cheyenne cassidy

Welcome to my corner of the internet! 😈
I make videos about how society is shaped by the technologies it creates. I'm mostly obsessed with how television, social media and now artificial intelligence are used to control the masses. These are technologies that have only existed within the constructs of capitalism and so are inherently dependent on extracting value from its audience, aka us. I think that's messed up. So I created this channel to share what I learn every month about the new ways that we're being exploited. 🙃
I did an undergrad in communication studies so I regularly reference communication theorists or cultural studies in my videos to unpack the economic incentives of these technologies. If you're new here, you should start with my Keep Comm and Carry On series.
I hope that by watching my channel you'll become literate in media and artificial intelligence and will want to advocate for creating technologies that are less shitty.

    Very thorough video! You did a lot of great research work to put this all together Cheyenne! My story/situation might be different than others. I am 46 years old and am employed (not in communications), and I'm trying to re-invent myself, create new skills, and expand my work experience. I believe this is probably the field I should have went into after I got out of college but I didn't. Is there still hope? Do you have any advice/tips for me?

    If you are presenting information, it's your platform to be informative. Your audience could be new to your subject and no question is a dumb question.

    Communications is a useless women's degree. Marketing pretty much useless too. Not surprising you didnt know the difference til you worked. Men usually get useful degrees. What a waste of time.

    Can we have a clarification that Gutenberg didn't invent the press, he just standardized things into the system that was then used by everyone else? It's a small detail but everyone always gets it wrong... love the vid!

    what a relevant intro - the media is everywhere and is everything around us, so it is a more than useful degree. I have a module within my english degree and it is all about media linguistics, super interesting. I wish you the best in your studies :)

    I'm debating on going back for my MBA. I just don’t know if I want to take strategic communications, integrated marketing communications, or get a certificate in digital marketing.

  • @itscheyennecassidy
    @itscheyennecassidy8 күн бұрын

    Realistically these hyper segmented degrees and certificates are just a way for schools to enroll more students. No one in the workforce really knows the difference between such granular degrees My advice is that if you want to move up the corporate ladder and work in business do the MBA. If you only want to work in marketing and never go passed a director/vp level do the digital marketing certificate. Most importantly get a marketing job asap because the field is always changing and school will never cover everything fully. Best of luck!!

    Very well done, Cheyenne! Are you a "media studies" case study? Are your videos sort of media text? What is not "media studies" if we assume that all we communicate is mediated via a "medium"? Thank you!

    There is one defintion of racism. The RIGHT definition and it won't be altered for current generations of soft pansies like you. Power has nothing to do with racism. A homeless person can be racist to the leader of the country they live in. It is a core problem.
