situation.
@@ProfessionalPainterDecorator yeah red can zinsser told me to I don’t trust what there saying. I’ve sanded the area’s going to give it another coat tomorrow. If that doesn’t work what would you suggest. It’s a 8m length room 3 meters wide, the spot priming with the guards is all over the ceilings and walls.
Would this spray Metalshield ok?
That's oil based. I wouldn't try it
You bring de painter back if you pay him again. Otherwise you can fight with dulux
Great Video. Can you send me a link to the Rota Premier Rota Finish Refill Sleeve Please. I have the Rota Gold but cant find the Rota Premier Rota Finish Refill Sleeve to finish off the walls. Or Recommend another Good Roller Sleeve for Finishing off coat. Regards. Mark
Paint warrior’s brushes, especially the angled brush, is the best paint brush I’ve ever used !! Perfect crisp lines, perfect paint pick up & easy to wash out. I found the Rembrandt bristles harden over repeated uses, even after thorough washing. Everyone should try the Paint Warrior, simply the best 👍
Thanks for sharing!! How did you find the Arroworthy Classic?
Thanks Phil. Just bought a cordless Wagner Finish control 4000. Never used a sprayer before. Have you tried Wagner sprayers before?
Not yet, it would be good if i got one to try out for a day though :)
Serious question. Aqua satin is top,top stuff. Am actually thinking its better than ScuffX which i believe has gone off now its become popular.....?
personal prefference, try both and go for the one you like :) both very good
@ProfessionalPainterDecorator oh I know, what am saying is maybe Aqua has the edge.
@@jonfeneley2323 give it a try ;)
Thankyou through your review i purchased one and i am very impressed with the sprayer, for a one handed disabled person it was easy to use and setup thankyou
Keep up with the videos Phil, they've been helping me out a lot
tnx. Monday's and Thursday's.. and the odd video inbetween if i feel the need :)
Multisolve is a must when tooling up CT1.
I know, so many have never heard of it as it's never NEXT TO CT1 when you buy it.
Phil, narrowed my choice of emulsion for my walls. Painting over Vinyl wall paper and will use a primer. My choices are Dulux Heritage Velvet Matt and Johnstones Durable Acrylic. Any advice which one to use. Price is similar. John
Dulux Vwlet matt, very good. another to look at brewers Albany durable matt.
@@ProfessionalPainterDecorator Thanks Phil, You have been very helpful and responsive. The only problem is you have me hooked on decorating videos - who would have thought. Will go with the heritage as we don’t have a Brewers near us. John
it's really nice to apply, test it on an area of your wall first, it may go straight on without the need to ease it down with water.. try it first though. The more vids of mine you watch.. the closer you get me to that classic 911 ;) lol
Phil, having thought I had reached the end of the endless selection process I find myself all of a tizzy again. When I went to the Dulux Decorator centre they are trying to push me away from Heritage towards Diamond Matt. I know there isn’t any love for Dulux on your feed but have you ever tested this? Also now thinking of using Frenchic, Dazzling White, on the doors. Again any views? John
Them pads look handy. I’ve got some right fiddly sanding to do on some kitchen units (F&B or Little Greene. Haven’t decided yet) and an old wood table (varnished, but is getting oiled) that has bits where even the Rolex won’t fit. Look just the job.
tnx, sanding pads.. look in my Amazon store associate link
Thanks mate. Really helpful instructions.thanks
You're very welcome!
As a DIY'er with a lot to do, I'm looking to get one of the Quickshot Ultras in the next week having watched your videos, to paint all trim (sorry know you hate the word but it's so handy) as well as staircase spindles and doors. I wanted to use Scuff X but all my woodwork is Ral 9001 which I cant get mixed. The only paint I can find that I can spray and get mixed to Ral9001 is Johnston's Aqua Guard, but you don't like painting with that because of runs. Have you tried spraying with it? There are no videos spraying Aqua guard and the paint shed for some reason recommend not spraying it. What are your thoughts? Are you able to give it a test and see what you think? Thanks for the videos.
What colour is RAL9001? How about mixing it up in Bedec MSP or Zinsser ALLCOAT exterior?
@@ProfessionalPainterDecorator I'll look at those thanks :) Ral 9001 is typically called country cream and quite a light off white. Its often what door and window manufacturers provide as an alternative to white. I've just discovered that the Isomat you've used in this video can actually mix to RAL9001. Which do you find the most hardwearing for interior woodwork? Aqua Guard or Isomat Aqua? I think the Isomat Aqua can be used interior and exterior which makes spraying windows easier.
