Pair of Jacks

Welcome!

No dreams of KZread stardom here, lots of great content creators out there already! I would love to learn to make small edited videos as trip memories but gotta start somewhere, posting single shot clips for future edits is a start..Just too busy at living to figure it out, if I get a few minutes I take our dog for a well deserved walk.

For now, this seems like a good platform to allow family or friends to walk with me for a minute...I post things to share with family from trips and such. I also post videos about HVACR, for my son who is quickly advancing in the trade.

    That water sitting ON TOP of the valve is not getting the same heat as the bottom part of the valve where the seal is. All manufacturers tell you explicitly to remove the Schrader valves before brazing so I don't know where you heard they don't. They all tell you to wrap the valves in water soaked rags to prevent damaging the valve cores from the heat of the torch. And yes you need to flow nitrogen while brazing or you risk having flakes of gunk jamming up your TXV or orifice. And the last thing is clean your copper. You need the braze to flow into the cup not just capping the outside. The flame may clean the outside of the cup but not the inside of it causing a problem with flow into it. These 4 things are just good HVAC practices for a better problem free installation and take literally no time to accomplish.

  • @pairofjacks1006
    @pairofjacks1006Ай бұрын

    Great comments..all true.. but even though you and I believe best to remove the cores alot of units now actually come telling you not to.. check it out.. Certainly the water doesn't show the internal temperature but if it boils you took to long.. is the point. Read the video description.. the water is a check NOT a method.. nitrogen is great and if I have very long linesets with multiple fittings I'll use it for sure but if we only have a few joints and we are quick I stand behind skip the nitrogen. Yep. Thanks for helping me clear that all up.. video would be misleading to someone who didn't watch and listen to the whole thing

    The problem on wrenching on the aluminum threads is when they snap off, I have experience doing low temperature aluminum soldering, braising implies higher temperatures, just a dab of acid on the joint, when the joint starts the bubble with the lowest propane flame that you can think of!!!!!!!!! , then start pushing in the aluminum solder quick and easy, another issue is messing with factory threads now that's your liability and not theirs, the factory torqued them to their specs with a machine, the automotive industry has been using aluminum for decades, TXVs on cars are all aluminum bodies

  • @pairofjacks1006
    @pairofjacks100626 күн бұрын

    Thanks alot Robert, yep I have started practicing on the aluminum and it's not as hard as I remember...it's becoming a necessary repair and I can see repaiing leaks on coils which sadly are all aluminum now. Normally it's much easier to work with the wrench than the torch but these particular Rheem/ Ruud valves at least, are very over torqued.. just wanted to show you with a little care and finesse you can still do 9 out of 10 of these this way and save a lot of time and money. As far as liability lol... once we touch anything it's always ours till it's done. Thanks for the aluminum pep talk we all need it.

    Not an expert on that but have had it happen... if set to swr mode and no movement I figured something was broke so I sent for a new unit.. if in transmit mode there should definitely be deflection of some kind. Wish I could tell you more my unit was under warranty so I solved the issue by exchanging the unit. I figure there's something was wrong with the switch or I possibly have done something wrong and burn the crystal

    What about nitrogen flow?

  • @pairofjacks1006
    @pairofjacks1006Ай бұрын

    Getting me yelled at for this one 😅...Nitrogen flow.. if we are in military or space applications ok but otherwise in my opinion, nitrogen flow is a waste of time and money. A little oxidation dust will be solved in the first 60 seconds of run time. Thousands of systems installed, one compressor failure in warranty period, no nitrogen flow. The drier will handle this just fine, we have enough to do already✌️

    I was a little misleading... the water is just a visual indicator so you can know if you may have taken too long and damaged the valve seals..Always wrap the valves with wet cloth first, but even still the valve can get too hot, the water just let's you see for sure. Thanks for the comments and good luck out there.

    Phase monitor isn’t going to protect against over current on that non- internally protected motor. Those drives are a problem with the Yorks as they can’t be configured above 460 volts. Do a contactor with overload block and you’re good 👍 but if that unit is multi stage heat / cool that capability is lost. Different brand drive is best alternative . Not taking issue with the video , just alternatives.
