The wording on the first question is unclear (I'm not blaming the content creator...this is on the people writing the SAT). The word "smallest" when referring to numbers, at least among mathematicians, refers to the number closest to zero, which is not necessarily the number that is furthest to the left on the number line. Honestly, I would have selected the other x-intercept on the problem you solved.

Only solution is x=0 and y=8. Put x=0 so y=8 in first equation and 2x8=16 since x=0. The only one solution is possible by just looking at equations.

Serious question: I've consistently gotten 700+ math in all the practice DSAT tests I've taken, but then plummeted to a low 600 on the actual March SAT. I'm hearing that the college board practice isn't as hard as the real SAT. Is that true? Which score can I rely on as an accurate diagnostic? I would really appreciate an answer :)

A little trick i learned while in class is the highest exponet in an equation tells you how many solutions there are so since it was x^2 it was two and when its cubed theres 3 and so on

you could also think about the last problem conceptually but it's more difficult. if you move "t" over to the left (2x^2 -4x - t = 0) you know t has to be negative to create a positive "c" value, since the graph opens upwards due to the positive "a" value; this would allow there to be no x-intercepts. out of answer choices "a" and "b," without doing any calculations "a" is a better choice because it's higher up and therefore less likely to dip below the x-intercept, which would give the quadratic solutions. thanks for the vid :)

The magic you’re looking for is in the work you’re avoiding My biggest mistake in SAT prep was taking the practice exams. I had no idea what I was doing, and simply had followed what was easy & my friends were doing. Practice makes perfect, right? Well, after taking practice exams for months, my score wasn’t making any progress. I was getting the same questions wrong over and over. The problem was that I only knew about HALF of what was tested on the SAT. I was getting those correct, but consistently missed the other half. After realizing there’s only 25 concepts tested and what I was missing, I was able to get laser focused on strengthening my weakness, and got a perfect score on my next SAT. If you’re scoring under 700, you shouldn’t be taking practice exams. All your time should be spent on learning the 25 concepts tested. Get the full list + concept summaries here : www.admissionhackers.com/25-concepts-list