Sorry to butt in here but have you considered spraying tikurilla everall aqua in your chosen RAL colour? It's an absolute breeze to spray and flows out lovely, has a built in enamel aswell so after about a week or so it goes off nice and tough. Word of warning though, don't use it for handrails, it emulsifies like crazy!
@@AspireDecorating Not butting in, grateful for all guidance. Hadn't considered Tikurilla, don't know why, though your word of warning is relevant as the staircase has the handrail, so sounds like that might not be the best option. Maybe I should get a small can of a few and try them out. Just spent so many weeks on prep, really don't want to screw it up ;)
hands down for me then, Isomat. Use the Isomat allPrimer as the Uc. County Cream is a Dulux colour.. so if Ral 9001 matches that, go with the isomat.
I have always painted kitchens with brushes, but took your advice & used a roller, the paint conditioner, I used Floetrol, it rollered & dried very well, just a very slight orange peel effect, but a good finish & better than a brush. I agree Phil, I used the correct F&B primer, but took three top coats for a flawless coverage. The paint conditioner definitely helped, but I did note on the tin, it said do not use Paint conditioners, possibly for this reason. Glad you’ve brought this matter up , most of my decorator pals don’t like using F&B. Thanks Phil !
Glad you tried it. What rollers? Adding a conditioner shouldn't make any difference to the paint.
@@ProfessionalPainterDecorator Yes, I agree, shouldn’t make any difference to the paint coverage. I used Arroworthy microfibre medium pile and their short pile for the final coat.
Phil, how would you compare Bedec MSP to this paint and those Eurpoean paints you commented knock spots off the UK paints?
Unfortunately you can't buy CIN paint in the UK... :(
Depends what your doing. Caparol PU Gloss, is the nearest I've come across to what Sikkens Satura BL satin (the water based paint, you can no longer get hold of). As the puGloss is only 65% sheen level it's more like a good satin finish... Beautiful. As it's
@@ProfessionalPainterDecorator Yes but just out of interest I was wondering what your opinion was on how Bedec MSP compares to those Eurpoean paints you've tested. I think Bedec MSP is one of the best multi purpose paints I've used in the UK, but do you think even the MSP is a poor comparison to the European paints? Thanks
Thing is MSP is a genral good all rounder paint.. goe son anything, applys well and is just coat up out the tin. Isomat Isolac, awesome paint, use the all Primer as UC then two top coats.... I can't really compare it to MSP.
@@ProfessionalPainterDecorator Just looking at both, the Isomat Isolac looks like a specialist paint for wood and the MSP a jack of all trades for multiple materials so I imagine the 2 would be very difficult to compare. Thanks for taking the time to answer my questions though. There's a lot of cr#p on KZread but I absolutely love your channel, your content is really informative. I'll make sure to click through your affiliate links to ensure you keep cranking out the vids :)
Nice one, Phil. That Quickshot looks a dream to use. Wish it had been around when I bought the Ultra which has been both unreliable and cumbersome. Have you got a preference for a particular water-based undercoat? My system (for bare wood/mdf) was BIN>123>Scuff X, but switched to BM's Fresh Start for the undercoat as found it covered better than 123.
Bare MDF.... You don't really need BIN, it's not a problem surface. Just give it a bit old up of water based primer and UC. Sand between and fill up and other coat, Look at Isomat All Primer. Bedec All Prime. Hanford and Green all purpose primer. Loads will do I see no need to use BIN
@@ProfessionalPainterDecorator The majority of the MDF is usually routed Phil, so tons of exposed fibres everywhere. I've found BIN the best primer for not raising the fibres. It's really the undercoat, and finding the best one for opacity (some undercoats don't like going over BIN in one go I've found). Fresh Start is decent but maybe a bit pricey. If you had a ready-primed surface and was going to use a water-based UC to achieve a blanket white base for white topcoats, would you still just use an all primer for this coat?
I get ya. Cut edges r a pain. MR MDF is better. But you can use just about anything and work at edges to get them nice.. without the need for fine surface fillers in most cases.
How it does to do ceilings?
It doesn't hold much paint. It's more for woodwork really as your emulsion would need thinning a lot. The other unit I tested would be better. As it's a bit more powerful.
Not sure if you add them later Phil but quite a few times you say see the videos up there but none are listed
I know. Sometimes they don't always show up for some people. I'll check though for you.
If it helps: 0:55 2:11 3:30
just checked, there's 5 links that should be there
Legend keep up the videos helping me a lot thanks
Happy to help and glad Ive help you.
