I love Seventies Hard Rock. The combination of a vintage Marshall amp, a couple of vintage Greenback speakers and a Les Paul guitar is quite a fascinating thing. However, there seems to be as many myths as there are players. Now it's my divine mission to bring clarity to this enormously important topic ;) I'll be doing a couple of demonstrations, shootouts and recording tutorials each week, so very welcome and please don't hesitate to give me feedback. Negative as well as positive.

Cheers! Johan

I bought a pair. The Mojotone BV-25 was a little spongy the first hours. After 12-14 hours they sounded great and better than my Celestion G12C. They are now for sale!

I ran my Marshall mosfet thru a Bugera PS1 Passive 100-watt Power Attenuator and for some reason it corrected everything wrong with the frequencies on the Marshall. It sounds very close to a JCM800 now.

And The Clean Sound, are all overdriven, all sounds greath, not my sound, like building a house, must have the Sructure, Try play the Clean Amps, then we can build the Distortion over it,

But glen fricker yelled at me and told me wood doesn't make a difference in sound. I think that not hearing it is a side effect of using a metal zone for too long.

Isn't the marshall cab 16 ohm and bassman 4 ohm? Wouldn't it be best to play 2x12 oxford and 4x12 marshall thru a jmp set for respective impedance??

Some "gestures" are universal language, and kids from any country just like to have fun, here and there, everywhere. We cannot blame young kids, they do just what they see. Other than some humor, I swear by the Demeter, I saw the full video and I was amazed. I've been hearing about Demeter amps for quite some years, and their great reputation is backed by some of the best guitar players. Thanks!

If you can afford NOS Mullard EL34 tubes why not? I have 6 new Mullard tubes, in case one fails, I have spares. They sound very good, and I run them slightly cool.

Tried the Mojotone BV, and Weber C1225. The Mojotone had loose bass, and okay highs. A bit bland in the mids. The Weber sounded dark, like an old blackback. Scooped. Kind of like a G12T but with highs that break up. The sound wasn't tight/ quick at all. Almost like sag. The cone paper semed thick. I like the post 2021 UK Greenbacks best for Marshalls. Tight, punchy, and cutting, but not harsh. Smooth mids with a vintage vibe.

There is a difference. The real issue is if a pickup is designed to be used with a cover or not. Then the difference is very slight.

The jcm 900 has always and will always sound better than the 800. Stock for stock, modded vs modded it wins every time. I’d own 9 more 900’s before I even though about getting and 800. Let the snobs miss out.

Power amp distortion on a class AB amp is a lot of odd order harmonics, somewhat ratty and snarly sounding. Preamp distortion is smoother, thicker, with even-order harmonics. My trick is to get just to where the power tubes start to clip hard, and add pre-amp gain to thicken the sound for just the right balance

Maybe it's because you only have two speakers for the Hiwatt, but I'm digging the Strat through it. Can't beat a LP through a Marshall either. Fun video.

I tried my Hiwatt DR103 though a single EMINENECE 6" beta PA speaker and it sounded very good. Can you get the Hiwatt sound through 6" speakers if they're high fidelity PA speakers? I plan on using 6 of them in a cabinet

I will get one of these used soon. I don't know if I should get the 15 or 30 version. Is the 30 too loud? I will just use it in a rehearsal room, no live situation XD I guess the 30 is not good for bedroom use either. Thanks for the demo, I have a telecaster and I know now for sure I will just love it haha cheers Johan, i love your demos

It sounds good, but needs more gain.. 😂. I have never heard of this amp, but I saw them on that tour and he played a white fur guitar that I thought was a PRS, but may have been a dean or custom guitar. On tour he did play a coulle Deans. A z or two type guitar and the white guitar with fur. ❤

Some really super amp demonstrations there Johan, thing is they all have something to offer. So it just goes to show you can never have enough amps. Actually this video would be a very good one to justify to the wife that you need another amp - "listen, dear! See how different they all sound, and you expect me to get by with just three amps?"
