Great video. I plan this hike for sept 24. how busy is the trail? There weren’t many people on your video.how much time did you need?
@jacaulkАй бұрын
connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/12054629656?share_unique_id=9 I started near sunrise, not busy at all. Just a few other hikers to Lake Solitude. Cascade Canyon as you get closer to Jenny Lake got more crowded, but not bad. Mostly very friendly people. Took me 9 hours. Have fun!

What happened on that moose encounter? 14:37
@jacaulk4 ай бұрын
Good question. There were quite a few hikers waiting on the other side of the moose pair and me and 2 others on my side. Everyone was just waiting for them to move along, then one dude got impatient and started hiking towards them (and me). Obviously this was too close for the moose's liking, so they came at him. My survival instincts kicked in and I ran behind a big tree asap. The bull moose passed quickly and uneventfully, but had all the hikers on alert!

Great video and good content as my fiancé and myself are going to be there this summer! As far as leaving camp each day, were you ever worried about anyone messing with your gear that was left? Camp sites are first come first serve as well correct?
@jacaulk Жыл бұрын
Yes everything is first come first serve. You'll be camped far enough away that only like-minded backpackers are around at camp. I was never worried about people messing with our tents. I did have a porcupine come into the vestibule of my tent to chew up the sweaty handle of my hiking stick, which scared the crap out of me in the middle of the night.

How sad- mile upon mile of reddish-brown, beetle-killed forest. The San Juans used to be emerald green in every direction. Now you're lucky to see a single hillside that's not devastated, and waiting fo the firs lightning strike or idiotic camper to ignite it into an inferno. And don't take heart by saying it's natural. It's not. The beetles can now breed twice in three times in one year to the warming of the climate, which is ENTIRELY human caused. Breaks my heart to watch these videos.

I got lost going to Grey peak Pass, when I should have headed in the completely different direction going to Red Peak Pass. Once I finally made it to Red Peak pass, I hiked down to Upper and lower Ottoway Lakes. I learned a very stern lesson in the months that I worked in the Back Country of Yosemite.

Between Sunlight and Windom that first day, we wanted to do both but Sunlight took us longer than expected and it looked like rain, so we skipped the easier Windom. In hindsight we could have easily gotten both of them that day. Second day, we were crunched for time so picked the easier North Eolus over Eolus. Should have planned another day/night in the Basin so we weren't rushing. Was a beautiful location and a super fun time.

Hi Robbie, My pack is an old REI Flash 62 (so 62L). It was pretty full for this 6 day hike. We typically do 4/5 day trips. Or intention for this trip from Cirque to Titcomb was to stay higher, more off-trail, but the Winds kicked our asses. Intended to go past Pronghorn Peak, Lee Hall and Dennis Lake to get through the Alpine Lakes basin. But we had to make the responsible choice and head to the trail after Bonneville Lakes. The other guy was feeling beyond poor on Night Two. If you end up doing the higher route, let me know and I'll email you our day by day topo maps. Or if you want any more detail about logisitics and/or our route. [email protected]. Thanks, Adam