An apprenticeships now 4 years, the 3rd and 4th basically teach redundant skills that are of little or no value anymore. Paints now mixed, glazing and feathering are things of the past etc. If you've not learnt how to decorate in 2 years then your a retard and maybe should look at a different trade. Would've been good to hear more from your Dad and his memories rather than you ranting about the youth of today. I'll bet your a right bundle of laughs to work around.
there's ytwo more videos, hav eyou not seen those yet, you may learn a bit more :)
Good to see an ultra quickshot video. Phill would you say 5% thining of the top coat and ease bit more to get it spraying a nice fan pattern at 5. I’ve just recently used the isolac with the same primer on frames, used the 210 then dropped on to a 208 for the finish coats and like Phil says the finish i feel is excellent.
Yes and yes. Temperature of the paint can effect it... Have you bought a slow cooker yet?
I have got an old one, could use.👌
Hi Phil, can you spray MacPherson, Johnson's, Dulux emulsions? What are the best paint brands for spraying.
Ceilings or Walls?
Both, I don't have a lot of experience spraying, I would like to say thanks for your time and effort you put in your videos. I did think you could spray most brands of emulsions, maybe I was wrong
@@mcvin8077 everything will spray, BUT, some paint will spray a lot easier than others. I've videos on ceiling paints that all spray well. Walls, you try it and if it needs some thinning you you add some water to help get a nice evn spray. Getting the correct spray tip for what you spray, also will be key. Watch a few more of my airless spray videos. What paint have you bought?
I've not bought any paint yet, I was just curious, I thought Phil would be the ask. Your videos have been great, taught me a lot about spraying, keep up the good work. Nick, Edinburgh
Hi Phil how does it compare to the hvlp unit obviously a different system but would you say you don’t need the q 5
You need them all. Future videos.. I think they're out later this in August and September tto. I'm using the QT5 on alcove cabinets and woodwork. As it has more control for fan pattern and paint flow while doing it.
I was about to ask the same question. I like the slower pace you can take with an HVLP but the noise does my head in 🙈
Use a remote socket on an extension lead and put your turbine outside or in another room if you can. Plus you’re not sucking the overspray through your filters👍
@@laughingboyblue3201 I use a remote socket 😊
Do you wait for the next day with the isomat primer when spraying before topcoat? It’s 24 hours before a top coat isn’t it and the satin 4 hours before recoat. It’s one product I haven’t spayed yet only brush and rolled, will be spraying it on an extension soon.
I did the UC the previously day. And for next two coated the next day with satin. It dries quick so it's not like physically brushing the surface with the paint where it may still pull on you.
@@ProfessionalPainterDecorator yeah I wasn’t sure what would happen painting before they recommended? As long as it was dry…. As u say spraying isn’t like it’s going to pull.
Have you got a link to the cutting in brushes please phil??
Which ones?
Hi Phil, I Have to paint an artex ceiling that the previous owners painted with Dulux Vinyl SILK! Obviously it can't be sanded, so a coat of Zinsser 123 first? What is the normal finish for coving and ceilings?
You wouldn't have a problem going over with Matt paint. It's how we've done it for years.
Thanks Phil. I asked because I thought painting matt over silk leads to cracking and crazing. Is that not the case?
@@user-bw3kd9xo1o not all the time.
@@user-bw3kd9xo1o have a look ok at some of the ceiling paints I've tried. Either would work well
Can you wrap this paper around a window reveal or do you have to cut it off at the edge and paste in a separate strip ?
I'd cut it neat the the edges. Make sure you brush over the cut edges with the adhesive to make a seal
Question if you had a window inset does the bend around on a corner or is it better to cut it instead of trying to wrap this around ... just thinking before i install it thanks again stu
cut to the edge and make sure you apply extra damp stop adhesive to the cut edges/over the face, before putting the fibre lining over the top.. using the same adhesive.
@@ProfessionalPainterDecorator thank you
very interesting to see the difference between Frenchic and Zinsser considering they're both manufactured by Rust-Oleum (and now owned or part owned by Rust-Oleum). I can also say that Frenchic Alfresco didn't pass the scratch test on my plastic plant pots, it definitely needed a primer first so not completely self priming on all materials. I bought some Bedec MSP and that really has done the job, very impressed with it.
Great tips thanks. Including throwing away the roller. Hard enough washing brushes after oil based, I never have cleaned a roller after oil based but I imagine the cost in time and thinners is more than just buying a new roller.
Hi phil, where did you get the prop for the laser mate
I'm using an old long extension pole with a flat sanding plate on the end. But I do have better ones on my Amazon storefront... www.amazon.co.uk/shop/philbeckwiththeprofessionalpainterdecorator/list/1W3J7ERGBJMSC
