    If at 35:27 the perception is "very accurate" how come that in states where the US has no such influence the governing bodies are formed by the most intolerant dictatorships e. g. Russia, China, North Corea and Iran?

    I dont know at what time this comment will ever be read by those that are just discovering this lecture by Chomsky but just a reminder that this time around 2024, innocent Palestinians are being killed. Its been 7 months to the war. And i hope people learn more from what this man has to say and allow liberation to form in people's heart because this war needs the truth and facts to win.

If they continue it will be the end of Israel. I hate to say it and I have always supported Israel but weak ass war killings with easy destruction humanitarian assistance is unacceptable. I know it’s upper assholes who get the soldiers fired up from the old days. Get real ! Wake up people ! Zio must’s control all US politicians and MIC Hard to say as a proud American but it’s the truth. It’s almost like self destruction of Israel. I suspect the power that be in this time has a reason. The 3 administrators said they were hurt by the judgement and their defence after the judgement for all of Jamie's abuse was and I quote " ADMINISTRATORS ARE SYMPATHETIC TO THOSE WHO GET BULLIED IN SCHOOL, FOR THE MOST PART THAT THIS IS BEHAVIOUR THAT ADMINISTRATORS CAN NEITHER PREVENT NOR CONTROL. I can say had that been in any other countries court, they would be spending 10 to 15 years in jail and banned from ever teaching again. Based on the lawsuit, Mary Podlesny got 1 week suspension without pay, Tom Blauert got 2 weeks without pay and William Davis got a verbal warning. Which is absolutely pathetic. They should have gone to jail.

    Is there an opportunity to put an interpretation correction? For example, see 7 min and 33 secs, the presenter said "I could lecture a lot on Deaf culture all day and night until I become an old man" but the interpreter said "But I am an old man and this wont be easy thing to do" Ouch! Accountability is important and hopefully someone can do the "interpretation correction" on this. It is so important to understand we, deaf people, have to deal with in our world utilizing sign language interpreters.

    Umkhonto we Sizwe, the paramilitary arm of the ANC, killed 67 civilians in all of its years of operation, usually targeting critical military infrastructure. They also advocated for a secular democratic government and an egalitarian society. Hamas, since it took power in the Gaza Strip, has fired thousands of rockets indiscriminately into civilian areas, and regularly commits terrorist attacks against civilians in Israel. Hamas also advocates for a fundamentalists Islamic government with sharia law, and the genocide and ethnic cleansing of the Jews from the Jordan to the Mediterranean.

    I first learned about Bill Strickland from my pottery professor in college, Frank Ross, the man Strickland says saved his life. At one time, my ex did a lot of picture framing for him --I think mostly for the Manchester Craftsmen's Guild building. Bill is one of my own personal heroes. He has the heart and perseverance to imagine something and carry it through. Then when an opportunity pops up (like John Heinz's offer) he runs with it and makes it into a culinary school, his school's lunch program, and even a catering service to make money to run school programs. He's even won Grammies for jazz recorded in the school's studios and several musicians have donated all proceeds from their recordings to Manchester/Bidwell. It's almost as if such a man could not be real in this day and age. But he is and I am proud to have met him on several occasions.

    It appears that the pursuit of peace by the silent majority is being overshadowed by a divisive, conflict-oriented mindset. Unfortunately, Noam Chomsky tends to focus one-sidedly on blaming Israel rather than seeking peaceful resolutions to a complex situation brimming with intense hatred and fear. For years his rhetoric points the finger at Israel as well as the United States where he sits in his ivory tower watching needless death and destruction when the Middle East should be a mecca of ancient diverse cultures, arts, science, and cuisines with everyone living and thriving together. Unfortunately, many people embrace Noam’s words believing he’s an intellectual based on his encyclopedia-like mind, brandishing facts, figures, and buzzwords that can paint any group as monsters. Most unfortunately, Noam is Jewish, granting extra credence to anti-Israeli sentiments: “You see, even this Jewish scholar is saying Israel is totally at fault.” Martin Luther King, Mahatma Gandhi, Albert Einstein were intellectuals; capable of keeping an open mind with empathy for all viewpoints. Noam does not exhibit these attributes. The cultural historian Sander Gilman has written, “One of the most recent forms of Jewish self-hatred is the virulent opposition to the existence of the State of Israel.” Perhaps Noam is a self-hating Jew. I believe Chomsky doesn’t want peace in the region. I believe he prefers chaos.

    Re: "rather than seeking peaceful resolutions" Sorry, but Chomsky supports the Geneva accords and whatever solution the Palestinians agree to. Perhaps you're unaware of US rejectionism and Israel's historic worry about the PLO's "peace offensive". US/Israel solution is expansion - that's not peaceful.

  • @harris287
    @harris2874 ай бұрын

    Chomsky supports the Geneva accords? That's just wonderful. It means absolutely nothing because he's not addressing the primary issue - hatred and fear. Hamas is chanting "from the river to the sea." And the Jews in Israel chant "never again". Those two chants are incompatible to a one state or two state solution. Instead it's I'll kill you before you kill me. And that's exactly what is happening right now.

  • @gerrydonohoe
    @gerrydonohoe4 ай бұрын

    @@harris287 Re: "It means absolutely nothing" - So your original false attack on Chomsky can be dismissed, because you move the goalposts and claim "The Primary issue" is about the worldwide "Palestine will be free", deflecting the issue of a brutal occupation, as all pro-Israel tactics do. The actual ethnic cleansing is being done by Israel, the expanded settlements are from Israel, the fault is with Israel for causing hatred. Israel occupies the west bank, and controls Gaza, and you claim the "Primary Issue" is that this chant must stop? Then we have peace, is that your position?

  • @supertrollfaxnoprinter3329

    I doubt it was an oversight. The UK has lost significant power and influence over world affairs. It’s clinging on and pretending as if it’s still this formidable colonial powerhouse, but it’s increasingly seen as a laughing stock or younger sibling to the real countries in charge now.

    While Chomsky has a big name in science, he is absolutely a "useful idiot" in his assessments on many political and social issues. His statements are contradictory (statements of crimes and laws VS "world run by force" view) and conspirological (world is run by the oil lobby), his data is naive (in his appeal to democracy in regards to Arab countries who are mainly non-democratic) and one-sided (healthcare question). His predictions are proven false ("Hamas won't be able to do anything because they are under such a brutal pressure from Israel military") but we owe to him and others like him that we now have a population of brainwashed by left propaganda students.

    Re: Contradictory, you didn't explain why it's a contradiction. There is international law, the US is officially outside of it. That's your contradiction. US claims it wants a "rules based" system, which has nothing to do with international law, it's about US rules i.e. investor rights over all human rights. Re: "world is run by the oil lobby" - Chomsky never said this. In the context of the middle east, the oil lobby has tremendous sway. Anyone who plays down the energy corporations isn't paying attention. Re: Appeal to democracy - yes, his responsibility is to the US and Israel (being a client state) - the Arab world is not his responsibility. It's elementary morality - pay attention to your own crimes first. The US has been beating back democracy since the 1970s. You can simply look at opinion polls and compare them to policy - completely different. Re: "Predictions" - His predictions are correct, Hamas can't do anything. They can lash out and kill 1200 Israelis, and as usual, Israel hits back with at least a 20:1 civilian kill ratio. No one can do anything as long as the US blocks peace processes.
